Amazon’s official sources describe department-specific search options and visual search, but do not establish one universal feature formally called “Advanced Search.” The controls available can vary by product category, marketplace, device, and account.
How do I find a specific item on Amazon?
Start with the product type, then add details that distinguish the item: its intended use, brand, size, color, model, or another important specification. For example, instead of searching only for “water bottle,” try a description that includes the capacity or material you need. Add only details that matter; a long string of guesses can make it harder to identify the right result.

Amazon says departments have customized search and browse options; for books, for example, searching in Books or Kindle Store can produce more relevant results than searching across All departments. After searching, look at the refinements and sorting choices available for that particular search. Apply only the ones tied to a real requirement, such as a price range, customer rating, or delivery timing if those controls are shown. The options are not a fixed, universal set, so do not assume every category or Amazon experience will display the same filters.

Amazon says result ordering can be influenced by past sales history, availability, how long a listing has been present, and popularity. Those factors do not establish that a highly ranked listing is the best fit for your needs or the lowest-cost offer. Treat rank as a way to browse, not as a substitute for checking specifications and price.
How should I compare products and offers?
Once you have a manageable set of candidates, compare the features that determine whether each one will work for you. Amazon’s shopping guidance identifies price, shipping option, color, dimensions, weight, and customer rating as possible comparison points. Amazon’s shopping tips also recommend checking unit pricing for comparable everyday essentials, where a displayed price per unit can make differently sized packs easier to compare.

- Total cost: Compare the current price and shipping offer. For comparable everyday goods, use the displayed unit price when it is available and meaningful.
- Ratings: Consider customer ratings alongside the product details rather than treating a rating as proof that an item suits your particular needs.
- Delivery: Check the delivery estimate and shipping option on the offer you are considering.
Before placing an order, open the product detail page and verify the selected variant, seller or offer, current price, and delivery estimate. Search results may not show all the details that apply to the option you select.

If you do not know the product’s name, try Amazon Lens in the Amazon Shopping app. Amazon says shoppers can take a photo or choose one from the camera roll, then add descriptive text—such as a brand or color—to refine the visual results. The available result refinements can include price, customer ratings, and delivery options, according to Amazon’s Lens guide; that does not mean the same controls appear in every ordinary text search.

Amazon reported in 2024 that photo searches using Lens had “more than double[d] over the past year.” The statement is Amazon’s usage report, and the article does not specify exact calendar dates for the comparison; it is not evidence that Lens will identify every item or return the best offer.
