To use Citi ThankYou Points on Amazon, add an eligible Citi credit card to your Amazon account, then choose that linked card and the ThankYou Points option at checkout when Amazon offers it for the order. Before you place the order, review the points-to-dollar conversion, the number of points applied and any amount still charged to your card.
There is no single Amazon redemption rate that applies to every Citi card or every reward. Citi says point values can vary by card and reward, and participating retailers may allow points to pay all or only part of a purchase. The live checkout screen and the terms for your specific card are therefore the final authority.

What you need before trying to redeem points
The Amazon checkout option appears only when the account, card and order meet the applicable Shop with Points requirements. Gather these items first:
- An Amazon account: You must be signed in to the account where you want to place the order.
- An eligible Citi credit card: The card must earn ThankYou Points and qualify for Citi Shop with Points. Citi describes eligibility by card rather than saying that every Citi card participates. Confirm your card’s terms if you are unsure.
- ThankYou Points in the linked account: The available balance is shown when points are offered at checkout. Do not assume that a pending, restricted or otherwise unavailable balance can be used.
- An eligible Amazon purchase: Citi refers to eligible purchases but does not publish a complete item-by-item list in the cited FAQ. Eligibility is determined by the live offer for the particular order.
- A current account in good standing: Citi’s Shop with Points terms say the online participating-partner account must be current and in good standing. Card-specific terms can add conditions.
Citi’s current ThankYou Reward FAQs say, “You’ll automatically be enrolled in Shop with Points when you add your eligible Citi credit card to your Amazon account.” Read the FAQ at Citi’s ThankYou Reward FAQs and the agreement supplied with your card before redeeming.

How to link your Citi card to Amazon
- Sign in to Amazon. Use the account that will place the order. If your household uses more than one Amazon account, add the card to the correct one.
- Open Amazon’s payment-method settings. Go to the area where you add or manage credit and debit cards, then choose the option to add a new card.
- Enter the eligible Citi card details. Use the card number and billing information exactly as they appear on the Citi account. A mismatch can prevent the card from being recognized or authorized.
- Save the card to the account. According to Citi, adding an eligible card automatically enrolls the eligible cardmember in Shop with Points. You do not need to enroll through a separate generic rewards portal for this Amazon connection.
- Check that the card is available as a payment choice. If Amazon does not accept the card, does not display it in the wallet or shows an enrollment message, stop and verify eligibility and account details before placing an order.
Adding a card does not guarantee that every future order will qualify. It activates the participation pathway; Amazon still evaluates each order and Citi’s terms continue to govern the card and points.
How to apply ThankYou Points at Amazon checkout
- Add an eligible item to your cart and proceed to checkout. Sign in to the Amazon account containing the linked Citi card.
- Choose the linked Citi card as the payment card. The points choice is associated with the eligible card, not merely with any card in your Amazon wallet.
- Look for the Shop with Points or ThankYou Points choice. Amazon may show a control, checkbox, radio button or similar prompt. The exact wording and placement can change by device, region, order type and account.
- Select points only if Amazon presents the offer for that purchase. If the option is absent, do not infer that a different item, card or manual code will make the order eligible. Use the troubleshooting checks below.
- Review the redemption details. Confirm the number of points used, the dollar amount they cover, the remaining card charge and any minimum redemption or fee disclosed on the screen.
- Submit the order only after checking the final total. The order-review page is the last practical point to cancel or change the redemption before the purchase is authorized.
Citi’s FAQ says points may be used for eligible purchases and that participating retailers may permit points to cover all or part of a purchase. It does not promise that Amazon will offer a split payment on every order, so rely on the amount displayed for your checkout.
How much are Citi ThankYou Points worth on Amazon?
Citi does not establish one universal Amazon value for every ThankYou account. Its FAQ states, “Citi ThankYou Point values may vary depending on your Citi credit card and the reward.” The applicable conversion is the one Amazon and Citi display for your card and order at the time of redemption.
Do not calculate the purchase using an old cents-per-point figure found in a forum, an outdated card guide or another cardmember’s account. Even if two people buy the same product, their offers can differ because the card, reward and terms differ.

If you want to evaluate the offer, divide the dollar amount covered by the number of points used, then multiply by 100 to express the result as cents per point. For example, if the screen says 10,000 points cover $80, the displayed value is 0.8 cent per point. That calculation describes only that offer; it is not a permanent Citi or Amazon rate.

Can points pay for the whole Amazon order?
Sometimes, but not always. Citi says participating retailers may allow ThankYou Points to pay for all or part of a purchase. Amazon’s checkout will show whether the points can cover the complete eligible amount or whether a balance remains on the Citi card.
When points cover the full eligible amount
If the redemption control lets you apply enough points to reduce the eligible total to zero, review the order summary carefully. Shipping, tax, digital content, subscriptions, marketplace charges or other components may be treated differently from the item price. Only the final summary tells you what the points actually cover.
When a card charge remains
A partial redemption is normal when the available points, the permitted redemption increment or the order’s eligibility does not cover the entire total. Confirm the exact remaining amount before submitting the order. Your Citi card must remain valid and authorized for that balance.
When a split payment is not offered
If Amazon displays points but does not let you choose a partial amount, the order may require an all-or-nothing redemption or may have a partner-defined limit. Do not assume that entering a smaller number manually will work; use only the controls Amazon provides.
Why the points option may be missing
The absence of a ThankYou Points control does not by itself identify one specific problem. Check the following causes in order:

