Once unlocked, the benefit lasts for the remainder of that calendar year, the following calendar year, and through January 31 of the next year. In other words, its duration carries beyond the year in which the threshold is met, but it has a stated end date rather than remaining available indefinitely. Check the Benefits page in your online account or the Amex app for the account’s actual status; reaching the spending threshold is not the same as seeing the benefit confirmed for use.

The official Australia lounge page reported that the Sydney lounge was temporarily closed from October 6 through October 20, 2026; closure notices and policies can change, so check the lounge’s current information for your travel date. A guest allowance does not help if the named lounge is closed, and a closure notice for Sydney does not establish anything about another location. Verify operating status as well as guest eligibility when planning a visit.
For international advice, establish the card’s issuing country and exact lounge, then use the current issuer and location terms. - The account has not unlocked complimentary guests. In that case, U.S. Platinum guests are subject to the applicable per-person fee; the $75,000 threshold must be met with eligible calendar-year purchases and the benefit must be active. Recent qualifying spend may not show as an active benefit immediately.
- The card’s rules are being confused with another product’s rules. A corporate or non-U.S. card may have a different allowance, but that policy should not be applied to a U.S. Platinum account. Compare the issuer, card class, and lounge before relying on a guest count or price.
- The lounge is at capacity. Access depends on space, so a cardholder’s eligibility or available guest benefit cannot ensure entry at a busy time. Treat access as subject to availability rather than guaranteed.
