To recover an existing Robinhood account, start at the official login screen and choose the help option that matches the problem: password, account email, phone or SMS access, a new device, or suspected unauthorized activity. Do not start a new application to get back into an existing account. The steps below reflect Robinhood’s U.S.-oriented help guidance; available support routes and account features can vary by country and account type.
Start with the right recovery route
Robinhood’s login screen is the safest starting point. In the app or on robinhood.com, choose Log in, then select Help or I need help and the option that describes your issue. The login guidance is at Robinhood’s “I can’t log in” page.
- Forgot your password: use the password-reset option if you can access the email on the account.
- Forgot or cannot access your email: choose I forgot my email and follow the identity-verification flow.
- Cannot receive a text or changed phone numbers: select Need help? at the verification screen and choose another method if offered.
- Suspect someone else has access: treat it as a security incident and contact Robinhood immediately.
- Closed the account previously: ask about reactivation rather than submitting a duplicate application.
If you forgot your password but can access your email
- On the official login screen, select Help and the password-reset option.
- Enter the email address associated with the account and follow the reset email’s instructions. Robinhood says reset links expire after one hour, so request a fresh one from the login screen if the link has expired. Details: Robinhood’s password-reset guidance.
- If the message does not arrive, confirm the address, check spam or junk, search your inbox for Robinhood or “password reset,” refresh, and request another link.
- Create a new password rather than reusing the old one. If the reset does not seem to take effect, Robinhood suggests reopening the app or browser, disconnecting a VPN or proxy, clearing cached data, checking for typos, and allowing 10–15 minutes for email systems to process the reset.
If you forgot the account email or cannot open that inbox
From the app’s login screen, select I need help, then I forgot my email. Robinhood’s recovery flow may ask for your date of birth and Social Security number, offer an SMS challenge, and request the front and back of a government-issued ID plus a live, three-point selfie. The exact checks depend on the flow. Robinhood reviews submissions; providing documents does not guarantee instant access or approval.
Choose Log in, not Sign up, so you do not accidentally start a new application. Follow the prompts in the official app or site rather than uploading identity documents through a link in an unsolicited message.

If you lost your phone number or cannot receive an SMS
At the sign-in verification screen, select Need help? or I need help and choose another verification method if Robinhood offers one. Depending on the account and flow, options may include approval from a trusted device, a bank verification, a selfie, or a government ID; you may not see every option.
Robinhood’s identity-verification guidance describes alternate checks, and its phone-number instructions explain the route for a number that cannot receive SMS. Once access is restored, update the number in account settings and verify the new number with the one-time text code.
If Robinhood asks you to approve a new device
Robinhood may send a device-approval request to a trusted mobile device when you sign in on a new device or change account information. If the trusted device is unavailable, or you cannot receive the SMS code, use the help option on the verification screen and select another method if one is presented. Some account functions may remain restricted on a new or untrusted device until verification is complete.
If an approval request appears and you did not initiate it, deny it. Then change your password and remove unknown devices using Robinhood’s account-security guidance: two-factor authentication and device verification.
If you suspect your account was compromised
Do not treat suspected unauthorized access as an ordinary password reset. Contact Robinhood through the official app or robinhood.com/contact. If you cannot access the account, Robinhood’s login page says to email [email protected] to request a freeze. A freeze restricts movement into and out of the account, including deposits, withdrawals, and opening new positions; existing assets can still be sold and existing positions closed. See Robinhood’s compromised-account instructions.
Robinhood says it will never ask for your account password or two-factor authentication code. Do not call a number found in search results or social media, and do not disclose credentials to anyone claiming to help. Start support through the official app or contact page. Robinhood says it will contact customers within four business days for follow-up questions and status updates on a compromised-account case; an investigation may take several weeks, so there is no guaranteed recovery time.
Robinhood’s support page describes 24/7 chat and an option to request a callback, with availability depending on the inquiry. It lists 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, for some investing-feature phone support. Because channel eligibility can change, begin at the official contact page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the account was closed
A closed account is a different case from being locked out. Robinhood says a previously approved individual investing account may need reactivation to use the service again; submitting a duplicate application for that account will be rejected. For other account types, contact Support to ask about the applicable process. See Robinhood’s account-closure guidance.
