Before entering, confirm who sponsors it, when and where it is open, how to enter, what the prize actually is, and how a potential winner will be contacted. Never pay a fee or share sensitive financial information to claim a prize.
Start with the sponsor’s official channels
Look for the promotion on the shoe brand’s or retailer’s official website or verified social account. Then open the official rules for that specific offer and make sure the sponsor named there matches the organization behind the page or account. A familiar brand name or logo alone does not establish that a social post or message is genuine.

Rules apply to individual promotions, not to all shoe giveaways. For example, Foot Locker’s sneaker launch rules describe a drawing for an opportunity to purchase a shoe. They should not be treated as the terms for a different Foot Locker promotion—or for another retailer’s giveaway.

Read the promotion’s own rules rather than relying on a social caption or general description. Check each of these details:

- Sponsor: Identify the organization legally running the promotion.
- Dates: Note when entry opens and closes, including any stated time zone.
- Eligibility: Check locations, age, membership, and any other entry requirements.
- Entry method and limits: Find out what action counts as an entry, whether there is a purchase requirement, and how many entries are allowed.
- Prize: Confirm what is being awarded and whether it is free or only an opportunity to buy.
- Selection and odds: Look for how winners are selected and any odds information the sponsor provides.
- Winner process: Check how potential winners will be notified, how soon they must respond, and what eligibility or identity checks apply.
Requirements can differ even between promotions run by the same retailer. A separate Foot Locker help-center version specifies FLX membership and eligibility in the contiguous 48 states. Check the live rules for the promotion you plan to enter; do not assume those conditions apply to every offer.
The ASICS Everyday Wearer Survey Sweepstakes rules provide another example of promotion-specific eligibility and terms. The page describes a promotion dated around November 1, 2025; it is an example of what rules may disclose, not evidence that the promotion is currently open. Likewise, check the current availability of the adidas adiClub sweepstakes terms and Reebok AR1 Signed Red terms at their respective sources.

Make sure the prize is what you think it is
“Sneaker giveaway” can describe more than one kind of offer. Some promotions award a free pair; a launch drawing may instead offer the right to buy a pair. Read the prize description and any conditions for collecting or using it.

Under the cited Foot Locker sneaker launch rules, a selected entrant gets the right to purchase the sneaker at launch—not a free pair—and must attend in person with matching photo ID. Attendance and identification requirements like these are specific to those rules; confirm whether the promotion you are considering has its own conditions.

Verify a winner message independently
If a message says you won, do not trust its links, phone number, or account name without checking. Scammers can impersonate recognizable companies on social media. Find the sponsor’s contact information yourself through its official website and ask whether the promotion and notification are real. The FTC offers guidance on spotting social-media giveaway scams.
Recognize prize-scam warning signs
The FTC identifies demands for a fee to receive a prize, payment to improve your odds, and requests for bank or credit-card details as warning signs. Its advice is direct: “But no real sweepstakes company will contact you asking for money to claim a prize.” — Federal Trade Commission, Fake Prize, Sweepstakes, and Lottery Scams.
