To check a crypto payment, copy its transaction ID (also called a transaction hash) from the sending wallet or exchange, then look it up in a block explorer for the exact network used. Check whether it is pending, included in a block, confirmed or failed, and compare the addresses, asset and amount with the payment instructions. If it is confirmed on-chain but missing from an exchange account, the exchange may still need to credit it under its own rules.
A transaction hash lets someone look up public transaction details; it does not let them reverse a transfer. Never share a seed phrase, private key, wallet password or one-time authentication code to get help.
How to verify a blockchain transaction
- Find the transaction hash. Open the sending wallet or exchange’s activity or transaction details and copy the transaction ID/hash. If there is no hash, check the platform’s status page or ask its support whether it broadcast the transaction.
- Choose an explorer for the exact network. A coin or token can exist on more than one network, and an explorer for one network will not show a transaction made on another. Trezor’s transaction ID guide gives Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin explorer examples and notes that a transfer may be on a different EVM network from the one currently selected in a wallet.
- Look up the hash and read the status. Check whether the explorer finds it, whether it is pending, included or successful, and what confirmation count or finality indicator it displays.
- Match the payment details. Compare the sender and destination addresses, amount and asset, and network with the original payment instructions. A hash matching a transaction does not by itself prove that the intended recipient or network was used.
- Compare on-chain status with the receiving service. If the explorer shows success but an exchange balance has not changed, check that service’s deposit status, notices and confirmation requirements. Coinbase’s pending transaction guidance is one example of a platform-specific support flow.
Block explorers display transaction information; they are not support channels and cannot reverse a transfer. Use your wallet or exchange’s official support for account or transaction actions.
What “pending” means—and what it does not
Status labels are not standardized across wallets and services. Blockchain.com describes a pending transaction as submitted but not yet included in a block, a confirming transaction as included but below the applicable completion threshold, and a confirmed transaction as having met that threshold in its transaction status explainer.

A wallet can still say “Pending” after a transaction is in a block. BitBox says its Bitcoin app keeps that label until six confirmations; one to five confirmations mean the transaction is already in a block. That is BitBoxApp behavior, not a universal Bitcoin rule. Its Bitcoin transaction support page, updated July 28, 2026, also cautions that pending does not necessarily mean a transaction has failed.
Common documented causes of delay include a low transaction fee, network congestion, slower block timing, or an unconfirmed transaction that the payment depends on. A transaction sent through a centralized exchange may also still be waiting for that provider to process it. Exodus lists typical pending times of 60 minutes or less for Bitcoin and five minutes or less for Ethereum, BNB, Cardano, Litecoin and Solana; these are Exodus’s estimates, not network guarantees, as stated in its pending transaction guidance, updated August 28, 2026.

What to do based on the explorer result
The hash appears, but the transaction is pending or has zero confirmations
The explorer has not yet recorded the transaction as confirmed under the status it displays. If your wallet or explorer shows fee or congestion information, use it as context rather than a promise of when the transaction will complete. Fee estimates are not guarantees.
Do not immediately send the payment again. BitBox warns that a delayed original and a second payment could both eventually confirm. If you control the sending wallet, follow that wallet’s documented instructions for the specific network: Bitcoin fee bumping and replacing or canceling an EVM transaction are different operations. Trezor notes that on Ethereum, a pending transaction with a lower nonce can block later transactions from the same address. If someone else sent the funds, ask that sender or their provider to investigate; a recipient generally cannot change the sender’s transaction.

The hash cannot be found
Check that you copied the full ID correctly and that the explorer is for the network used. Refresh the wallet and explorer details. If it remains missing, contact the sending wallet or exchange before trying again. BitBox recommends escalation if the transaction remains absent or the wallet and explorer disagree after refreshing.
The explorer shows confirmed or successful, but the funds are missing
First compare the destination address and network with the original instructions. Then check the receiving wallet’s selected account, network and token display. Trezor’s missing coins guidance describes wrong-account and alternate-network situations that can make funds appear missing.

For an exchange deposit, check account notices and that provider’s deposit requirements. A confirmed on-chain transaction does not guarantee the exchange has credited the account. If the address and network are correct but the deposit remains uncredited, contact the receiving provider with the hash and relevant public transaction details.
The explorer shows failed or reverted
Do not treat a failed or reverted transaction as a successful payment. Read the chain-specific status and follow the wallet or platform’s instructions before retrying. On some account-based networks, a failed transaction may still have network-fee implications, but the effect depends on the chain; do not assume it is the same everywhere.

There is no universal confirmation count or waiting period for every network, wallet and recipient. BitBox’s six-confirmation threshold applies to the Pending-to-Complete label in its Bitcoin app, while a receiving exchange may use its own credit threshold. Likewise, Exodus’s typical times are estimates from its wallet guidance, not guarantees for an individual transaction.
Support instructions can be specific to a platform. Coinbase tells users to wait at least 30 minutes before escalating a pending send through its support flow, according to its current help page accessed October 7, 2026. That is not a general waiting rule for all blockchains or services. Follow the receiving service’s stated requirements when deciding whether a deposit should be credited.
