These 15 options range from simple transport jobs to seasonal services. Treat advertised platform rates as provider claims, not guaranteed earnings, and calculate your costs before deciding what to offer.
15 ways to earn money with a pickup truck
These ideas are not equally easy or suitable for every vehicle. Before taking a job, check your truck’s payload and towing ratings, the load’s size and weight, and whether you can secure and handle it safely.
1. Remove junk and bulky items
Pick up permitted household items and take them to an appropriate reuse, recycling, or disposal destination. Confirm what the facility accepts and what it charges before quoting. EasyGig describes jobs involving curbside furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics, and other bulky items, but excludes hazardous materials, chemicals, and medical waste. Its estimate that a typical haul takes about 45 minutes to one hour, including driving, loading, and disposal, is EasyGig’s own description—not a general industry benchmark. EasyGig also says dump fees are reimbursed when a receipt from an approved location is submitted. See EasyGig’s job details.
2. Make dump runs
Transport customer-approved loads to a suitable disposal or recycling site. Ask about accepted materials, operating hours, and fees first. Include the round trip, loading time, and disposal charge in your quote rather than treating the drive as the only work.

3. Take small moving jobs
Offer to move a limited number of boxes or furniture pieces for customers who do not need a full-size moving crew. Agree on the item list, stairs, distance, lifting help, and timing before accepting. Taskrabbit includes apartment moves and labor-only tasks among its Delivery services; actual tasks and eligibility depend on location and current platform requirements.
4. Deliver furniture or appliances
Some large purchases will not fit in a standard car. Clarify access, stairs, assembly, and whether a second person is needed. Do not accept a load that exceeds your truck’s capacity or cannot be secured safely.
5. Pick up marketplace purchases
People buying furniture or other bulky goods locally may need help getting an item from the seller to their home. Confirm the item’s dimensions, pickup and delivery addresses, who will help load it, and what happens if the seller or buyer is unavailable.

6. Do store deliveries through a platform
Taskrabbit Delivery lists store deliveries, apartment moves, labor-only work, and junk haul-away. Its page says Helpers may drive a pickup truck, box truck, cargo van, or SUV with trailer; onboarding includes vehicle and insurance verification for Helpers and a background check. Taskrabbit advertises average earnings of $50 per hour for Helpers and $35 per hour for Hands. Those are Taskrabbit’s own figures, not independently measured market averages or guaranteed pay. Check local availability and current terms at Taskrabbit Delivery.
7. Accept delivery jobs through an on-demand app
GoShare describes a model in which drivers receive delivery alerts, choose whether to accept a job, complete it, and receive payment within four business days. The company advertises up to $60 per hour average earnings for pickup trucks; “up to” is a provider claim, not a promise of what you will earn. GoShare also says deliveries booked through its platform are covered by its cargo insurance policy. Review the current coverage terms and exclusions, vehicle requirements, and service area before relying on the app. See GoShare’s driver information.
8. Deliver for local businesses
Ask nearby businesses whether they need local delivery for goods that fit your truck, such as furniture or supplies. Start with a clear service area and delivery scope. A repeat arrangement may be more useful than isolated trips, but whether businesses need the service varies by market.

9. Help realtors prepare homes for sale
Realtors and property sellers may need help with cleanouts, moving, or delivering items while preparing a home for sale. Housecall Pro identifies realtor prep and cleanout support as potential sources of repeat work. Agree on what is being moved or removed and where it is going before starting.
10. Provide landscaping or lawn-care support
Use the truck to transport equipment, green waste, or materials as part of landscaping or lawn-care work. The work depends on local demand, season, and the equipment and skills you can provide; a pickup alone does not make it a landscaping business.
11. Deliver landscaping materials
Deliver suitable quantities of materials to local customers or contractors, only within your payload and securement limits. Confirm the material, amount, drop-off location, and unloading plan in advance.

12. Offer seasonal snow removal
Snow removal may make sense where there is seasonal demand and you have a suitable truck and equipment setup. Requirements and insurance needs can vary. Do not assume a plow or other equipment is a low-cost first step; first establish that local demand and the setup’s costs justify it.
13. Start a pressure-washing service
A pickup can carry pressure-washing equipment, but the service also requires the right equipment, operating skill, and appropriate water-management practices. Check local requirements and insurance before taking jobs.
14. Provide handyman or contractor support
Transport tools and materials or offer services you are qualified to perform. A truck can support trade work, but it does not qualify you to perform it. Check applicable licensing, permit, and insurance requirements for the work and location.

15. Take seasonal installation or exterior-service jobs
Christmas-light installation is one seasonal service identified in Jobber’s guide to pickup-truck work. It requires safe access, installation skills, and demand at the right time of year; the truck is useful for carrying supplies, not a substitute for those requirements. See Jobber’s guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose an idea that fits
Instead of assuming one service is the most profitable, compare the options against your own market, vehicle, and constraints.
- Local demand: Look for nearby customers and enough work to make travel worthwhile. Demand varies by market.
- Truck and load fit: Check payload, bed dimensions, towing capability, and securement needs against the actual job. Housecall Pro recommends matching a service to both truck capacity and local demand.
- Costs: Include fuel, maintenance and repairs, insurance, equipment, disposal fees, permits or licensing, trailer costs if relevant, any helper’s labor, and taxes.
- Risk and requirements: Check local rules and your insurance before doing work with specific permit, liability, or coverage requirements. Towing and freight, for example, may involve substantially different equipment, licensing, insurance, or experience needs than basic local delivery.
- Seasonality and repeat work: Snow removal and seasonal installation depend on the calendar. Local-business deliveries, realtor support, and recurring services may offer repeat opportunities, but no particular volume is assured.
- How you will find customers: Compare platform onboarding and local task availability with direct outreach and relationships with nearby businesses. The better channel depends on your location and service.
Equipment and safe loading basics
Some pickup services call for basic equipment such as straps, a tarp, gloves, or a dolly. For bulky deliveries, securement equipment such as cargo tie-down or ratchet straps can help keep a load in place; a furniture dolly can assist with moving items. Choose gear appropriate for the load and vehicle, and use suitable lifting help. Owning equipment does not make an oversized load or unsafe lift safe. Housecall Pro discusses basic gear in its pickup-truck service guide; Jobber also notes load-security equipment for bulky delivery work.
How to get started and price jobs
- Check your truck’s limits. Review the manufacturer’s payload and towing ratings, then define the loads and services your particular truck can handle.
- Check disposal logistics. If offering junk removal or dump runs, ask local facilities what they accept, when they are open, and what they charge.
- Check insurance and local requirements. Ask your insurer how the proposed work is covered and check licensing, permits, and business requirements in your jurisdiction.
- Compare customer channels. Check one or two platforms for current service areas, vehicle qualifications, screening, available tasks, and insurance terms. Taskrabbit and GoShare are examples, not guarantees of local availability.
- Build a full-cost quote. Account for drive time, fuel, labor, supplies, disposal, maintenance, insurance, taxes, and any platform terms. Track completed jobs and actual costs so you can see whether the work is worthwhile.
- Start narrow and expand from evidence. Begin with a service that fits your truck and local demand. Add equipment or consider a trailer only when completed jobs show that the investment is needed.
What pickup-truck earnings claims do—and do not—tell you
Taskrabbit’s advertised average hourly figures and GoShare’s “up to” figure are claims made by the platforms themselves. They are not a universal earnings estimate, independent study, or take-home profit calculation. Your result depends on available jobs, time spent driving and loading, expenses, platform terms, and taxes. Compare your own revenue with your own costs rather than treating a headline rate as net pay.
