SPBYCAP is the Bloomberg ticker for the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Construction Index’s ARS price-return version. It tracks eligible Argentine-listed companies classified in specified construction-related industries, with each company’s influence based on its float-adjusted market capitalization. It is a benchmark index—not, by itself, a security you can buy.

What the index covers

S&P Dow Jones Indices describes the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Construction Index as a measure of stocks in the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index that fall within construction-related Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) industries. The word “construction” therefore covers more than companies that build structures: eligibility is determined by industry classification.

The methodology names five eligible GICS sub-industries:

  • Construction Materials
  • Forest Products
  • Building Products
  • Construction & Engineering
  • Homebuilding

The parent index also sets a boundary. S&P says the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index covers domestic stocks listed on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange that traded on at least 20% of trading days in the preceding 12 months. The construction index is the qualifying subset of that universe, not a list of every company associated with construction in Argentina. How to interpret its weighting

The methodology says, “The indices are FMC weighted.” FMC means float-adjusted market capitalization weighting. In practical terms, a company’s weight reflects its market value adjusted for shares available to investors, rather than giving every constituent an equal share of the index. A higher-weight constituent can have more influence on the index’s movement than a lower-weight constituent.

This weighting method does not mean the index is broadly diversified. In S&P’s snapshot dated September 14, 2026, the largest constituent represented 82.5% of the index. That is a dated observation, not a current or permanent weight; constituent prices and index composition can change. S&P index page · S&P/BYMA Indices Methodology

SPBYCAP, SPBYCAT and return types

S&P lists two ARS versions with different return treatments. SPBYCAP is the price-return ticker; SPBYCAT is the total-return ticker. The methodology says price-return versions are calculated without adjustment for regular cash dividends. As a result, a price-return figure and a total-return figure are not interchangeable when comparing performance.

Ticker Currency and return type What to note
SPBYCAP ARS price return Not adjusted for regular cash dividends, according to S&P’s methodology.
SPBYCAT ARS total return S&P lists this as the total-return version; consult the methodology for index calculation details.

Both tickers identify index versions; they do not establish that the index itself is a tradable security. The official materials identify index data and methodology, but do not establish that a fund tracks SPBYCAP. S&P index page · S&P/BYMA Indices Methodology

How to read the published figures

S&P’s performance snapshot was labeled “As of Sep 14, 2026.” It reported six constituents, a 32,170.31 ARS index level, a 36.87% one-year price return, and a -23.13% year-to-date price return. These are observations for that date, not live figures for October 7, 2026 or later.

For any index level, return, constituent count or constituent weight, keep the as-of date attached to the number. Values can change; check S&P’s index page or BYMA’s historical series for the date and data you need. S&P index page · BYMA historical data

What to check when comparing SPBYCAP

Before comparing it with another benchmark or with its own results over a different period, align the comparison on:

  • Return type: Compare price return with price return, or total return with total return.
  • Currency: The tickers described here are ARS versions; ensure the other figure uses a comparable currency basis.
  • Measurement dates: Use matching start and end dates, and label each observation’s as-of date.
  • Constituent scope: SPBYCAP is a construction-related slice of the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index, not the broader parent index.
  • Concentration: Review the current constituent weights rather than assuming the index’s constituents contribute equally.

S&P’s methodology explains eligibility and calculation, while its dated index information provides a snapshot of composition and performance. Use both when assessing what the benchmark represents. S&P index page · S&P/BYMA Indices Methodology
