For Amazon-shipped orders, contact Amazon Customer Service when the package remains missing; for orders both sold and shipped by a third-party seller, contact the seller first. An A-to-z Guarantee claim is a possible next step for eligible third-party orders—not the standard claim route for every Amazon purchase. The steps and time limits below reflect Amazon.com US guidance accessed October 4, 2026.
First, identify the order and its status
Open Your Orders and check the tracking status, estimated delivery date, seller, and shipper. The seller and shipper can differ: the A-to-z Guarantee is for items sold and fulfilled by a third-party seller, while a package shipped by Amazon should be handled through Amazon Customer Service.

- Late, not marked delivered: follow Amazon’s late-delivery guidance and allow the stated delay window.
- Marked delivered, but missing: check likely delivery locations and allow time for a premature delivery scan.
- Marked undeliverable: check the refund or seller-contact route for the order.
If the order says delivered but you cannot find it
Amazon notes that “Packages may be scanned as delivered before arrival.” Follow its recommended checks before reporting the package missing: Amazon’s missing-package guidance.
- In Your Orders, confirm the shipping address.
- Check the order’s tracking details, Message Center, delivery photo, or delivery notice. Review any delivery instructions for the specified drop-off location.
- Ask household members or neighbors whether they accepted the package.
- Wait 48 hours after the delivered scan; Amazon says a package may be scanned before it arrives.
- If carrier tracking may help locate it, contact the carrier.
If the package is still missing and Amazon shipped it, contact Amazon Customer Service within 30 days of the expected delivery date. If the order was both sold and shipped by a third-party seller, contact that seller instead.

If the estimated delivery date has passed and the package is late
Track the order and check for carrier notifications. Amazon recommends allowing 48 hours beyond the estimated delivery date for unexpected delays. After that, contact Amazon Customer Service for an Amazon-shipped order, and do so within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. For an order both sold and shipped by a third-party seller, contact the seller. See Amazon’s late-delivery guidance.
A late order with a guaranteed delivery promise may qualify for a shipping-fee refund, depending on the order and its delivery promise. That possibility is separate from a claim for a missing item and is not an automatic refund entitlement.

If the tracking status says undeliverable
Amazon says an undeliverable package is returned and a refund is processed. Reasons can include damage, an incorrect or inaccessible address, an unreadable label, repeated failed attempts to access the delivery location, or refusal of delivery. For an order shipped and sold by a third-party seller, contact the seller directly. Amazon says you may be eligible for A-to-z relief if you are dissatisfied with the seller’s solution or the seller has not replied within two business days. When and how to request an A-to-z Guarantee claim
The A-to-z Guarantee applies to qualifying purchases of items sold and fulfilled by a third-party seller that provides its own customer service. It is not the usual route for an order sold or shipped by Amazon. Amazon’s A-to-z Guarantee page sets these conditions for a delivery-related claim:

- You contacted the seller more than 48 hours ago, and the seller has not responded or resolved the issue.
These are eligibility thresholds in Amazon’s current US policy, not guaranteed refund deadlines. Amazon reviews each request; meeting the conditions does not ensure approval. The policy excludes some order categories and directs Amazon Global Store and Marketplace items delivered using Prime to Customer Service.
- Open Your Orders and select the eligible third-party order.
- Choose the problem or refund option Amazon presents for that order. The labels can vary by account and order.
- Follow the prompts to submit the request and any information Amazon asks for.
Amazon Pay has a separate A-to-z policy for qualifying purchases from third-party websites paid through Amazon Pay. That process does not apply to an ordinary Amazon retail order; see Amazon Pay’s buyer-protection policy only if the purchase was made on another website using Amazon Pay.

Amazon’s order-specific options and the policy that applies can depend on the order category and fulfillment details. If the route is unclear, use the order page or Amazon Customer Service rather than submitting an A-to-z request for an order that is not eligible.
