To start selling on Walmart.com, first confirm that your business, products, payments and fulfillment setup meet Walmart Marketplace requirements. Then apply, complete seller-account settings, choose how to ship orders, and build your catalog. Walmart’s current onboarding guide lays out five stages; the four steps below group related tasks to make the process easier to follow.
Step 1: Check eligibility and prepare your business and products
Before you apply, confirm that you can verify your business, supply compliant products and handle customer orders and returns. Walmart’s minimum qualifications include:
- Business identity: A business tax ID or business license, plus documents that verify your business name and address. Walmart does not accept an SSN in place of a business tax ID.
- Ecommerce experience: A history of success in a marketplace or ecommerce business.
- Product identifiers: Products with GTINs or UPCs based on GS1 Company Prefix Numbers.
- Compliant products: A catalog that follows Walmart’s Prohibited Products Policy.
- Payments and fulfillment: An account with Marketplace Wallet or an available third-party payment provider, and a plan to fulfill orders through Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) or another qualifying U.S. business-to-consumer warehouse with returns capability.
Walmart says business verification may take from a few minutes to two business days. Its 2026 New-Seller Savings page gives an average onboarding time of about 10 days; that is an average, not a guaranteed approval or launch date. The verification estimate and overall onboarding average describe different parts of the process.
Step 2: Apply, verify your business and set up your account
Use Walmart’s seller registration to submit your business details and personal identification for the applicant or legal representative. Complete the Seller Profile and make sure your tax registration information matches IRS records or the applicable government documents for your business.

Next, connect a payout method through a provider available to your country of incorporation. Add the name customers will see for your business and your customer-service contact information, then provide any market-specific details Walmart requests. Payment-provider options vary by country, and new sellers may have a payment hold; Walmart says its duration varies by country of incorporation.
Step 3: Choose fulfillment, shipping and returns settings
You can manage fulfillment yourself through Seller Fulfilled Solutions, use WFS for selected catalog items, or combine the two. During onboarding, configure shipping and returns settings that fit how you plan to operate.

Seller-managed fulfillment
With seller fulfillment, you store and ship orders and manage the associated operations. Walmart provides Simplified Shipping Settings and discounted rates through Ship with Walmart. A thermal label printer may be useful if you ship orders yourself, but Walmart does not list one as an application requirement or specify a required printer.
Walmart Fulfillment Services
With WFS, Walmart fulfills selected items. Walmart recommends WFS to new sellers. Its registration guide reports that items with “Fulfilled by Walmart” and “2-day shipping” tags saw “50% GMV growth, on average,” based on Walmart first-party data from June 2024 through June 2025. That is Walmart’s reported average for the tagged items in that period, not a forecast or guarantee for an individual seller.

After onboarding is complete and an item is set up, you can select WFS for specific items. Consider which products to enroll based on your operations and costs; the available information does not establish which option will cost less for a particular product or business.

- Seller Center: Use Setup by Match, Single Item or Bulk Upload Setup, depending on how many products you need to add.
- Direct API connection: Connect your own systems if you need a technical integration.
- Solution provider: Use a third-party provider to integrate your catalog.
Once your listings are created, add inventory. Walmart says account setup may take up to four hours after inventory is added. Seller Center is where you manage account settings, catalog and listings, order tasks, reports and performance. Review Walmart’s Prohibited Products Policy and Seller Performance Standards as you prepare to sell.
What does it cost to sell on Walmart Marketplace?
Walmart says it charges no setup or monthly fees. It deducts referral fees from completed sales, and those fees vary by category and product type. Check Walmart’s current pricing table for the relevant category and item price rather than assuming one rate applies to every product.
