How to Increase eCommerce Sales in 2026: 9 Proven Strategies

To increase eCommerce sales profitably in 2026, find the biggest leak in your customer journey before spending more on ads. Revenue depends on qualified traffic, conversion rate, average order value (AOV), and purchase frequency—but sales growth is only healthy when contribution margin, returns, and acquisition costs hold up too.

Use the nine strategies below to match action to the problem: first establish reliable measurement, then improve discovery, product pages, mobile shopping, checkout, retention, order value, acquisition, and customer trust. “Proven” means these are established levers with measurable business logic—not that every store will get the same result.

Start by finding where sales are leaking

Before changing the site or buying more traffic, map the journey from first visit to repeat purchase. A weak result at one stage can make a different tactic ineffective: more ads will not fix a checkout that fails, and a higher conversion rate may not help if discounts and returns erase the margin.

Use a funnel and profit dashboard

  • Sessions by channel, device, landing page, and geography.
  • Product views, add-to-cart rate, cart-to-checkout rate, and checkout completion rate.
  • Conversion rate by landing page and customer segment.
  • AOV and units per transaction.
  • New- versus returning-customer revenue, repeat purchase rate, and time to second order.
  • Customer acquisition cost (CAC) by channel, alongside gross and contribution margin per order.
  • Refund and return rate, stockout rate, and cancellations.
  • Email and SMS revenue, unsubscribes, and deliverability.

Use store and payment records as the financial source of truth, and compare ad-platform reporting with backend orders. Include product cost, shipping subsidies, payment fees, discounts, returns, and advertising when calculating contribution margin. Record site, price, promotion, creative, and fulfillment changes so you can distinguish commercial change from a tracking change. Where practical, use holdouts or geo tests to estimate incrementality rather than relying only on last-click attribution.

(Labels are not compatible with Dymo printers, Brother printers, Laser/Inkjet/Copuer printers)Note: When you using labels, regardless of any printer, printers need to automatically identify labels before printing to avoid abnormal use of goods. (Printing Method: When you using labels, please let the labels side face up)

Match the symptom to the likely bottleneck

What the data shows Likely area to investigate
Plenty of traffic but few product views Navigation, site search, category pages, or landing-page relevance
Product views but few carts Product information, offer, trust, price, or availability
Many carts but few completed orders Shipping disclosure, payment methods, checkout friction, or technical errors
Good first orders but few repeat purchases Product experience, post-purchase communication, replenishment, or retention offers
Orders are growing but profit is weak Discounts, shipping costs, returns, CAC, or product mix
Demand is strong but stockouts are frequent Inventory planning and merchandising

Do not treat one storewide conversion-rate benchmark as a target. Compare your own performance by device, channel, category, geography, and customer segment.

1. Fix measurement and establish a profit baseline

Best for: Stores unsure whether growth is incremental or profitable. Measurement is the first step because unreliable events or attribution can make a tracking change look like a sales win.

What to do

  1. Choose the objective for the next test: contribution profit, profitable new-customer acquisition, repeat revenue, or another defined outcome.
  2. Check that purchase events fire once and carry consistent order ID, currency, value, tax, shipping, and product ID.
  3. Reconcile analytics and ad-platform conversions with store, payment, and order records; separate new and returning customers.
  4. Calculate contribution margin after product cost, shipping subsidy, payment fees, discounts, returns, and advertising.
  5. Set a baseline period and annotate changes to pricing, promotions, creative, site design, and fulfillment.
  6. Use holdouts or geographic tests where possible to assess incremental impact.

For Shopify merchants using Google Ads, Google’s Google & YouTube app guidance identifies an August 26, 2026 deadline for specified measurement and order-status-page changes for non-Plus merchants. This is an integration requirement for that setup, not a universal ecommerce deadline.

Measure: Backend orders, contribution profit per order, CAC, payback, and the difference between platform-reported and store-recorded conversions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Low-cost first check: Place a test order on mobile and desktop; confirm it appears once, with the right order value and currency, in the store and connected reporting systems.

Watch for: A new app or attribution setting can increase reported conversions without adding actual orders. Treat measurement changes separately from commercial results.

2. Make product discovery and merchandising more relevant

Best for: Stores where visitors struggle to find an appropriate product. Better discovery helps qualified shoppers reach the right product without unnecessary searching.

What to improve

  • Organize navigation around customer needs, use cases, and product attributes.
  • Improve search with synonyms, typo tolerance, useful filters, and helpful zero-result pages.
  • Make category pages easy to scan on mobile, with visible price, availability, variants, delivery estimates, and review summaries.
  • Create focused landing pages for high-intent campaigns instead of sending every visitor to the homepage.
  • Show bestsellers, new products, or high-margin items when inventory and customer fit support the choice.
  • Use comparisons and recommendations that reflect compatibility and intent, not merely generic “people also bought” logic.

