A Chinese financial-news report said Huawei Pura 70-series shipments were 125% higher than P60-series shipments over comparable launch periods. The figure was attributed to an unnamed Huawei insider, however, and the public reports do not provide a shipment table or independent audit. It is a noteworthy signal of early momentum—not verified proof of consumer sales or a company-wide recovery.
What does the reported 125% increase mean?
NBD reported on July 17, 2024, that a Huawei insider said Pura 70-series shipments from the start of the “Pioneer Program” on April 18 through July 16 were 125% above P60-series shipments during the comparable period. The comparison is between the two product families over similar launch windows, not a disclosed full-year result. NBD’s report is the principal source for the claim.
A 125% increase means the new figure is 225% of the baseline: 2.25 times as many units, not merely 1.25 times as many. For example, if the P60 shipped 1 million units in the comparison period, a 125% increase would imply 2.25 million Pura 70 shipments. That example is illustrative; the public reports do not disclose the P60 baseline, so the absolute Pura 70 total cannot be calculated from the percentage.
The wording matters. “Shipments” generally describes units sent into distribution channels; it does not necessarily mean that retailers sold those phones to customers. The report does not establish whether the numbers represent manufacturer-to-channel shipments, consumer sell-through, or another measure.

How strong is the evidence?
The 125% figure is credible as a reported Huawei-insider claim, but it is not established in the available public coverage as independently audited shipment data. NBD attributed it to an unnamed insider. The English-language summaries from Gizmochina and Huawei Central relay the claim; they do not supply a public methodology or underlying shipment table.
- The insider is not named in the reports.
- The P60 unit baseline and the underlying calculation are not published.
- The reports do not clearly establish geographic scope, channel coverage, or whether the measure is sell-in or sell-through. The comparison appears China-focused, but it should not be described as global without explicit evidence.
- No matching, independently published tracker data is identified in the cited coverage as confirmation of the 125% comparison.
Those gaps do not prove the claim is false. They limit how confidently readers can treat it as a measured market result.

What phones were included?
Huawei renamed its P-series branding to Pura in 2024; existing P60 products kept their original names, according to Huawei’s support information. The Pura 70 generation comprised four models: Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro+, and Pura 70 Ultra. That broader lineup may not be directly comparable with the P60 family unless the model groupings and markets were alike.
Specifications also varied by model and region. For example, Huawei’s Oman page lists the base Pura 70 with a 6.6-inch LTPO OLED display, Kirin 9000S1, a 50MP main camera, and up to 66W wired charging. Its Singapore page lists the Pura 70 Ultra with a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display, Kirin 9010, a 50MP main camera, and up to 100W wired charging. Omdia’s April 2024 product brief listed Chinese launch prices of ¥5,499 for the Pura 70, ¥6,499 for the Pro, ¥8,099 for the Pro+, and ¥9,999 for the Ultra. Those are launch prices, not current or universal prices. The price and model mix matter when interpreting shipments: a family-level unit comparison does not reveal which variants moved or the revenue they generated. Omdia’s April 2024 brief.
Why launch conditions matter
The Pura 70 entered Huawei’s Pioneer Program on April 18, 2024. Launch coverage reported that the Pro and Ultra sold out quickly through some official online channels, with queues reported at physical stores. Those reports describe early launch conditions, not a measured rate of sustained consumer purchases. Other factors could have contributed to Pura 70 momentum, but the shipment claim does not identify causes. Huawei already had renewed domestic premium-market momentum after the Mate 60 launch; Xinhua, citing Counterpoint, reported Huawei’s share of China’s high-end smartphone market at 22.8% in the fourth quarter of 2023. The Pura name, camera positioning, four-model range, consumer interest in Huawei’s Kirin platform, and product availability may also have mattered. These are plausible context, not demonstrated explanations for the reported 125% difference.

What the figure does—and does not—say about Huawei
If accurate, the reported comparison points to strong early relative momentum for the Pura 70 family against its predecessor. It does not, by itself, prove that Huawei’s global smartphone business had recovered, that shipments became consumer sales, or that demand would persist. Nor does it establish profitability, market-share gains outside China, or normalized supply. A product-family shipment comparison is one signal, not a complete assessment of Huawei’s business or its competition with Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Honor, or Vivo.
For a buyer, the shipment claim is not a substitute for checking the exact regional model, software, carrier support, app compatibility, warranty, and local availability. Huawei product configurations and services vary by market; the reported percentage says nothing about those practical considerations.
