What were the HSSC TGT eligibility criteria?
Common conditions
The notice set a general age range of 18–42 years and described relaxations for eligible categories. It also required Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matriculation or higher, and a qualifying HTET/STET in the relevant subject.
Subject-specific qualifications
The required bachelor’s degree and teacher-training qualifications varied by subject and cadre. There was no single degree formula for every TGT applicant, so eligibility depended on the exact category entry in the notice. The listed qualifications were to be met by the application closing date, 15 March 2023. How was the selection scheme different from the final-result method?
What the original advertisement said
The 2023 notice set out a 100-mark selection scheme: 95% for the written examination and 5% for socio-economic criteria and experience. The written test was described as an offline, OMR-based examination in English and Hindi, with 100 questions worth 0.95 marks each. The notice said there was no negative marking for a wrong answer, but an unanswered question could attract a deduction if the required option-handling procedure was not followed.
How HSSC said it prepared the final result
HSSC’s final-result announcement dated 27 July 2024 said the final result was prepared solely on written-examination marks, without socio-economic criteria weightage. It attributed this approach to the Punjab and Haryana High Court judgment of 31 May 2024 in LPA No. 1037 of 2023, which the Supreme Court upheld on 24 June 2024 in SLP (C) Nos. 13275–13277 of 2024. The 5% factor in the original advertisement should therefore not be treated as part of the final merit computation described in that announcement. HSSC’s results page, checked on 8 October 2026, lists a revised final result for TGT Science under Advertisement No. 2/2023 for categories 7 and 12, along with revised marks for several other TGT categories. Result updates are category-specific; do not assume every subject or cadre is at the same stage. Candidates should open the HSSC results page and check the notice for their exact category.
