First, check whether Prime is cancelled or still active
These are two different situations. A cancelled membership generally requires you to rejoin manually. An active membership set to renew may continue automatically, so you should verify its status and renewal date rather than starting a new membership.

Amazon’s official India guide says: “As your membership period ends, Amazon automatically renews and charges for the next membership period on your preferred card.” That statement is specific to Amazon’s India guidance; do not assume the same billing details or options apply to every marketplace. - Open Your Prime Membership from the account area.
- Select the rejoin or activation option shown. Amazon’s guide names controls such as Rejoin Amazon Prime and Activate your Prime Membership.
- Choose a saved payment method or add one, then follow the prompts on screen.
The control names and process above are documented for Amazon.in. If you use another marketplace, open its Prime membership page and follow the options shown there; do not assume the labels are identical. If you cannot complete rejoining, contact Amazon customer support through your account.
If Prime is active and you want it to renew
Open your membership page and confirm that the membership is active, whether renewal is enabled, the renewal date displayed, and the payment method associated with the membership. Amazon’s U.S. Prime overview raises the billing-date question but does not establish one universal billing date for all accounts. Your account’s displayed details are the relevant ones to check. Update a payment method or troubleshoot a failed charge
Change saved payment details
For general saved payment methods, go to Your Account > Your Payments. You can add a method or select a saved card to edit its details or billing address. Amazon notes that changing a payment method in the wallet does not update payment details on open orders. Prime payment settings are also available under Manage Your Memberships & Subscriptions. If the renewal charge is declined
- Check that the card details and billing address are correct and the card has not expired.
- Confirm that the payment method supports e-commerce transactions and has available funds.
- Contact the card issuer or try another payment method if needed.
- Check your membership page for the current status and account-specific instructions. Contact Amazon if the issue remains unresolved.
Amazon’s general payment guidance does not establish a universal Prime renewal retry schedule, grace period, or deadline for restoring benefits. A separate Buy with Prime help page describes resuming a membership paused over billing issues by updating payment information, but that guidance applies to a Buy with Prime checkout prompt and is not a complete policy for every Prime membership billing failure. What to verify before you finish
- The Amazon account you are signed into is the one associated with Prime.
- The membership page shows whether your membership is active or cancelled.
- The renewal date and renewal setting shown match what you intend.
- The payment method for the membership is current and usable.
Prime prices, taxes, plan availability, payment methods, billing rules, and screen labels vary by marketplace and account. Use the membership page for your country to confirm the options available to you.
