TrialPay’s historical model offered a free product or discount when a consumer accepted a partner offer connected to a purchase. The catch was that the offer was funded by the consumer’s action—and its specific terms could involve a trial, fees, or later billing. TrialPay’s 2010 announcement describes that model; the available sources do not establish whether TrialPay or its offer catalog is available today.
How TrialPay’s free-offer model worked
In a December 15, 2010 announcement, TrialPay described “transactional advertising”: a targeted partner offer shown before, during, or after a purchase. Accepting an offer could provide a free product or a discount on a current or future purchase. The consumer’s action on the partner offer helped fund the benefit, so “free” did not necessarily mean there was no commitment or cost.

TrialPay said advertisers acquired customers on a pay-for-performance basis and merchants earned revenue from existing traffic. Those are the company’s own descriptions of its business model, not independent confirmation that every offer worked the same way. The announcement also reported more than 80 million users and over 10,000 merchants worldwide at that time; those are company-reported 2010 figures, not current totals.
What was the catch?
The details depended on the particular partner offer. A free item might require completing an offer, and a trial could turn into a paid subscription if not canceled on time. Shipping or other fees could also mean the deal was not cost-free. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns that free-trial offers may lead to charges when consumers miss the cancellation deadline or overlook fees.

Trustpilot’s TrialPay listing showed 10 reviews and a Poor rating when inspected, but the site said TrialPay had not invited customers to leave reviews and that the reviews might not be representative. Some visible entries were historical complaints. One included an old support response attributing an uncredited survey completion to an offer provider’s eligibility rules and a tracking problem. That is an anecdote about one historical offer, not evidence of a current policy or a typical outcome.
How to evaluate a similar offer before signing up
Use the offer’s own terms—not the word “free”—to work out what you are agreeing to. The FTC recommends checking the terms, trial length, and cancellation instructions before signing up. California’s Department of Justice adds that consumers should look for prechecked boxes that add products or extend an offer, research the company and product, record the trial period, and review payment statements.

- Check what happens after the trial. Find the trial duration, post-trial price, billing frequency, and whether the offer renews automatically.
- Find the cancellation rules. Note how to cancel and the exact deadline. The FTC advises: “If you sign up, make a note on your calendar to remind you to cancel before the trial ends.”
- Inspect every box and enrollment term. Look for preselected options or language that enrolls you in another product, extends the offer, or shares your information with a partner.
- Keep records and watch your account. Save the terms and confirmation, record the deadline, and monitor card statements after signing up. If you believe a charge is wrong and the company will not resolve it, California DOJ advises contacting your card issuer to dispute it.
Is TrialPay still available?
The sources establish TrialPay’s historical model but do not verify its current operating status or whether any offers are live. Do not assume you can sign up or redeem a TrialPay offer today. If you encounter a page using the name, verify who operates it and read the specific terms before providing payment information.
