Check eligibility and prepare before you sign up
Review Revolut’s rules for your country of residence before starting. For example, Revolut’s US getting-started guidance says applicants must be over 18 and legal residents of a supported country. Its UK guidance says some UK residents aged 16 or 17 can open an account, although some products are unavailable to them. These are market-specific examples, not a universal age rule: check the applicable local terms and US or UK guidance.
Have a working mobile number and email address ready. Revolut’s US guidance also lists your full name, current address, date of birth, citizenship, a valid government-issued identity document, and a selfie. Depending on your country or circumstances, Revolut may ask additional questions about you or the purpose of the account. Its UK personal-data checklist also mentions country of residence, possible video or voice recordings where permitted by law, and occupation or tax details when required. Additional information may be needed for particular products.
Revolut says personal accounts can be opened and used at no cost on its US page; paid plans are optional there. That statement is US-specific, so check the current terms for your market.

Open the account in the Revolut app
- Install and open the Revolut app, then begin the signup flow.
- Enter the contact and personal details requested, including your phone number, email, and residence information.
- Follow the prompts to select your nationality and an available identity-document type, then capture your document and selfie as requested.
- Submit any additional information requested in the app. The exact fields and checks can vary by market and applicant.
How to upload an identity document
Use the document types offered in the app for your nationality; available choices can differ. Revolut’s UK upload instructions give this route for users who need to access identity verification from their account: Profile > Account > Personal details > Verify my identity. Follow the prompts in the signup flow if you are verifying during initial registration.
- Choose a valid, unexpired document.
- For a live photo, fit the document inside the on-screen frame and keep all four corners visible.
- Check that the image is clear and readable before confirming and continuing.
- Complete the selfie step when the app requests it.
These capture instructions come from Revolut’s UK document-upload guidance. The document options shown in your own app take precedence. Revolut’s reviewed onboarding pages do not establish one verification duration that applies to every applicant, so do not rely on a guaranteed processing time.

What to do if Revolut asks for proof of address
Proof of address is not necessarily a separate step for every applicant. If Revolut requests it, use the current in-app instructions and the accepted-document rules for your market. For the US, Revolut lists examples including bank statements showing actual transactions, credit-card statements, specified utility bills, signed house purchase or lease documents, government correspondence, some benefit receipts, medical correspondence, and identity documents that show the address.
The US list excludes mobile-service bills and Revolut account statements. These examples and exclusions are specific to Revolut’s US proof-of-address guidance; do not assume the same list applies in another country.

If Revolut asks you to confirm details later
Identity checks can continue after signup. Revolut says it may contact existing US users by email or show an in-app banner asking them to confirm personal details. Its US guidance on later document requests warns that missing the stated deadline may lead to temporary account restrictions. This is a possible account-review request, not an extra step required of every new applicant.

Revolut’s US privacy notice says it uses personal data to check identity as part of Know Your Customer processes. It may use facial-scan data extracted from submitted photos or videos for onboarding, authentication, or fraud prevention where required. For details about how information is handled, consult the current US privacy notice and the notice applicable to your country.
