Upload an image from your computer, import it from your phone, or bring it in from a web address. eBay requires at least one photo, and the first photo is the main image shown with your listing in search results.
Before you upload: photo limits and formats
eBay’s photo help page says a listing can have up to 24 pictures and sets a 12 MB limit per image. It lists JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WEBP, HEIC and AVIF as accepted formats. The page recommends images at least 500 × 500 pixels, with about 1600 × 1600 pixels recommended. Separately, eBay’s picture policy requires photos to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.
These are eBay’s published requirements and recommendations; the labels and controls in the listing flow can vary. If a field or button is named differently in your form, follow the current on-screen photo controls.
How to upload photos from a computer

In the listing form, go to Photos & Video. Drag image files into the photo area or select Upload from computer. If the listing already has photos and you want to add more, choose Add.

Select one or more image files. Check that each file is within eBay’s stated 12 MB per-photo limit and uses an accepted format.

Use the photo editor if needed to crop or rotate an image, adjust brightness or contrast, or change its background. Save your edits.

Review the thumbnails and reorder them if needed. The photo in the first position is the main image displayed with the item title in search results.
How to upload photos from a phone

In Photos & Video, turn on Upload photos from mobile.

Select Add, then Upload from mobile. eBay sends a notification to your phone so you can add pictures to the draft from your photo library, files or camera.

Return to the listing form, check the imported thumbnails, and arrange them in the order you want.
eBay’s advanced listing tool also describes mobile import options, but the exact controls can differ by listing flow. See eBay’s advanced listing tool instructions if you are using that tool.
How to add a picture from a web address

In the listing form, select Add Photos, then Copy your photos from a web address.

Enter the image URL and choose Import.

Check that the photo appears correctly in the listing. If your flow offers See photo options, eBay also documents a route to enable Upload photos from web and import one or more URLs.
Web import requires an image address, not just the address of a page that happens to display a picture. If the import does not work, save a permitted copy of the image and upload it from your computer or phone instead.
Choose the main photo and show the item clearly
The first photo is the main image beside your listing title in search results. To change it, move the photo you want into the top-left position in the photo editor. eBay notes that changing the main photo on an active listing can depend on listing type and status, including offer or bid activity and how much time remains.

Show scratches, wear and other flaws in close-up photos. For used, refurbished or flawed items, photograph the actual item rather than relying on stock imagery. eBay’s selling practices policy addresses the need for item-accurate listings.

Make clear whether the listing is for one item or a bundle, and ensure the photos accurately represent what the buyer will receive.

A tripod can help steady a camera. If you do not have one, eBay suggests placing the camera on a flat surface and using a shutter timer to reduce movement.
Photo rules and image rights
eBay’s picture policy prohibits misleading pictures, placeholder images that convey messages, borders, added text or artwork, marketing material and watermarks. It requires images to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side; violations can lead to content removal, warnings, restrictions or account suspension.

eBay says sellers should take their own photos or use images from the eBay product catalog. Do not copy a photo from a manufacturer’s site or an image search unless you have explicit written permission from the rights holder. eBay’s content-sharing terms also explain that photos uploaded to listings may be considered for the eBay product catalog; inclusion is not guaranteed.
Why won’t my pictures upload to eBay?

Check the file. Confirm that its format is on eBay’s accepted list and that it does not exceed the 12 MB per-photo limit.

Refresh the browser setup. eBay suggests using a current browser and clearing its cache.

Check pop-up blocking. A pop-up blocker may prevent the uploader from appearing.

Check whether an older image is still available. eBay says photos remain in completed listings for up to 90 days; an older photo may have expired or been archived and may no longer be available to reuse.
How to replace a photo
To replace an uploaded image, delete the existing photo and upload the new one. If the image was copied from a web address, provide a new URL. On an active listing, changing which photo is the main image may be subject to the listing-type and status conditions eBay describes.
