To reset a missed Coursera deadline, open My Learning, select the affected course, and check its Overview, Course home, or Progress page for Reset deadlines, Adjust deadlines, or similar wording. Review the proposed schedule and confirm it. The option is normally available only for eligible courses with flexible schedules; it may not reopen a locked assessment, extend your subscription, or override dates set by a school or employer.
How to reset Coursera deadlines step by step
- Sign in to Coursera in a desktop web browser.
- Open My Learning and select the course or program containing the missed work.
- If you opened a program page, enter the individual course. Deadline controls may appear inside the course rather than on the overall Specialization or Professional Certificate page.
- Open the course’s Overview, Course home, or Progress page.
- Look for a missed-deadline notice or a schedule-management option labeled Reset deadlines, Adjust deadlines, or something similar.
- Review the new dates shown by Coursera and confirm the change.
- Return to the course outline and check that the remaining dates have moved.
Coursera’s exact labels and page locations can vary by course, enrollment type, and interface version. The official Learner Help Center places deadline guidance under Grades and assignments → Grades and deadlines → Assessment deadlines.

Are Coursera deadlines mandatory?
Not every date labeled a “deadline” has the same effect. Coursera may use the term for several different types of date:

| Program deadline | A date imposed by a university, employer, degree program, or other administrator. The learner may not be able to change it. |
Therefore, many ordinary flexible-course schedules can be adjusted, but Coursera deadlines are not universally flexible.

What happens when you reset deadlines?
Completed work and grades
A deadline reset is generally a schedule change rather than a deletion of coursework. Completed lessons, quizzes, assignments, and existing grades should normally remain completed. After confirming the change, verify the course outline and grade areas rather than assuming every course behaves identically.
Upcoming and overdue work
The reset may move overdue or future schedule dates and rebuild the suggested learning plan. It does not necessarily change the submission history for work you already turned in. If an item is marked submitted, do not resubmit it solely to change its displayed date unless the course explicitly permits or requires that action.

Certificate progress
Changing a schedule does not guarantee a certificate. You still need to complete the course’s required lessons, assessments, peer reviews, identity checks, or other conditions. A reset also does not turn a failed grade into a passing grade.

Access and billing
A revised study schedule is separate from your access period. It does not necessarily extend Coursera Plus, a course subscription, a free trial, financial-aid access, or institution-sponsored enrollment. If access is expiring, check your account’s purchase or subscription information and contact the sponsoring institution when applicable.
If you missed a quiz or assignment
First open the individual item and inspect its status. Distinguish among not started, submitted, pending grade, failed, and locked. A general deadline reset may help with pacing, but it cannot be assumed to reopen every assessment.

- Submitted work: Check whether the submission and grade are recorded before attempting anything again.
- Pending grade: Allow for the grading workflow to finish and avoid unnecessary resubmission.
- Failed attempt: A schedule reset does not normally alter the score or convert it into a pass.
- Locked assessment: Treat this as an availability or course-rule issue, not merely an overdue schedule.
If you missed a peer-graded assignment
Peer-graded work can involve two separate deadlines: submitting your own assignment and reviewing other learners’ submissions. Moving the course schedule may not reopen a peer-review window that has closed.
Open the assignment page and check whether your work was submitted, whether required peer reviews remain, and whether the workflow is locked. Coursera lists peer-reviewed assignments as a separate help category, so do not assume peer-review rules are identical to ordinary course deadlines. If the assignment is locked but the course should still be active, contact Coursera Support.

Why the reset option may be missing
The control may be unavailable because of the course format, enrollment method, or the specific problem you are trying to solve. Check the following:
- Use the web version. The mobile app may not expose the same controls. Sign in through a desktop browser first.
- Check the main course page. Look on the Overview, Course home, or Progress page—not only inside the quiz or assignment.
- Confirm enrollment and access. Make sure you are still enrolled and can open the course content.
- Identify the course format. Fixed-session courses may not offer the same schedule controls as self-paced or subscription-based courses.
- Check for administrator control. University, employer, degree, and private-program enrollments may use dates set by an institution.
- Look for an end-date or expiration notice. An ended session or expired enrollment cannot usually be repaired by resetting a study plan.
- Refresh your session. Refresh the page, sign out and back in, or try a supported browser.
Do not repeatedly unenroll and reenroll as a workaround. Unenrollment can affect access and progress, so ask Coursera Support before taking that step.

When the new dates do not appear
- Refresh the course page and reopen the course outline.
- Sign out and back in.
- Check the individual course rather than only the Specialization or Professional Certificate dashboard.
- Open the affected assessment to determine whether its warning concerns a specific submission or grading status.
- Confirm that you changed the schedule in the correct course.
If the dashboard still shows an overdue notice but the individual item is available, the warning may refer to a specific assessment rather than the general learning plan.
Does resetting deadlines extend Coursera access?
No automatic extension should be assumed. A reset changes course scheduling, while access may be governed by a separate subscription, payment, trial, financial-aid approval, institution, or fixed session.

If the real problem is expiring access, review My Purchases or your subscription status. For employer- or university-sponsored learning, ask the program administrator about the applicable end date. Buying Coursera Plus should not be treated as a way to reset deadlines, reopen a closed session, or extend an existing enrollment.
Specializations and Professional Certificates
Open the individual course where the missed deadline appears. A program-level schedule may not control each course’s assessment rules, and resetting one course should not be assumed to reset every course in the program.
What to send Coursera Support
Contact support when the course is active but the schedule control is missing, an assessment appears incorrectly locked, or the dates do not update. Include:
- The course name and URL.
- The email address on the Coursera account.
- A screenshot showing the missing control or error.
- The affected quiz or assignment and its displayed deadline.
- Your enrollment type, if known—for example, individual subscription, financial aid, university, or employer access.
- Whether the course is part of a Specialization or Professional Certificate.
For account or password problems, use the relevant account-help area rather than treating a sign-in issue as a deadline issue. Coursera’s account and notifications help is separate from its grades and assignments guidance.
