1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single “Reset Google Wallet” button. The correct reset depends on what you need to change: a payment card, one phone, your Google Account payment methods, tickets and passes, transaction history, privacy settings, or tap-to-pay. Start with the least destructive option. Removing a card from one device is not the same as deleting it from your Google Account, and a factory reset is rarely the right first step.

Choose the right kind of Google Wallet reset
| Your goal | Use this action |
|---|---|
| Change a card’s expiration date, CVC, name, or billing address | Edit the payment method at wallet.google.com. |
| Remove one card from the phone you are using | Remove it in the Google Wallet app. |
| Disable a card on a lost, sold, traded-in, or returned phone | Use the Wallet website’s Remove from device control. |
| Delete an obsolete payment method from Google’s saved payment methods | Remove it from the Wallet website, then check individual devices. |
| Change the card shown first | Reorder payment cards in the Wallet app. |
| Change the card used by default for contactless payments | Change the default payment method; reordering cards alone does not do this. |
| Replace a broken or expired card | Use Fix or remove and add the card again. |
| Move Wallet to a new phone | Sign in to the same Google Account, restore eligible passes, and set up payment cards again for tap-to-pay. |
| Delete an old ticket, loyalty card, or gift card | Remove the individual pass. |
| Erase Wallet activity or change personalization | Use Your data in Wallet and Google activity controls. |
| Fix contactless payments | Check NFC, the default contactless app, screen lock, device certification, card support, and whether the phone is unlocked. |
These controls are split among the Wallet app, the Wallet website, your Google payments profile, Google activity controls, and the bank or pass provider. Google’s help pages explain the distinction between these locations. See Google’s payment-method guidance.

- Save information you may need. Wallet transaction history may disappear after removing a card or pass. Record or export important details first.
- Check the active Google Account. A card or pass may seem missing simply because the phone is signed in to a different account.
- Identify the scope. Decide whether the problem affects one phone, every device, online Google purchases, or only contactless payments.
- Keep issuer verification available. Re-adding a card may require a text message, email, banking-app approval, or another verification method.
- Check transit balances before wiping a phone. Stored-value transit cards can have separate transfer rules.
- Do not confuse Wallet with your bank. Card cancellation, fraud reports, replacement cards, disputes, and authoritative transaction records remain the issuer’s responsibility.
Remove a payment card from the Android Wallet app
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Find the card. Swipe left if necessary.
- Tap the card.
- Tap More in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Remove payment method.
This removes the card from the Wallet app or device context where you performed the action. It does not necessarily delete every copy of the payment method from other phones, online Google purchases, or your Google payments profile.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
If you need to preserve the card for another device or online purchases, use device-specific removal instead of account-level deletion.
Edit a card or fix an expired card
Payment methods cannot be edited directly in the Wallet app. Use the Wallet website:
- Go to wallet.google.com.
- Select Payment methods.
- Select the card.
- Choose Edit.
Depending on the payment method, you may be able to change the expiration date, CVC, account name, or address. If Google cannot update the name or address, you may need to contact Google support. For an expired card, select Fix and enter the new expiration date and CVC.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This changes the information Google stores for the payment method. It does not change records held by your bank or card issuer. If your bank replaces a card, it may automatically update a saved card in Wallet, but this is not guaranteed for every issuer or card.
Remove a card from one particular device
This is the safest option for a lost, sold, traded-in, returned, or shared phone when you want to keep the payment method available elsewhere.
- Go to wallet.google.com.
- Select Payment methods.
- Select the card.
- Find the device listed for that card.
- Open More beside the device.
- Choose Remove from device.
Removing the card from that device prevents tap-to-pay there, while the payment method may remain available for online purchases and other Google services. Google cautions that website and app changes do not always behave identically: a card removed on the website may still need to be removed from a device, and a card added on the website may still need to be added separately to the Wallet app.
For a lost or stolen phone, also use Android’s device-security tools to lock, locate, or erase the phone. Removing a Wallet card is not a substitute for securing the entire device.

Remove a payment method everywhere
If a card is obsolete, compromised, or no longer yours, remove it from the Wallet website’s payment methods area. Then review the devices listed for that card and remove any remaining device associations.
Account-level removal can affect online Google purchases and other services that use the saved payment method. It can also affect associated Wallet transaction visibility, so check or save records before deleting the card.
Some payment methods may not appear on the Wallet website, including certain Google Store financing options. If you cannot find a payment method, check other payment methods saved in your Google Account or the Google Payments Center.
Re-add a card after removing it
To use a card for tap-to-pay again, add it in the Wallet app and complete any issuer verification. You may need:
- The physical card or its details.
- Access to the bank’s verification method.
- A supported country, card network, and issuer.
- NFC-enabled hardware.
- A secure screen lock.
- A phone that satisfies Google’s security and device-certification requirements.
A card that works for online purchases is not automatically ready for contactless payments. The issuer may also decline a card for Wallet even when the physical card remains usable.
Reorder cards and passes
To change the order of payment cards:
- Open Google Wallet.
- Swipe to the last payment card.
- Tap Edit card order.
- Touch and hold a card.
- Drag it into position.
The card at the top appears first, but card order is not the same as the default contactless payment method. If the wrong card is charged when you tap to pay, change the default payment method rather than merely moving a card to the top.
You can generally reorder passes by touching and holding a pass and dragging it into position. Availability and exact controls can vary by pass type.
Add or remove a card nickname
Nicknames can help distinguish similar cards during checkout in services such as Chrome, YouTube, or Google Play.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

