The right step depends on whether the cap applies to a linked bank account’s UPI payments, PhonePe Wallet, UPI Lite or a linked credit line. Check the payment method and exact error message first: some caps are app settings, while others are set by the bank, PhonePe, NPCI or applicable rules—and an increase is not guaranteed.
First identify which PhonePe limit you’ve reached
PhonePe’s UPI terms say transaction limits may be set by PhonePe, the user, the issuer, other payment participants or applicable law. A declined payment therefore does not, by itself, show that PhonePe can raise the cap. The payment source and the message shown in the app help identify who controls it.

How to address a bank-account UPI limit
If you are paying directly from a linked bank account, note whether the app indicates a per-transaction cap, a daily cap or another account restriction. PhonePe’s terms allow limits to come from the bank and other participants, and do not promise a universal increase option.
- Check the payment source and error message. Confirm the payment is coming from the bank account rather than Wallet or UPI Lite, and record the wording of the decline.
- Contact the linked bank. Ask whether the restriction is set by the bank, whether it is per transaction or cumulative, and whether your account qualifies for a change.
- Follow the bank’s account-specific process, if it offers one. The bank’s current rules and eligibility decision determine whether a limit can change.
Changing your UPI PIN or reinstalling PhonePe is not an established way to increase a bank-set limit. PhonePe’s published terms do not support those as limit-increase steps.

How to increase a PhonePe Wallet limit
Change a cap you set yourself
PhonePe’s Wallet terms say users can change their transaction cap in the app. Check the Wallet settings for the cap and adjust it if that is the limit blocking the payment. This changes only a user-set cap; it does not override Wallet category limits or PhonePe’s risk controls. The exact app labels may vary, so use the current Wallet settings rather than relying on an outdated menu path. PhonePe Wallet terms
Check Full KYC eligibility if the Wallet category is the constraint
PhonePe says eligible users may apply for or upgrade to a Full KYC Wallet through its process and provide the required documents. Its terms specify Aadhaar, PAN and KYC compliance for eligibility, subject to the process and rules in effect. Check the PhonePe app for your current eligibility and instructions; submitting documents does not guarantee approval or a particular usable limit. PhonePe may also apply risk-based restrictions. Published PhonePe limits for Small PPI Wallet and UPI Lite
These figures are specific product terms, not general UPI bank-account limits. PhonePe’s Wallet terms list the following for a Small PPI Wallet:
- Monthly loading: ₹10,000.
- Annual loading: ₹1,20,000 per financial year.
- Maximum balance: ₹10,000.
- Funds may be used for goods and services, but not fund transfers or cash withdrawals.
PhonePe’s UPI terms list these separate UPI Lite limits and say NPCI may modify them:

What to do if the limit is on a linked credit line
Ask the institution that issued the credit line about its eligibility criteria and account-specific credit limit. PhonePe’s UPI terms state that PhonePe has no role in determining eligibility or defining that limit; the app enables linking and displays issuer-provided details. PhonePe UPI terms

Don’t confuse authentication limits with payment limits
PhonePe has described biometric authentication for UPI payments up to ₹5,000. That figure concerns authentication—not a general increase to your UPI transaction cap. It does not change the limit set by your bank or other payment participants. PhonePe’s biometric-authentication announcement
