It is not an Xbox redemption code: add it as a payment card if checkout allows, or use an Xbox/Microsoft gift card code as a separate option.
Mastercard gift card vs. Xbox gift card
A Mastercard gift card is a prepaid payment card. An Xbox or Microsoft gift card is a code you redeem to add eligible credit to your Microsoft account. Xbox Support treats payment options and prepaid-code redemption as separate processes: manage payment options and redeem prepaid codes.

You cannot enter a Mastercard gift card as though it were an Xbox code, and its balance does not automatically convert into Microsoft account credit.
How to try the Mastercard gift card

Open the payment-options or checkout flow for your Microsoft/Xbox account and check which payment types are offered in your country. Xbox Support provides guidance for managing payment options and billing details, but the precise labels and steps can vary by region and interface.

If the local checkout accepts the card type, enter the Mastercard number, expiration date, security code, and any billing details requested. Use the billing address required by the card issuer.

Check the total before submitting. The available card balance needs to cover the full charge if the checkout does not offer another way to pay the remainder.

Xbox’s support information does not establish that every Mastercard-branded prepaid gift card is accepted. Acceptance can depend on the card issuer’s rules and the payment options available for your account’s country, so treat checkout as the confirmation rather than assuming the card will work.
If Xbox declines the card
Before another attempt, check the issuer’s instructions and confirm that the card is activated, enabled for online purchases, and has enough available balance. Some issuers require a billing address or ZIP/postal code to be registered before online use. These are general card checks; they are not Xbox-specific guarantees.

For a declined subscription payment, use Xbox’s subscription-payment troubleshooting guidance. For a prepaid card’s activation, online-use eligibility, address requirements, or decline reason, contact the issuer. A decline does not by itself show whether the problem is the card, the issuer’s restrictions, or the checkout’s regional payment options.

If the Mastercard is not accepted, an Xbox/Microsoft gift card is a separate option: redeem its code through the prepaid-code flow, then use any resulting credit for eligible purchases under the applicable regional terms. Availability and redemption rules vary by geography. Buying or redeeming that code does not transfer the Mastercard’s remaining balance; it is a different purchase and funding method.
