Follow the bank’s check-order link, verify the printed details and delivery address, then review the current price and shipping estimate before submitting. Banks use different providers and offer different order methods, so follow the route your bank specifies for your account.
How to order checks through your bank
- Sign in through your bank. Use its official website or app and select the checking account for which you need checks. Some banks require an extra account-verification step before sending you to a check provider. U.S. Bank, for example, describes account selection and a one-time passcode before redirection to its provider (U.S. Bank’s ordering instructions).
- Follow the bank’s check-order link. The provider depends on the bank: U.S. Bank identifies Deluxe as its official provider, as do Santander and Citizens for their respective customers, while PNC routes online customers to Harland Clarke (U.S. Bank; Santander; Citizens; PNC). Do not assume a provider or direct website is approved for every bank account.
- Check the imprint and order information. Confirm the printed name and address, routing number, account number, starting check number, design, shipping address, and order summary. Citizens notes that name or address changes may require help by phone or at a branch; U.S. Bank says its order details cannot be changed after placement (Citizens; U.S. Bank).
- Review the checkout details before submitting. Compare the displayed cost, any available discounts, shipping choices, and estimated arrival date. Chase says its online order flow displays cost and available discounts; U.S. Bank says price varies by design, customization, and quantity (Chase; U.S. Bank).
How long mailed checks take
Delivery estimates are bank-specific, not a universal promise. U.S. Bank says most check orders arrive within 7–14 business days, with timing varying and faster shipping potentially available at checkout (U.S. Bank). PNC asks customers to allow 7–10 business days for an online order to process and ship (PNC). Santander gives a 7–10 business-day estimate for initial checks and deposit tickets after opening an account with the bank; that estimate applies to the new-account situation it describes (Santander).

Use the estimate shown in your bank’s current order flow or confirmation, especially if you need checks by a particular date. These figures are service estimates published by the individual banks, not independently measured delivery results.
What to do if you cannot order online
Check your bank’s instructions for ordering by phone or at a branch. Banks offer different combinations of online, provider-assisted, phone, and in-person ordering; use the options listed for your account rather than assuming every method is available. If the printed name or address needs updating, Citizens says that may require phone or branch assistance (Citizens).

What to compare before placing an order
- Ordering route: whether your bank supports ordering in its app or website, sends you to a provider after sign-in, or directs you to phone or branch service.
- Printed information: whether the name and address on file are current and whether you need to contact the bank to change them.
- Price and customization: check the total for your selected design, quantity, and any customization rather than relying on a general price.
- Shipping and timing: review the available delivery choices and estimated arrival date at checkout.
Some banks also offer account-specific reorder features. PNC says eligible customers who have previously ordered checks can receive notice about three months before it predicts they will run out; applicable costs may be deducted from the checking account. This is a PNC feature, not a standard service across banks (PNC).

Use the bank’s verified ordering route and make sure the delivery address is correct before submitting. Chase warns that checks can be targets for theft and alteration (Chase). The U.S. Postal Inspection Service notes that a counterfeit check may take weeks to be discovered and returned unpaid (U.S. Postal Inspection Service). If an order does not arrive when expected or you suspect it was compromised, contact your bank promptly for account-specific guidance.