To remove a nickname, open it from the card’s Details page, delete the text, and save.
Reset Wallet after a new phone or factory reset
A factory reset deletes Wallet data stored on the old device. After signing in to the same Google Account, some account-linked loyalty cards, gift cards, event tickets, and boarding passes may return automatically. Payment cards generally still need to be set up again for contactless payments because tap-to-pay credentials are security-sensitive.
Do not assume every item will return. Restoration depends on whether the item is account-linked, device-bound, provider-controlled, or subject to additional security checks.
Before factory-resetting the old phone
- Confirm you know the Google Account password and can complete two-step verification.
- Record or export transaction information you need.
- Check tickets, loyalty cards, and gift cards for provider-specific recovery instructions.
- Check transit-card balances and transfer rules. Google documents a factory-reset warning for transit passes with stored value on phones running Android 15 and later.
- Move eligible transit cards directly between devices when supported, or follow the transit provider’s instructions.
- Remove payment cards from a phone being sold, returned, donated, or traded in.
A factory reset should be reserved for selling, returning, donating, or fully re-provisioning a phone. It is not a sensible first-line fix for one broken card.

Removing a pass from one phone may not delete it from the account or provider. Some account-linked passes can reappear after you sign in on another device. Airline tickets, event tickets, loyalty programs, and transit products may also be controlled by the provider’s app or website.
IDs, licenses, insurance cards, and other private passes can have separate management and removal rules. If the old phone is unavailable, use the provider’s removal process where available. Government ID passes may require a separate remote-removal procedure.

View Wallet transactions before deleting anything
For transactions associated with one card:
- Open Google Wallet.
- Tap the payment card.
- Tap View more transactions.
To view available Wallet transactions more broadly:
- Open Wallet.
- Tap View more.
- Tap View more transactions.
- Use the search bar.
Google may require identity verification. Wallet may not receive complete purchase details from every merchant, and its records do not replace your bank statement or original receipt. For authoritative amounts, dates, disputes, and refunds, use the bank or card issuer.
Google warns that removing a payment card or pass may cause its visible Wallet transaction history to be lost. Review the record before removal if you may need it later. Google’s transaction guidance explains the limitations.

These privacy controls are not universal. Google says they are rolling out gradually and may be available only in certain locations, including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States. Turning off personalization or Wallet History does not erase every purchase made through other Google services, such as Google Play or YouTube. See Google’s data and privacy guidance.

Delete Google Pay or Wallet activity
Google provides controls to find, export, and delete relevant Google Pay and Wallet information. These actions are different from:
- Removing a card from one device.
- Deleting a saved payment method.
- Removing a pass.
- Deleting a Google payments profile.
- Cancelling a bank card or account with the issuer.
Google documents an auto-delete range of 3 to 36 months for relevant activity controls. Before deleting activity, export or record anything you need. Deleting a payment method can affect activity associated with that method. Use Google’s Google Pay and Wallet information controls for the current deletion options.
Fix tap-to-pay after resetting Wallet
If a card works online but not at a payment terminal, deleting and re-adding it repeatedly is unlikely to solve every cause. Check these items in order:
- NFC: Confirm the phone supports NFC and turn it on. Google’s example path is Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → NFC → Contactless payments, but manufacturers use different labels and locations.
- Default contactless app: Make sure Google Wallet is selected as the default payment app.
- Card setup: Confirm the card is supported and fully verified in Wallet.
- Screen lock: Use a supported PIN, password, pattern, or biometric security method.
- Device certification: Confirm the phone meets Google’s security and certification requirements. Modified software or an uncertified device can prevent contactless payments.
- Unlock requirement: Unlock the phone before paying, unless the payment flow and amount permit otherwise.
- Issuer and country support: Contact the bank if the card or region is not supported.
For the current troubleshooting flow, see Google’s tap-to-pay help page.
When the Wallet website and app disagree
Different screens can represent different layers of the same payment method:
- The Wallet app primarily manages cards and passes on the Android device.
- The Wallet website manages payment methods, device associations, and selected account-level controls.
- The Google payments profile stores payment methods and personal payment-profile information used across Google services.
- Google activity and data controls manage saved activity and certain Wallet or Google Pay data.
- The issuer or pass provider controls replacement cards, transit balances, ticket validity, loyalty accounts, and some deletion options.
A website change may not instantly produce the same result in the app. If a card still appears, check both the device-level Wallet view and the website’s device list before concluding that removal failed.
Some Wallet website features are country-specific. Google documents bank-account controls and eligible virtual card number controls as available only in the United States, and not necessarily for every account. The website’s virtual card number control is also different from the virtual card number displayed in the Wallet app.
