Space Exploration Technologies Corp. completed an initial public offering in June 2026, selling Class A shares under ticker SPCX. The shares were priced at $135 for the offering and were expected to begin trading on Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas on June 12, 2026. That $135 figure is the historical IPO price, not a current quote.
You can also obtain indirect exposure by owning shares of public companies that report SpaceX investments or received SpaceX shares in a transaction. Alphabet, Tesla and EchoStar are documented examples, but their shareholders own those companies—not SpaceX—and each issuer has businesses, risks and capital structures that can outweigh its SpaceX-related asset.

The direct route: buy SpaceX Class A shares under SPCX
SpaceX is no longer limited to private-market transactions. Its June 11, 2026 IPO announcement said the company priced 555,555,555 Class A shares at $135 per share and expected the stock to trade under SPCX. The offering was scheduled for Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas, subject to customary closing conditions. SpaceX’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 later reported that the IPO had been completed in June.

What the IPO proceeds are intended to fund
SpaceX said it intended to use the proceeds for growth initiatives that include artificial-intelligence computing infrastructure, launch infrastructure and vehicles, scaling and expanding its satellite constellation and capacity, and general corporate purposes. This is management’s stated use of funds, not a guarantee that any project will meet its targets or produce a particular return.
How to purchase SPCX through a brokerage
Execution depends on your country, the type of account you use and whether your broker supports the listing. A practical process is:
- Confirm availability. Search your broker’s instrument directory for SPCX and verify that the result is SpaceX Class A common stock, not a similarly named derivative or private-market product. If the symbol does not appear, ask the broker whether the security is restricted in your jurisdiction or account type.
- Read current disclosures. Use SpaceX’s latest prospectus and SEC filings for share rights, financial statements, risks and outstanding share information. The IPO announcement itself says it was made only by means of a prospectus and that the release did not provide full disclosure of all material facts.
- Check the live market data. Review the current bid, ask, trading status and any exchange or regulatory notices. Do not substitute the $135 IPO price for a live market price.
- Choose an order type deliberately. A market order prioritizes execution but can fill at a price different from the quote you saw. A limit order specifies the highest price you will pay, although it may not execute. Your broker’s order documentation controls how each instruction works.
- Review currency and trading permissions. International investors may face currency conversion, local custody rules, withholding or reporting obligations, and limits on U.S. securities. These conditions vary by jurisdiction and are not established by SpaceX’s IPO announcement.
- Record the trade and monitor filings. Keep the confirmation showing quantity, execution price, commissions and currency. Recheck SpaceX’s filings for changes in results, share classes, restrictions and capital structure rather than relying on the original offering terms.
What SPCX represents: a multi-segment SpaceX business
Buying SPCX is not a narrowly targeted bet on rockets. SpaceX reports three operating segments:
- Space: launch vehicles and related services.
- Connectivity: broadband and mobile connectivity powered by the Starlink satellite network.
- AI: activities that SpaceX describes as including Grok, X, AI solutions and computing infrastructure.
Because these activities are reported together, the stock’s results can reflect launch operations, satellite-network economics, connectivity demand, artificial-intelligence investment and corporate spending at the same time. Treat SPCX as exposure to the combined reported company unless a filing provides a different segment-level basis.

Indirect public-company routes that include SpaceX-related assets
Several public filings document SpaceX-related holdings or transactions at other issuers. They provide possible indirect exposure, but the evidence is not uniform: Alphabet and Tesla report investments or holdings, while EchoStar’s filing describes transaction consideration that includes SpaceX shares. A transaction description does not by itself establish a company’s current holding balance.
| Public security | What the primary filing documents | Date or measurement basis | What an investor should infer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alphabet (GOOGL/GOOG) | $80.0 billion of SpaceX shares subject to short-term selling restrictions, plus $14.1 billion of shares subject to restrictions through the third quarter of 2027. | Alphabet Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026; amounts are as of June 30. | A documented SpaceX-related holding inside a much larger company. The figures can change, and they are not a current quote or a measure of the percentage of Alphabet’s value attributable to SpaceX. |
| Tesla (TSLA) | An approximately $2.00 billion purchase of SpaceX Class A common stock. | Tesla filing reports the purchase was completed March 12, 2026. | A documented investment on that date, not a promise that the amount remains fixed or that Tesla is a SpaceX proxy. |
| EchoStar (SATS) | Agreements to transfer spectrum rights to SpaceX with consideration that includes SpaceX Class A shares. | EchoStar Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2025. | A transaction-linked connection requiring review of newer filings before estimating any current SpaceX position or exposure. |
Alphabet: reported restricted SpaceX shares
Alphabet’s June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q lists $80.0 billion of SpaceX shares subject to short-term selling restrictions and another $14.1 billion subject to restrictions through the third quarter of 2027. Those values are tied to the filing date and the restrictions described there. They can change with sales, transfers, market prices, additional transactions or revised disclosures.
Buying GOOGL or GOOG gives you an interest in Alphabet’s entire business and its capital structure. The SpaceX securities are one asset among Alphabet’s other operations, investments, liabilities and risks. The filing does not make Alphabet stock equivalent to owning SPCX.
Tesla: a reported $2 billion Class A purchase
Tesla’s filing says it completed an approximately $2.00 billion purchase of SpaceX Class A common stock on March 12, 2026. That establishes a dated investment, not a perpetual exposure level. Tesla could buy, sell, dilute or revalue the position, and the value of the holding can move independently of Tesla’s operating results.

