1. Identify the exact Kirby model
Find the model name and serial number on the machine before writing a listing. The Kirby Company gives different serial-number locations for older generations: older units have it on the bottom of the motor unit; Classic 2CB through Legend II models have it on the front of the fancase; and Generation 3 through Sentria 2 models have it on the aluminum casting near the headlight cap on the cloth-bag side. For other models, confirm the location with Kirby’s owner support. Avoid posting the full serial number publicly unless there is a specific reason; provide it privately when needed.
Model matters because Kirby’s products and sales channels are not all the same. Its owner FAQ names the Signature Series V530 upright, C530 canister with turbo nozzle, and C550 canister with Multi-Surface Power Nozzle, which Kirby says are sold through retail partners, local vacuum shops, and online marketplaces. The Avalir Platinum S3 is a separate flagship sold through authorized distributors. See Kirby’s owner FAQ for current details.
2. Check the vacuum and document its condition
Test the machine safely and describe only what you observed. Note whether it powers on, whether the nozzle and brush roll work, and whether there are known faults. List visible wear and every included or missing attachment. Do not describe it as “works perfectly” unless you have checked the relevant functions.

A vacuum that runs may still pick up poorly if the nozzle height, brush roll, belt, or bag needs attention, according to Kirby’s owner guidance. If you have not tested a function, say so rather than implying it works. Kirby provides owner manuals and technical support through its owner resources.
Photograph the actual vacuum from several angles, along with the model label, accessories, and any damage. The FTC recommends using actual-item photos and clear condition details when selling through an online marketplace. Its guidance also advises buyers to read condition descriptions carefully; accurate photos and wording help prevent misunderstandings. See the FTC’s online shopping guidance.

3. Decide whether to repair it or sell it as-is
If a fault could affect the sale, use the model and serial number to ask Kirby or an authorized service provider about the relevant repair. Kirby says Factory Rebuild costs depend on the model and serial number, and shipping charges apply. Its rebuild program is limited to qualifying registered owners and is non-transferable, so a secondhand buyer should not assume they can use it. Compare any repair estimate with the practical alternative: disclose the problem and sell the vacuum as-is. There is no established universal resale premium for a repair, cleaning, or added bags, so do not assume those costs will be recovered in the sale price.

4. Choose where to sell and set a defensible asking price
For a bulky vacuum, compare a local pickup sale with an online marketplace listing. Local pickup can avoid packing and shipping; an online marketplace may reach more buyers but can involve fees, shipping requirements, returns, and platform-specific payment rules. These are trade-offs to assess for your situation, not guaranteed outcomes. Kirby identifies online marketplaces as one channel for its Signature Series, and the FTC advises sellers and buyers to review each marketplace’s policies.

There is no reliable universal price for a used Kirby established here. Check current listings and, where available, completed sales for the exact model, condition, accessory set, and region. Asking prices show what sellers are requesting, not what buyers have paid. A complete working unit, a used unit with missing attachments, and a machine sold for parts are not equivalent comparisons.

- Exact model and approximate age, if known.
- What you tested and what worked, plus any untested functions or known faults.
- Included tools, accessories, bags, or other supplies, and anything missing.
- Visible wear and clear photos of the actual machine.
- Your asking price, whether pickup or shipping is available, and the payment method.
Do not call a used machine “new” unless it is genuinely unused and accurately described. Review the marketplace’s fees, seller terms, payment protections, shipping requirements, and return policy before accepting an offer. The FTC recommends checking marketplace rules, using a safe payment method, and keeping transaction messages. At handoff, provide any available manual and disclose known maintenance issues.
Does a Kirby warranty transfer when you sell it?
No. Kirby says its legacy three-year limited factory warranty, Lifetime Factory Rebuild program, and Fire Plan are not transferable and apply only to the original owner.
