The correct next contact depends on whether Amazon or a third-party seller shipped the order.
Track the order and check for separate shipments
Start with the order itself rather than a general carrier search. Amazon’s order-specific tracker ties the status, estimated date and available tracking number to the shipment you actually purchased.

- Find the order and select Track package.
- Select All updates to review available delivery scans, event times and tracking numbers.
- If the order contains several items, check each shipment separately. Items in one order can have different tracking information and delivery dates.
- If a carrier other than Amazon is delivering the package, use the carrier details shown in the order to look for further updates.
A multi-item order is not necessarily one delivery. Amazon may display more than one shipment under the same order, so a delivered item does not prove that every item has arrived. Open each shipment’s details and compare its individual estimated date and latest scan.

For a third-party seller’s shipment, tracking visibility depends on whether the seller supplied tracking information and which shipping option was used. A seller-shipped order may therefore show less detail than an Amazon-shipped order. Some standard international deliveries may not be trackable at all. Amazon’s public help guidance does not promise tracking for every delivery method.

What to look for in All updates
The most useful details are the latest scan, the estimated delivery date, the carrier name and any tracking number. Notifications from the carrier may contain information that has not yet appeared in the order view. Keep the order page and those notifications together when deciding whether a package is merely delayed or needs escalation.
Status displays and delivery details are shipment-specific. If one item says “Delivered” while another says “Arriving,” treat them as separate situations and use the support option attached to the item or shipment with the problem.
What Amazon’s delivery statuses mean

“Out for delivery” means Amazon expects delivery that day; it is not a promise that the driver has already reached your address. “Delivered” means the carrier recorded a delivery, but the parcel could have been left at a safe or sheltered location. “Undeliverable” means the delivery attempt failed and the shipment is being returned to Amazon.

Use the latest tracking event for your particular shipment instead of relying on a status label by itself. A general status can remain visible while a newer carrier event, delivery photo or instruction appears in All updates.
Why tracking may be limited or look incomplete
Not every shipping method produces the same level of tracking. Standard international delivery, for example, may not be trackable. Third-party sellers also control whether tracking information is supplied and which shipping service is selected. The absence of a tracking number is therefore not, by itself, proof that the order is lost.
When tracking is available, the order page is still the best starting point because it identifies the seller, carrier and shipment. If a carrier other than Amazon is listed, use that carrier information for further delivery details. If the order is split, repeat the check for every shipment rather than assuming that one tracking number covers the entire purchase.
If the package is late
1. Compare the estimate with the latest event
Open Track package and compare the estimated delivery date with the newest scan. Check any email or other notification from the carrier as well; it may contain newer information or explain a delay. Record which item or shipment is late, especially when the order contains multiple packages.

A late estimate does not by itself establish that a parcel is lost. The shipment may still be moving, waiting for a new delivery attempt or affected by an event that has not produced a fresh scan yet.
2. Allow the stated delay period
Amazon Customer Service advises allowing 48 hours after the estimated delivery date for an unexpected delay. Its Late Deliveries help page says, “Most deliveries arrive within 48 hours.” This is guidance, not a guarantee that every delayed order will arrive within that period.
Amazon lists several possible causes for a delay:
- Bad weather.
- Heavy traffic.
- Holiday demand.
- Customs delays affecting international parcels.
- Operational problems.
Continue checking the order tracker and carrier notifications during this period. If a new estimated date appears, use the instructions and support choices attached to that shipment. Do not treat the 48-hour guidance as a universal delivery promise or as proof that a refund is automatically available.
3. Escalate through the route for the shipment
If the delay remains unresolved after the 48-hour period, use the order’s displayed support options. Amazon’s help page says to contact Amazon Customer Service about an Amazon-shipped late order within 30 days of its estimated delivery date. That 30-day period is a procedural contact window, not a statement that every order has the same remedy.
If a third-party seller sold and shipped the order, contact that seller instead. Include the order number, affected shipment, estimated date and latest tracking event. The seller may have information associated with the selected shipping option that is not visible in Amazon’s tracker.
The order’s current support choices should take precedence if they differ from a general description. Delivery procedures, interface labels, contact windows and available remedies can vary by region, seller, shipment and account.
4. Check whether a delivery guarantee applied
A missed estimated date and a missed guaranteed delivery are not necessarily the same thing. If the order displayed a qualifying delivery guarantee, Amazon’s published help page describes this route:

- Choose Shipment is late.
For an eligible guaranteed delivery that did not meet its guarantee, Amazon says customers can request a refund of shipping fees. This remedy is not established for orders without a qualifying guarantee. Eligibility, the available menu choices and the amount or type of any remedy are order-specific, so do not assume that a late standard estimate qualifies.