A Tesla shareholder therefore owns Tesla common stock. Any change in Tesla’s share price reflects the market’s assessment of Tesla’s automotive, energy, software, financing and other activities as well as its SpaceX investment. The filing does not support describing TSLA as a pure-play SpaceX substitute.
EchoStar: spectrum transactions involving SpaceX shares
EchoStar’s 2025 Form 10-K describes agreements under which it transfers spectrum rights to SpaceX and receives consideration that includes SpaceX Class A shares. This is different from a filing that simply reports a standing investment balance. The terms show a relationship between the companies, but the cited filing alone does not establish how many SpaceX shares EchoStar holds today, whether restrictions apply, or what the position is worth at a later date.
Anyone considering SATS for SpaceX-related exposure should read EchoStar’s newest annual and quarterly filings, the transaction agreements summarized there and any subsequent disclosures before making an estimate.
Why indirect exposure is not the same as owning SPCX
- Different legal ownership: An SPCX holder owns SpaceX Class A shares. A GOOGL, GOOG, TSLA or SATS holder owns shares of Alphabet, Tesla or EchoStar.
- Different economic weighting: Even a large reported SpaceX asset may represent only one part of the public company’s value. The weighting changes as the SpaceX position, the issuer’s other assets and both share prices change.
- Different liquidity and restrictions: Filings may identify lockups or short-term selling restrictions. A reported value does not mean the holder can sell immediately.
- Different business risks: The indirect issuer’s revenue, debt, capital spending, litigation, regulation and management decisions affect your investment regardless of SpaceX’s performance.
- Different governance: Voting rights belong to the shares you purchase in the public issuer. They do not give you the voting rights attached to SpaceX shares held by that issuer.
SpaceX share classes and voting control
SpaceX’s June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q distinguishes Class A and Class B voting rights. Class A receives one vote per share. The filing states: “Each holder of Class B is entitled to ten votes for each share held.”

That ten-to-one difference matters when evaluating governance. Economic ownership, voting power and the ability to influence corporate actions are not necessarily identical. Do not assume that buying Class A SPCX gives the same control as holding Class B, or that the two classes have identical rights in every matter. Consult the current charter, prospectus and subsequent filings for the complete rights attached to each class.

Reported losses
SpaceX’s Form 10-Q reports a net loss of $541 million for the three months ended June 30, 2026 and a net loss of $4.817 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2026. These are period-specific accounting results from the company’s filing, not a valuation metric or a forecast of future losses.
When comparing SPCX with an indirect route, use the latest financial statements and valuation data rather than extrapolating from the IPO price or a single quarter. A company can have substantial growth plans and still report losses while it invests in infrastructure.

Execution, concentration and valuation risk
- Execution risk: The stated plans for launch systems, satellite capacity and AI infrastructure require substantial capital and operational delivery.
- Segment complexity: Results from Space, Connectivity and AI may have different growth rates, margins and capital needs. Consolidated figures can conceal those differences.
- Market risk: A newly listed stock can trade materially above or below its IPO price. The offering price was set for the June 2026 transaction and is not a support level.
- Concentration risk: Choosing an indirect company adds exposure to that company’s core operations, not just to SpaceX.
- Disclosure timing: Restricted holdings and transaction-linked shares may be reported only at periodic filing dates, so a published figure can be stale by the time you act.
A decision framework for choosing direct or indirect exposure
Choose the direct route when your objective is SpaceX-specific ownership
SPCX is the clearest match when you want the market value, dividends if any are declared, voting rights and risks of SpaceX Class A stock itself. You still need to verify listing access, current price, share-class terms and the latest filings.

Consider an indirect route only when you also want the issuer’s main business
Alphabet, Tesla and EchoStar may be relevant only if you are comfortable owning those companies for their broader activities. Treat the SpaceX asset as one component of the investment, and use current filings to determine whether it remains material, restricted or present at all.
Do not rank proxies without comparable current data
It is not reliable to declare one public company the “best” SpaceX proxy using figures measured on different dates or under different accounting treatments. Alphabet’s reported amounts are as of June 30, 2026; Tesla’s amount refers to a purchase completed March 12, 2026; EchoStar’s cited disclosure describes 2025 transaction terms. The measurements are not interchangeable.
Checks to complete before placing an order
- Confirm that SPCX is listed and tradable through your specific broker and jurisdiction.
- Read the current SpaceX prospectus and SEC filings, not only the IPO announcement.
- Verify whether you are buying Class A common stock, an option, a depositary receipt or another instrument.
- Review the live quote, spread, trading hours and order restrictions.
- For an indirect issuer, identify the filing date, carrying value, restrictions and transaction terms of the SpaceX-related asset.
- Assess the issuer’s other businesses, debt, cash needs and governance before treating the stock as an exposure vehicle.
- Account for currency conversion, taxes, reporting and custody rules that apply where you live.
- Decide in advance how much volatility and concentration your overall portfolio can tolerate.
What the primary disclosures do—and do not—tell you
SpaceX’s IPO release confirms the offering terms and intended listing, but it expressly cautions that the release does not provide full disclosure of all material facts relating to the securities offered. The Form 10-Q supplies more detail on completed issuance, business segments, voting rights and financial results, yet it is still a report for a specific period.
Alphabet, Tesla and EchoStar filings establish the documented relationships described above at their respective reporting dates. They do not guarantee that the positions, restrictions or transaction economics remain unchanged. For a trade made after those dates, the latest prospectus, quarterly report, annual report and broker information are the appropriate references.
Bottom line for investors
To obtain the most direct publicly traded SpaceX exposure, look for SpaceX Class A common stock under ticker SPCX and verify that your broker and jurisdiction permit trading. The June 2026 IPO price of $135 is historical. Alphabet, Tesla and EchoStar can provide indirect exposure through reported holdings or transaction consideration, but their shareholders own the parent companies and bear all of those companies’ other risks. Compare routes using current filings, share-class rights, restrictions, liquidity and the amount of business exposure you actually want—not by treating every SpaceX-related disclosure as equivalent ownership.