Measure: Search use and zero-result rate, category-to-product click-through, product views per session, add-to-cart rate, and contribution margin by promoted product.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Low-cost first test: Review onsite search queries and campaign landing pages, then fix the most common failed search or mismatch between an ad promise and its destination.

Watch for: Personalization can hide popular items, overfit to a prior purchase, or surface incompatible or out-of-stock products. Keep recommendations useful and inventory-aware.

KKBESTPACK Half Sheet Shipping Labels for Laser and Inkjet Printers – 2 Per Page Self Adhesive Mailing Labels – White 8.5 x 5.5 (200 Labels) (2LP)
  • White Half Sheet Shipping Labels White matte shipping labels for printing shipping and mailing information on packages and envelopes.
  • Self Adhesive Mailing Labels Self adhesive labels intended for use on cardboard boxes, envelopes, and paper packaging.
  • 2 Labels Per Sheet Format Each US Letter size sheet contains pre-scored half sheet labels.
  • For Laser & Inkjet Printers Label paper compatible with laser and inkjet printers using standard paper settings.
  • Common Shipping and Labeling Uses Suitable for shipping, mailing, package labeling, and general office labeling purposes.

3. Upgrade product pages to answer buying objections

Best for: Product views that do not turn into carts, especially when shoppers need detailed information before committing. A product page should answer the key purchase questions without sending a visitor back to search.

Include the information shoppers need

  • A specific value proposition and clear primary call to action.
  • Total price and clear disclosure of recurring charges, if any.
  • Relevant dimensions, materials, ingredients, compatibility, specifications, or fit information.
  • Multiple high-quality images and a demonstration video when showing the product in use helps explain it.
  • Variant and stock availability, delivery estimate, return terms, and warranty information.
  • Reviews with useful filtering and customer images or videos where appropriate.
  • “What’s included,” product comparisons, and answers drawn from support tickets and onsite search.

Google’s checkout guidance for merchants calls for accurate pricing, consistent currency and language, relevant product information, secure handling of personal information, and a checkout customers can complete. Those are useful trust checks for the product-to-purchase journey too.

Test one clear change at a time

Try a benefit-led headline against a feature-led one, move delivery details closer to the price, or test the placement of reviews, a size guide, or a mobile sticky call to action. For subscriptions, compare the default choice only if the one-time and recurring terms remain unambiguous.

Measure: Add-to-cart and purchase rates alongside return rate, cancellations, discount use, and support contacts.

Watch for: A conversion lift is not a win if it brings more returns, cancellations, or costly service issues.

4. Improve mobile usability and site speed

Best for: Stores with weaker mobile performance or friction on product and checkout pages. Mobile shoppers need to understand the offer and complete the purchase with minimal typing.

Prioritize practical fixes

  • Compress and correctly size images; remove unnecessary third-party scripts and defer nonessential code.
  • Reduce layout shifts and make product galleries reliable on smaller screens.
  • Keep primary actions visible and reachable without obstructing product information.
  • Use mobile-friendly form fields, autofill, and address autocomplete.
  • Test product pages and checkout on real devices and slower cellular connections; monitor Core Web Vitals and checkout errors.

Shopify’s July 2026 ecommerce growth guidance reports that smartphones represented 73% of website traffic and 71% of orders in the data it cites. These are Shopify-attributed figures, not universal benchmarks for every store or category.

Measure: Mobile speed and error metrics, product-page and checkout conversion by device, and contribution profit from mobile orders.

Low-cost first test: Complete a purchase on a mid-range phone over a slower connection; note delays, hard-to-reach controls, and fields that require unnecessary typing.

Watch for: Do not remove useful reviews or functionality to chase an arbitrary speed score, and do not test only on a developer’s high-end device. A chatbot that adds page weight or covers the call to action may worsen the experience.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Remove checkout friction and offer suitable payments

Best for: High add-to-cart activity followed by weak checkout completion. Make the cost and steps clear before the customer is asked to commit.

Reduce avoidable obstacles

  • Allow guest checkout and avoid requiring account creation before purchase.
  • Show shipping costs and delivery estimates early; avoid surprise fees and taxes.
  • Keep forms short, use autofill and address autocomplete, and make error messages specific and persistent.
  • Offer relevant wallets, express checkout, and local payment methods where appropriate.
  • Preserve cart contents after a form error or return from a payment provider.
  • Make returns, refund timing, security, and customer support easy to find.
  • Check that discount-code entry does not distract shoppers or create avoidable errors.

Baymard’s checkout usability research reports a 70.19% global average cart-abandonment rate on its current research page. It also estimates that the average large ecommerce site has 32 checkout improvements available and models an approximately 35% conversion improvement from better checkout UX. That modeled potential is not a forecast or guaranteed lift for an individual merchant. Some shoppers browse, compare, or save items for later; not every abandoned cart is recoverable.

