You can offer an item through Facebook Marketplace or a local buy-and-sell group, but whether Marketplace accepts a price of exactly $0 may depend on the live listing fields and rules for your location, category, or account. Check the form before you publish. If it will not accept a free listing, try a relevant local group whose rules allow giveaways.
Choose where to post the item
Facebook identifies both Marketplace and buy-and-sell groups as ways to offer items. Marketplace is a place to reach nearby shoppers; a local group may suit an item that is useful to people in a particular neighborhood or community. Facebook’s listing guidance is available through its Marketplace listing instructions.
Before posting in a group, check its rules: groups set their own requirements for listings, prices, location, and pickup. Neither channel is guaranteed to get a response or find a recipient.
Create a clear, honest listing
- Open the current listing flow. Start from Facebook Marketplace and follow the listing instructions shown in your account. The exact interface can change, so use the controls currently displayed rather than relying on a fixed set of taps.
- Enter the price the form allows. Check whether the price field accepts $0 and whether the category has additional rules. Universal acceptance of a zero-price listing is not established. If the form will not let you publish it as free, consider a suitable local buy-and-sell group instead.
- Describe the item accurately. Name it, explain its condition, and disclose defects or missing parts. State plainly that it is free so people do not mistake the listing for a sale.
- Use the available listing fields and publish. Review the finished post for accuracy and make sure its location and handoff details are clear.
Arrange pickup or delivery safely

Shipping is not available everywhere. Facebook says it may be offered depending on location, so do not assume the option will appear for your listing or that a shipping flow is available for a free item. After the item is collected
Once the recipient has picked up the item, update or remove the listing if the controls available on your post permit it. Check the live post for the relevant options; exact controls may vary or change.
