To transfer money from Cash App to your bank account, link an external bank account first. In the current Cash App interface, open the Money tab, tap Withdraw, enter the amount, choose Standard or Instant, and select the linked bank account.
Standard transfers are free and typically arrive in 1–3 business days. Instant transfers usually arrive within minutes, but Cash App says they can take up to 24 hours depending on the bank; the fee is shown in the app before you confirm.

What you need before transferring
You need a linked bank account to move your Cash App balance to a bank. You can receive money into your Cash App Balance without connecting a bank account, but you cannot transfer that balance to a bank until you link one. Cash App explains the receiving and linking requirements in its current consumer guide.

- Open Cash App and tap the Profile icon.

Cash App says you may be asked to link a debit card first. A debit card is not the same as an external bank account for every transfer type: under Cash App’s current U.S. Terms of Service, a Mastercard-branded debit card is not eligible for Standard transfers. If you want the free Standard option, link an external bank account.

Standard vs. Instant transfers
| Transfer type | Cost | Typical timing | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Free | 1–3 business days | Moving money without paying an instant-transfer fee |
| Instant | Fee shown before confirmation | Typically within minutes, but up to 24 hours depending on the bank | When speed is more important than avoiding a fee |
Cash App’s U.S. Terms of Service state that there is no fee for a Standard transfer from your Cash App Balance to a linked account. Cash App’s consumer information says an Instant transfer is typically available within minutes, while also warning that the bank may take up to 24 hours to make the funds available.

How much does an Instant transfer cost?
Do not assume that every Instant transfer costs 1.5%. That commonly repeated figure is not a current universal rate.
Cash App’s current consumer explainer lists Instant-transfer fees of 0.5%–1.75%, with a $0.25 minimum. Its current U.S. Terms of Service describe a broader fee schedule of 0.5%–2.5%, with minimums ranging from $0.25 to $1 and a maximum of $75. Because the published descriptions show different range details, the fee displayed in the Instant-transfer flow is the one that controls your individual transaction.
Before confirming, check:
- The transfer amount.
- The bank account receiving the money.
- Whether you selected Standard or Instant.
- The exact Instant fee, if applicable.
- The final amount expected to reach the bank.
Cash App also lists a separate Paper Money Deposit fee change in its Terms: effective June 29, 2026, the company stopped waiving the $1 Paper Money Deposit fee for eligible Cash App Green customers. That fee concerns adding cash through Paper Money Deposit; it does not change the Standard or Instant bank-transfer process described here.

How long does a Cash App bank transfer take?
Standard transfer timing
A Standard transfer is free and typically reaches the linked bank account within 1–3 business days. It is the appropriate choice when you do not need the money immediately and want to avoid an Instant-transfer fee.

Instant transfer timing
An Instant transfer is generally available within minutes, but it is not guaranteed to be immediate. Cash App’s current consumer information says an Instant transfer can take up to 24 hours depending on the bank.
That means a transfer that does not appear instantly has not necessarily failed. Cash App may also delay a transfer for fraud or risk screening, limit the number or amount of transfers, or hold funds during an investigation. Those possibilities are described in the company’s current U.S. Terms of Service.

- Track your earnings and view your complete sales history from the free Square Point of Sale app.
- Works with Apple and Android devices that have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. No charging needed
Are there Cash App transfer limits?
There is no single universal transfer limit that applies to every Cash App account. Cash App says limits can vary and directs users to the app’s Limits section in Settings for their current account-specific limits.
Before starting a large transfer, open Settings and check Limits rather than relying on a limit listed in an older article or on an unofficial website. Cash App may also limit the number of transfers, not only the dollar amount.

What to do if the transfer is delayed
- Check the transfer type. Standard transfers typically take 1–3 business days. Instant transfers usually take minutes but may take up to 24 hours depending on the bank.
- Check the destination. Make sure you selected the intended linked bank account before initiating another transaction.
- Consider Cash App’s risk controls. Transfers may be delayed, limited, or held for fraud screening or an investigation.
- Do not assume you can undo it. Cash App states that a bank transfer cannot be canceled after it is initiated, so avoid submitting a duplicate transfer simply because the first one is not visible yet.
If the transfer remains unresolved after the applicable timing, use the support options available inside your Cash App account and keep the transaction details available. The timing above is an estimate, not a promise of immediate availability.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying to transfer without linking a bank account: You can receive money without one, but a linked account is required to move your Cash App balance to a bank.
- Using only a Mastercard debit card for Standard: Cash App’s U.S. Terms say Mastercard-branded debit cards are not eligible for Standard transfers. Link an external bank account instead.
- Expecting every Instant transfer to be immediate: The usual timing is minutes, but the bank may take up to 24 hours.
- Assuming the Instant fee is always 1.5%: Cash App publishes a range, and the exact fee appears in the app before confirmation.
- Expecting to cancel a transfer: Current U.S. Terms say a bank transfer cannot be canceled after initiation.
- Following an old menu path: The current instructions use Money → Withdraw, not the older Banking → Cash Out wording.
- Relying on a fixed transfer limit: Check the Limits section in Settings because limits vary by account.
The simplest choice
Choose Standard if the transfer can take 1–3 business days and you want to pay no Cash App transfer fee. Choose Instant if you need the money sooner, but review the fee and remember that even an Instant transfer can take up to 24 hours depending on the bank.

The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can I cancel a Cash App transfer after sending it to my bank?
No. Cash App’s current U.S. Terms of Service state that a transfer to a linked bank account cannot be canceled after it is initiated. Check the amount, destination, transfer type, and fee before confirming.
What is the maximum amount I can transfer from Cash App?
Cash App does not publish one universal limit for every account. Transfer limits can vary, so check the app’s Limits section in Settings for your current account-specific limit.
The Bottom Line
Link your external bank account, then use Money → Withdraw. Standard is free and typically takes 1–3 business days. Instant is usually faster, but it has a fee shown in the app and may take up to 24 hours depending on the bank. Since initiated bank transfers cannot be canceled, verify the destination and fee before confirming.