For merchants on Google shopping surfaces, keep listing and website pricing, currency, product information, and checkout availability consistent, and handle payments securely, as described in Google’s merchant checkout requirements.

Measure: Checkout completion, payment failures, abandonment by step, and contribution margin after payment and shipping costs.

Low-cost first test: Identify the largest checkout drop-off or error in your own data, then test one change—such as earlier shipping disclosure or guest checkout—rather than changing the entire flow at once.

6. Build repeat purchases with lifecycle marketing

Best for: Stores with a meaningful post-purchase opportunity, particularly replenishable or complementary products. Email and SMS can bring customers back without buying every visit from an ad platform.

Build useful journeys

  • Welcome and browse-abandonment sequences.
  • Cart or checkout reminders that stop when an order is placed.
  • Post-purchase education, delivery updates, and review requests.
  • Replenishment reminders based on a realistic product-use interval.
  • Compatible cross-sells, back-in-stock alerts, win-back, and loyalty or VIP messages.
  • Subscription renewal reminders and failed-payment recovery where relevant.

Segment by first or repeat purchase, product bought, likely reorder interval, customer value, engagement, geography, consent, discount dependence, product interest, and return or support history. Prioritize utility—care instructions, usage advice, replenishment, and delivery information—not just promotional codes.

Klaviyo’s official pricing page says its free plan includes contact syncing or importing, email and SMS editors, automations, segmentation, and reports. Tool selection should depend on the store’s needs; platform-assigned email revenue is not necessarily incremental.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Measure: Repeat purchase rate, time to second order, incremental revenue from holdouts where possible, unsubscribes, deliverability, and contribution margin after discounts.

Watch for: Avoid sending overlapping email and SMS discounts for one event, messaging customers after they have already bought, ignoring consent or suppression rules, or paying to retain inactive contacts who add no value.

7. Raise AOV with relevant bundles and offers

Best for: Customers who buy one low-margin or low-priced item when useful complements or quantity options exist. A larger basket helps only when the extra gross profit exceeds the associated costs.

JETZAP Pre-Cut 4x6 Shipping Labels | Work on Most Inkjet and Laser Printers | Just Load & Print | USPS UPS FedEx for Home Printers | 120 Pack
  • Discover the simplicity of JETZAP Labels: just load them onto your inkjet or laser printer tray—they're pre-cut! Then follow these three steps: 1) 'JET' (print) 2) 'ZAP' (peel) and 3) 'Label'! It's that easy!
  • Best value/convenience – JETZAP 4x6 Shipping Labels are simply the best value/convenience there is besides an expensive investment in a thermal printer. Why waste several hundred bucks on a printer you won’t use more than to print several hundred labels? JETZAP Labels have a convenience ratio of 1200 to 3000 so if you print less than that JETZAP Labels are the smart choice! However, use them for whatever other purpose you need! The ink will not say bye bye like your thermal counterpart!
  • Pre-Cut - JETZAP Labels are specifically designed to be loaded like regular letter size printing paper on most Ink Jet or laser printers. If you know how to print with an Ink Jet or laser, then you can JETZAP! Just switch your printer from Letter Size to 4x6 and it’s a done deal! No need to rack your brain setting up a thermal printer, install new software, and deal with technical issues… Forget about it! Just JET, ZAP and Label!
  • Multiple quantities offer more savings – JETZAP Labels come in packs of 120 to 2000 labels. The more packs you order, the higher your savings will be. Each additional pack comes with additional savings!
  • Compatible with most Ink Jet and laser printers. Not waterproof. Not for thermal label printers. In individual 4 x 6 inch sheets. Not as part of a larger sheet or half sheets. Not fan-folded. Please ensure your pinter is compatible with printing label paper and that your printer is capable of printing 4 x 6 inch sheets before purchasing.

Choose an offer that fits the product

  • Bundle complementary items into a starter kit.
  • Offer quantity breaks or buy-more-save-more tiers for products customers reasonably need in multiples.
  • Show relevant cross-sells or premium upgrades without interrupting the original checkout.
  • Test a free-shipping threshold above current AOV.
  • Use subscriptions only for genuinely replenishable products, with clear pause, skip, and cancellation controls.
  • Consider a gift with purchase when its cost and effect on margin are understood.

For a free-shipping test, the basic AOV gap is shipping threshold minus current AOV. Then calculate whether the extra gross profit from the additional basket covers the shipping subsidy and any discount. Set the threshold using the store’s actual order distribution and unit economics.

Measure: AOV, units per order, conversion rate, contribution margin per order, and whether bundles displace higher-margin standalone products.

Watch for: Free shipping and discounts can lift sales while eroding margin or teaching customers to wait for a deal. Irrelevant cross-sells undermine trust, and subscriptions create cancellation, refund, and support obligations.