A delivered scan can mean the parcel was left in a safe place rather than handed directly to you. Amazon’s customer-help guidance recommends completing the following checks before escalating. Work through them in order and keep notes about what you checked.
- Verify the address. In Your Orders, open the order and confirm that the shipping address is correct. If the address is wrong, tell the support representative or seller exactly what the order shows.
- Review delivery messages and proof. Check Amazon’s Message Center, the delivery confirmation, your mailbox or other mail location and any delivery photo available for the shipment.
- Look around the delivery location. Follow the delivery instructions and inspect nearby places where a carrier could have left the package, including a safe, sheltered or less visible location.
- Ask other people at the address. Check with household members and neighbors in case someone accepted the delivery or moved it after it arrived.
- Wait 48 hours after the delivered scan. Amazon says a package can be scanned as delivered before it arrives. Keep monitoring the tracker during this period.
- Check with the carrier. Use the carrier identified in the order. It may have additional information about the delivery location or scan.
These checks address the most common explanations supported by Amazon’s own checklist: an incorrect address, a parcel placed somewhere unexpected, another person accepting it or a delivery scan appearing before the physical arrival. Do not assume that the word “Delivered” settles where the package was left.
Escalate after the checklist
If the package remains missing after the checks and the waiting period, use the support route tied to who shipped it. Contact the seller for an order shipped by a third-party seller. Contact Amazon Customer Service for an Amazon-shipped order. Amazon’s help page gives a 30-day contact window measured from the expected delivery date for a missing package on an Amazon-shipped order.
The public help guidance does not establish a universal refund or replacement outcome for every missing delivery. A support agent or seller will assess the order, shipment, delivery evidence and applicable options. Provide the delivery photo, carrier details, address confirmation and the time of the delivered scan when available.

Amazon Shipping’s public tracking page says to contact the seller if an Amazon Shipping package cannot be located after 36 hours. That is guidance for that tracking service. Amazon.com’s general customer-help page advises waiting 48 hours after a package is marked delivered. Because the windows differ, follow the instructions associated with the specific tracking service and order rather than treating either period as universal.
If the package arrived but an item is missing
A missing item inside an arrived package is different from a package that never arrived. First open Your Orders and check whether the missing item was sent in a separate shipment. Confirm its own tracking number, status and delivery date before reporting it as absent.

If the item was sold and shipped by a third-party seller, contact that seller. For an unresolved missing item in an Amazon-shipped order, Amazon directs customers to Customer Service. Explain that the outer package arrived but identify the specific item that is absent. This distinction helps support choose the correct order record and shipment history.

Carrier identity also matters when you need more delivery detail. Use the carrier information attached to the order and follow any carrier-specific instructions shown there. Common mistakes that slow down a resolution
- Checking only the overall order. A single order can contain several shipments with different dates and tracking numbers.
- Assuming an estimate is a guarantee. A missed estimated date is not automatically a missed guaranteed delivery, and a shipping-fee refund is not established for every late order.
- Escalating before checking the 48-hour guidance. Amazon advises allowing that period for unexpected delays and for a package scanned as delivered before it arrives.
- Contacting the wrong party. Amazon-shipped orders go to Amazon Customer Service; seller-shipped orders start with the third-party seller, subject to the order’s displayed options.

Keep the relevant order and shipment information in front of you so you can describe the issue clearly. Depending on the problem, that may include:
- The order and the particular item or shipment involved, especially if the purchase was split into multiple packages.
- The estimated delivery date and the latest tracking event.
- The shipping address shown in the order.
