You suck” and “I hope Trump deports you!!!” The customer was identified in news reports as real estate agent Stephanie Lovins. But the headline claim that she lost her job because of the note is not established: Inman reported that Lovins had left Century 21 in January, before the incident.
What was written on the receipt?
On March 2, 2025, a server identified in reporting as Ricardo received a receipt after serving a customer at Cazuelas Mexican Cantina in Columbus. The receipt reportedly showed a zero tip and the handwritten remarks “Zero. You suck” and “I hope Trump deports you!!!” A restaurant employee later shared an image of it on social media, drawing public attention. The Independent reported the incident.
The receipt total is not included here because reports gave conflicting amounts: The Independent reported $87.84, while PerthNow reported around AUD$140. Those figures have not been reconciled.
Did the note cause the agent to lose her job?
That conclusion goes beyond what the available reporting establishes. Inman reported on March 5 that Lovins had departed Century 21 in January 2025, before the March 2 incident, and said the company gave no details about when or why she left. After the story became public, Century 21 confirmed she was no longer affiliated with the brand; that does not show the note caused her departure or that she was still affiliated when it was written.

Inman quoted a Century 21 spokesperson as saying: “We are aware of the situation with the agent in question. Hate has no place within the CENTURY 21 brand, and we are taking this very seriously. After investigating the situation, we can confirm that this agent is no longer affiliated with the brand and has not been since prior to this incident.” Inman’s report also noted that agents affiliated with Century 21 operate through independently owned and operated companies.
How did the restaurant respond?
Fabio Oribo, Cazuelas’ head of marketing, told The Independent, “It’s just not right, just not right,” and described Ricardo as a good person and the staff as people who come to work to serve customers and have a good time. Inman quoted Oribo saying, “This is just a space for being inclusive and there’s no space for hate inside Cazuelas.”

Recently, one of our team members faced an unacceptable situation, and we stand firmly against any form of hate or discrimination. Together, we will continue to create a welcoming space for everyone. Thank you for your unwavering support!”
Oribo said the customer may have been upset about a coupon or a related issue, but he presented that only as a possibility; staff did not know what prompted the note. PerthNow also reported his account that the wait may have been longer than usual because the restaurant was busy. Neither explanation was established as the customer’s motive.

Was there a fundraiser for Ricardo?
Yes. A GoFundMe titled “Tip Ricardo: Because Hate Has No Place Here” was reported in March 2025. The Daily Dot said it had raised more than $8,000 from over 560 donors by March 4; The Independent reported more than $14,300 by the afternoon of March 5. Those are dated snapshots, not current totals, and the campaign’s present status has not been verified.