8. Expand qualified acquisition, including emerging AI shopping

Best for: Stores with sound measurement, a working core funnel, and capacity to fulfill more orders. The goal is incremental qualified traffic—not traffic volume for its own sake.

Use a balanced acquisition mix

  • Develop high-intent organic search and shopping-feed visibility.
  • Use paid search for proven demand and paid social for discovery or carefully controlled retargeting.
  • Test creator partnerships, affiliates, referrals, and user-generated content with distinct landing pages or codes.
  • Consider marketplaces when commissions, fulfillment, advertising, and customer-ownership costs make sense.
  • Track new-customer rate and contribution margin, cap retargeting frequency, and exclude recent purchasers from acquisition campaigns when appropriate.

Prepare for AI-driven shopping without relying on it

Google announced Universal Commerce Protocol-related shopping and checkout developments on May 20, 2026. Its shopping and marketing announcement and 2026 commerce update describe AI shopping experiences and rollout conditions that depend on markets, participating retailers, and platforms. They do not establish universal merchant access or guarantee traffic, rankings, or sales.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make product titles, descriptions, attributes, prices, stock, shipping, returns, reviews, and structured product data accurate and synchronized. Answer natural-language buying questions clearly, state compatibility and exclusions, and watch for inaccurate descriptions of your products or brand in AI surfaces. Treat AI discovery and checkout as an experiment alongside established channels, not a replacement for them.

Measure: Incremental new customers, CAC, contribution margin, payback, and returns or cancellations by channel and campaign.

Watch for: Strong platform-reported ROAS can mask organic demand, repeat-customer targeting, returns, or delayed payback. Compare channels using backend sales and profit, not attribution alone.

9. Make trust, delivery, returns, and service part of the offer

Best for: Stores where purchase anxiety, unreliable fulfillment, or repeated service issues deter first or repeat orders. A shopper evaluates the risk of buying from the merchant as well as the product itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reduce uncertainty

  • Show a clear business identity, contact route, returns policy, delivery estimate, and warranty or replacement terms.
  • Use independent reviews, realistic stock status, secure payment options, and credible product or sourcing information.
  • Provide accessible support and self-service order tracking.
  • Send proactive shipping updates and make return terms understandable.
  • Analyze return reasons by product and correct sizing, packaging, or quality problems that generate repeat returns.
  • Improve forecasting and availability for hero products to reduce stockouts and cancellations.

Measure: Conversion and repeat rate, delivery performance, support contacts, cancellation rate, return reasons, and margin after fulfillment and return costs.

Trade-offs: Faster shipping and free returns can improve confidence but increase costs or abuse. Marketplace volume can come at the cost of margin and customer ownership. Estimate the full operational effect before making a promise.

Prioritize tests by profit, confidence, and effort

Choose the smallest set of changes tied to the clearest bottleneck. A useful ranking is expected incremental contribution profit × confidence ÷ implementation effort. Treat margin risk as a veto: an idea with high sales potential may still be a poor test if shipping, discounts, returns, or acquisition cost make the likely outcome unprofitable.

Priority When it fits Typical first action
High impact, low effort Existing demand is leaking Clarify shipping, enable guest checkout, fix payment errors, or repair broken analytics
High impact, medium effort Product-page or checkout performance is weak Audit the largest funnel drop and test its most plausible cause
Medium impact, low effort Existing customers are under-served Repair welcome, post-purchase, replenishment, or win-back messages
High impact, high effort Product demand and operating capacity are established Evaluate international expansion, unified channels, or major platform changes
Experimental Measurement is sound and the core funnel works Test AI commerce, personalization, chat-assisted shopping, or a new acquisition channel

A practical 90-day plan

Days 1–14: Establish the baseline

  • Validate analytics and order tracking; calculate contribution margin.
  • Find the largest funnel loss by device, channel, and customer type.
  • Fix broken checkout, inaccurate price or stock data, and unclear delivery information.
  • Audit mobile product and checkout flows on real devices.

Days 15–30: Repair the core journey

  • Improve the highest-traffic or highest-value product pages.
  • Launch or repair welcome, cart, post-purchase, and replenishment journeys as relevant.
  • Test one checkout change and one AOV offer, each against a clear baseline.

Days 31–60: Improve intent and operating fit

  • Build higher-intent landing pages and improve product feeds and structured data.
  • Run a controlled creator, search, or shopping campaign with channel-level profit tracking.
  • Review return and support reasons by product and fix repeat causes.

Days 61–90: Scale carefully

  • Scale only tests that improve incremental contribution profit or have a clearly justified strategic benefit.
  • Add bundles or subscriptions where the economics and customer need support them.
  • Test another acquisition channel, then assess international, marketplace, omnichannel, or AI-commerce opportunities against operational readiness.
  • Recalculate payback, contribution margin, return costs, and inventory needs.
