Some casinos may use facial recognition or other biometric identification, but the available regulator materials do not establish how common it is or show that every casino uses it. Surveillance cameras and biometric identification are not the same thing: a camera can record video without identifying people through facial analysis. To learn what a particular operator does, check its current privacy notice and ask its privacy contact rather than inferring practice from the presence of cameras.

Look for the casino operator’s privacy notice on its website or app. Review the categories of information collected, why it is collected, whether it is shared, how long it is retained, and how to submit privacy requests. Pay special attention to whether the policy discusses biometric data, facial imagery, surveillance, security, loyalty accounts, payment information, and vendors.

If the notice is unclear, contact the operator’s privacy office or customer-service channel and ask these questions:
- Does the casino use facial recognition or another form of biometric identification?
- Are images analyzed only in real time, or are images or biometric templates retained?
- What purposes does the operator rely on, and what is its stated legal basis?
- Can biometric information be linked to a loyalty account, payment record, or security record?
- Which service providers or other third parties receive the information?
- How long are images and derived biometric data retained?
- Can you request access, correction, or deletion, or opt out of any uses? If so, how?
Keep a copy of the notice and the response you receive, including the date. Policies and practices can change, so an older answer may not describe the operator’s current process.

What Nevada and federal guidance does—and does not—establish
Nevada gaming-system safeguards
The Nevada Gaming Control Board says licensees must assess the collection, maintenance, and transmission of sensitive patron information and establish documented safeguards for gaming systems approved by the Board’s Technology Division. Nevada biometric-data provisions
Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 603A defines biometric data to include facial imagery and other physiological or behavioral characteristics capable of identifying a person. The chapter also addresses security and consumer privacy, but its scope rules and exceptions mean the duties and rights in a particular situation depend on the operator, data, applicable section, and facts. Federal Trade Commission guidance
In a May 2023 policy statement, the FTC described potential privacy, data-security, bias, and discrimination concerns raised by biometric technologies. It said that when evaluating potentially unfair practices, the agency may consider matters such as foreseeable-harm assessments, unexpected collection, vendor evaluation, and ongoing monitoring. This is agency guidance and enforcement policy, not a finding about any named casino. The FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection director, Samuel Levine, said biometric surveillance had grown “more sophisticated and pervasive,” in the context of the agency’s broader consumer-protection concerns. An earlier 2012 FTC staff report recommended practices for certain uses of facial recognition, including notice and choice in some examples. Ways to limit optional data collection
- Decide whether to join a loyalty program. Enrollment may involve sharing identifying and preference information. Read the terms and privacy notice first, and provide only requested information you are comfortable sharing.
- Review optional profile fields and account connections. Avoid adding optional details or linking accounts unless you understand how the operator uses them.
- Check app permissions and personalization settings. Consider disabling app-based location access or personalization features you do not need, while recognizing that this affects those app functions and does not stop camera surveillance.
- Use the operator’s stated privacy-request channel. If the notice provides a process to access, correct, delete, or opt out of certain information uses, follow it and keep a record of the request and response.
What not to rely on
Do not assume that a mask, hat, camera blocker, or generic privacy device will prevent a casino from recognizing or recording you. The reviewed evidence does not identify a physical consumer product that reliably defeats facial recognition or changes a casino’s data practices. Nor does declining a rewards account establish that a casino will stop camera surveillance.
When to seek jurisdiction-specific help
If the operator does not answer your questions, or you want to understand a possible privacy right, consult the regulator or privacy authority for the jurisdiction where the casino operates. A qualified local attorney can assess how the specific law and facts apply. Whether a particular legal right or remedy exists cannot be determined from the casino’s location alone or from a general description of biometric laws.