- The Citi card is not eligible. Citi’s program is limited to eligible cards. A card that carries the Citi name may not earn ThankYou Points or participate in Shop with Points.
- The card was added to a different Amazon account. Sign out and confirm the account currently used for checkout.
- The card details or billing address do not match. Remove and re-add the card only after verifying the information in your Citi account.
- The order or item is not eligible. Citi’s FAQ refers to eligible purchases without listing every exclusion. Try the option shown for the specific order rather than assuming all Amazon merchandise qualifies.
- The card or account is not in good standing. Citi’s Shop with Points terms require the participating-partner account to be current and in good standing. Resolve any restriction with Citi before retrying.
- The points are unavailable. A balance that is pending, restricted or otherwise not posted may not be offered for redemption.
- The offer changed. Citi says reward levels and conversion rates may change. A previous checkout or an old explanation may no longer match the current offer.
- A temporary Amazon or Citi error occurred. Refresh the checkout, try the Amazon website if you are using an app (or the reverse), and check again later without placing an order until the payment summary is clear.
If the option remains missing, contact Citi using the number on the back of the card and Amazon support through the account’s help tools. Give them the card type, the Amazon account status and the order details; never send a full card number in an email or public support message.

Shop with Points is governed by both Citi’s program terms and the terms attached to the particular card. Citi’s Shop with Points language says a participating-partner account must be current and in good standing. It also says Citi or a partner may impose a minimum redemption or a fee and disclose that condition at redemption. Look for that disclosure on the checkout screen rather than assuming that every redemption is free or has no minimum.
The conversion rate is not locked permanently. Citi’s terms state that reward levels may change, and the point-to-dollar conversion can change as well. A rate shown on an earlier purchase, in a saved browser page or in a third-party article is not evidence of the rate offered today.
For a card-specific answer, read the agreement and benefit terms attached to that card. Examples of Citi’s published terms include the Citi Double Cash ThankYou terms and the Citi Premier terms. Those documents illustrate why a rule for one card should not be generalized to another.

- The selected payment card is the eligible Citi card you intended to use.
- The ThankYou Points option is visibly selected, not merely displayed as an available feature.
- The points debit and the dollar credit are both shown.
- The remaining card charge matches what you expect, including tax, shipping and other order components.
- Any minimum redemption, fee or special condition is disclosed and acceptable.
- You have checked the card’s current terms if the redemption value or eligibility is different from a previous purchase.
Take a screenshot or save the order confirmation if you need a record of the points and card amount applied. The confirmation should be your reference for the completed transaction, while the checkout page is the place to decide whether the offer is worthwhile.

Amazon checkout is a point-of-sale redemption: points reduce the cost of an eligible order immediately. Citi may also present other redemption methods for a particular card, such as a statement credit. The useful comparison is not a universal rate but the value and conditions shown for your account at the moment you redeem.

Citi’s Citi Double Cash redemption information is an example of a card-specific redemption page. Do not assume that an option or value described there applies to a different Citi card. Compare the reader-visible value, timing and restrictions for the card actually holding the points.
What to do if an order or redemption goes wrong
The order was placed with the wrong payment choice
Check Amazon’s order details immediately. If the order can still be canceled, cancel it before placing a replacement with the intended points selection. If cancellation is unavailable, contact Amazon through the order’s help flow and Citi through the number on the card; neither service can be assumed to retroactively convert a completed purchase.

The points balance looks incorrect
Compare the pre-order balance with the redemption amount and the post-order balance shown by Citi. Allow for normal posting delays, then ask Citi to investigate if the debit does not match the Amazon confirmation. Keep the confirmation and the order number available.

The card was charged more than expected
First separate the amount paid with points from the remaining card charge in the Amazon order summary. Check whether tax, shipping, subscriptions or another order component was outside the eligible amount. If the charge still differs from the confirmation, contact Amazon for the order calculation and Citi for the points transaction.
The redemption value changed between attempts
Do not place the order based on the earlier value. Re-read the current checkout disclosure and your card terms, because Citi allows reward levels and conversion rates to change.

Support can resolve an account-specific issue faster when the question is precise:

- Is this exact Citi card enrolled and eligible for Shop with Points?
- Is the Amazon account linked to the correct cardmember account?
- Is this order type eligible, and which portion of the total qualifies?
- What points-to-dollar value was applied to this redemption?
- Was a minimum redemption or fee applied?
- Was the points debit completed, reversed or placed on hold?
Use only official account channels and the contact details printed on your card or displayed after signing in. Citi and Amazon can verify account records that a general article cannot.
Bottom line: verify the live offer, not an old rate
Link an eligible Citi ThankYou card to Amazon, select that card at checkout and choose ThankYou Points when Amazon makes the option available for the order. Then confirm the points used, the dollars covered and any remaining card charge before submitting the purchase. Because eligibility, conversion value, minimums, fees and split-payment rules can depend on the card, reward and order, the live checkout disclosure and your current card agreement matter more than any fixed rate quoted elsewhere.
