The best way to shop an event like it is to set a spending limit before browsing, track the specific items you need, and judge each offer against that item’s recent price—not just a crossed-out price or discount percentage.
What happened during Prime Day 2025?
Amazon announced that its U.S. event would run from 12:01 a.m. PDT on July 8 through July 11, calling it a 96-hour event and its first four-day Prime Day. The schedule was not universal: Amazon listed countries where the event started July 8 and said several other markets would participate later that summer. Amazon said the event included deals across more than 35 categories. It also introduced “Today’s Big Deals,” themed offers launching at midnight PDT and available for a limited time while supplies lasted. Those are Amazon’s descriptions of the event, not independent evidence that every deal was a good value.
There is no disclosed Amazon sales total to use as a measure of the event’s performance. The Associated Press reported that Amazon does not disclose Prime Day sales figures. Adobe Digital Insights forecast $23.8 billion in overall online spending from July 8–11, 2025, 28.4% above the comparable period; that was a forecast for online spending overall, not Amazon sales or a final measured total. How to shop a sale without overpaying
1. Decide what you need and set your limit
Write down the item, the features or model you need, and the most you are willing to pay before opening the sale page. A discount is not a saving if it pushes you to buy something you did not plan to purchase or spend beyond your budget.
2. Save the exact item to a list
Amazon encouraged shoppers to add products to Lists so they could see whether those items went on deal. Save the exact model or size you want; similar-looking products may differ in specifications, condition, or seller. A list helps you monitor a planned purchase, but it does not establish that the eventual offer is worthwhile.

3. Check the item’s own price history
Compare the offer with the product’s recent prices instead of relying only on a reference price or percentage-off label. Amazon’s current price-history guide says customers can open price history from a product page or ask Alexa a shopping question such as “What’s the price history?” Amazon says the feature can show 30-, 90-, and 365-day views. Its guide names the U.S., UK, Canada, and India for price-history access; it says the 365-day insight is rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India. Availability and interface can change.
That feature description was published in 2026, so it is a method for checking a current or future offer—not proof that the same views were available to every shopper during Prime Day 2025.

4. Compare like with like
When considering alternatives, compare the same model and seller condition. Then account for the total checkout cost and return terms, not just the displayed item price. If an offer is for a different configuration or condition, treat it as a different purchase rather than a direct price match.
5. Buy only when the total and terms meet your threshold
Use your pre-set maximum as the decision rule: buy only if the current total cost and the applicable terms work for you. If the price does not meet your threshold, leave the item on your list rather than treating the event deadline as a reason to spend.

How to read Prime Day claims
Amazon’s event announcement and post-event statements describe the company’s own promotions and results; they are not independent deal rankings. In its July 12, 2025 release, Amazon Worldwide Stores CEO Doug Herrington said, “This year’s extended Prime Day event delivered incredible savings to our members across millions of deals.” Treat that as Amazon’s characterization, not proof that a particular product was the right buy or that its price was unusually low.
Amazon’s post-event release highlighted products including Apple AirPods Pro 2, Ring Battery Doorbell, and Fire TV Stick HD. Those examples show what Amazon chose to feature after the event; they do not establish current availability, a present-day price, or a recommendation for your needs.
