Maintain a robot vacuum by regularly emptying its bin, clearing hair and debris from its brushes, cleaning the filter as its manual allows, and gently wiping its sensors as directed. The right cleaning and replacement schedule varies by model: use the care chart or app for your exact robot rather than treating any one manufacturer’s timetable as universal.
How to clean a robot vacuum
- Turn off or pause the robot. Follow the model’s manual for safely accessing and removing parts.
- Empty the dustbin. Do this as directed for your model, especially if the vacuum is leaving debris behind.
- Clear the brushes. Remove the main or side brush only as instructed. Pull away wrapped hair and debris, including material caught at the brush ends, then reinstall the parts securely. Roborock’s S5 instructions recommend using a tool to cut hair caught at brush edges: Roborock S5 brush-cleaning instructions.
- Clean the filter according to its care instructions. Some filters should not be washed; for example, iRobot says not to wash the Roomba s Series filter. Check your own model’s instructions before using water or another cleaning method.
- Wipe the sensors gently. Use the material and method specified for your model. Roborock’s S5 guidance calls for a dry, lint-free cloth; do not assume the same method applies to every robot or sensor.
- Check for wear and reassemble. Refit removed parts as directed. Use the app or care chart to check cleaning intervals, replacement reminders, and signs that a component needs replacing.
How often to clean and replace parts
Manufacturer schedules are model-specific examples, not a shared calendar for all robot vacuums. The following published guidance illustrates how much intervals can vary.

What to check when pickup drops
If the vacuum is collecting less debris than usual, start with the bin, filter, and brushes. iRobot’s Roomba s Series support advises: “If you notice the robot picking up less debris from your floor, empty the bin, clean the filter and clean the brushes.” If basic care does not resolve the problem, consult the model’s error guidance or contact its manufacturer; there is no single diagnostic sequence established for every robot vacuum.

How to choose compatible replacement parts
Filters and brushes are not necessarily interchangeable across models. Find the vacuum’s model number, then use its manufacturer compatibility guidance before ordering a replacement. eufy’s accessory page provides purchase links, while iRobot directs owners to official or authorized sources.
