Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf UPS tracking has stopped updating, shows an exception, or says delivered when you cannot find the package, start with the shipment’s event history on UPS.com tracking. A scan gap alone does not prove a parcel is lost. The right next step depends on the status: check the latest event, follow any shipment-specific instruction, and contact the seller or UPS when the record indicates a problem.
How to troubleshoot a UPS tracking problem
-
Enter the tracking number directly on UPS.com, rather than relying on a text link or a third-party status summary.
-
Review the full event history, the estimated delivery information, and any event-specific note. A general status label may not explain the reason for a delay or what action is available.
-
Match the status to the situations below. If the estimated delivery date passes, an exception appears, or the package is marked delivered but is missing, use the relevant UPS instruction and contact the seller through the order channel when appropriate.

UPS says tracking details update when a package is scanned. That means a quiet tracking history can reflect a gap between scan locations, not necessarily a lost shipment. UPS’s U.S. guidance notes that a package may remain “On the Way” for several days, especially over a long distance, before it reaches another scan location. UPS: Where’s My Package
What common UPS tracking statuses mean
“On the Way”
UPS uses “On the Way” for a package it has received and is moving through its network toward the destination. It is a progress status, not a precise location or guaranteed arrival time. A scan may not appear again until the parcel reaches the next scan point.
“Out for Delivery”
This means the package reached a local UPS facility and was loaded onto a driver’s vehicle. It does not promise delivery at a particular hour. If nothing arrives, refresh the shipment record for a later event and check for a delivery notice.
“Exception”
A shipment exception means an unexpected event may affect delivery timing. UPS gives weather, address issues, and customs processing as examples. Read the specific event note and any revised delivery information: the word “exception” by itself does not establish how long a delay will last. See UPS’s status guidance.

If UPS tracking has not updated
First check the original UPS tracking page for the entire event history and current estimated delivery details. For long-distance shipments, several days without a new scan can be consistent with UPS’s “On the Way” guidance. Recheck periodically rather than treating the absence of a scan as proof of loss.
If the delivery estimate has passed, the record shows an exception, or the gap is otherwise concerning, contact UPS through its current support options and contact the seller through your order channel. The seller may need to act on the shipment or help resolve the order; do not rely only on an interpretation from a third-party tracking site.
If tracking says delivered but the package is missing
-
Check likely drop locations, including less visible exterior doors, a porch, patio, or garage.
-
Ask household members and neighbors whether they accepted the package or moved it.

If you missed a delivery attempt
A UPS delivery notice means the first attempt was unsuccessful. Read the notice’s instructions and boxes, then track with the original tracking number or the notice number to see whether another attempt, redirection, or pickup action is available. Confirm the package’s current location in live tracking before traveling to a pickup point. Options, deadlines, and identification requirements depend on the shipment and location. UPS delivery guidance.
If UPS rejects your tracking number
Check that you are using the UPS tracking ID, not a merchant order number or reference, and confirm it with the sender. Look for transcription errors, such as omitted characters or confusing letters and numbers.
UPS lists examples including numbers beginning with 1Z, 12-digit numeric numbers, T-prefixed numbers, and 9-digit numbers; it also says it tracks other numbers from seven to 20 characters. The formats are examples, so a number that looks different is not automatically invalid. See UPS tracking support.

If the delivery map or alerts do not appear
The Follow My Delivery map has eligibility and timing conditions. UPS says it requires the package to be “Out for Delivery” and the user to be logged in or authenticated as a My Choice or My Choice for Business customer. In the U.S., map visibility also depends on being within one hour of the stated delivery window or service commitment; if no time window is available, the map may not appear. A missing map therefore does not, by itself, mean tracking is broken. See UPS My Choice.
My Choice alerts and delivery preferences can help manage deliveries, but the shipment’s tracking record remains the place to check its current status and instructions.

Be cautious with unexpected texts, calls, or emails claiming there is a delivery problem or payment due. Do not click a suspicious link or provide payment information in response to it. Open UPS.com independently, enter the tracking number, and verify any request through UPS’s official account or support channels. UPS advises recipients not to click suspicious links; consult its current fraud guidance because contact details and fraud warnings can change.
