Evaluate NVIDIA on two separate questions: how durable its AI-driven growth and profits may be, and what expectations its share price already reflects. Its results through the quarter ended July 26, 2026 show exceptional growth, but those results alone do not establish whether the stock is attractively priced. A valuation judgment requires a dated share price and clearly identified earnings or cash-flow estimates.
What do NVIDIA’s latest results say about growth?
NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 ended January 25, 2026. Its latest located operating filing covers Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended July 26, 2026. Keep these periods distinct: fiscal-year results describe a full year, while the quarterly figures below cover three months.

The scale and concentration of the Data Center business matter as much as the headline growth rate. It accounted for most of FY2026 revenue, and it generated $89.0 billion of Q2 FY2027’s $96.2 billion total. NVIDIA attributed FY2026 growth to accelerated computing and AI; for Q2 FY2027 it said data-center products drove revenue growth, Blackwell continued to account for most system shipments, and the ramp of Blackwell Ultra infrastructure contributed to Data Center growth. Those are the company’s explanations of its results, not independent evidence that demand will persist.

Revenue growth should be considered alongside margins, expenses, and exceptional charges. NVIDIA reported a 71.1% gross margin for FY2026, lower than the prior year, and attributed the decline to the transition from Hopper HGX products to full-scale Blackwell data-center systems as well as a $4.5 billion H20 excess-inventory and purchase-obligation charge in Q1 FY2026. For Q2 FY2027, the company reported a 75.0% gross margin and attributed the year-over-year improvement to product mix from Blackwell Ultra. One quarter’s margin may reflect product mix and transition timing; it is not, on its own, a reliable long-term margin assumption.

Operating expenses increased 55% year over year in Q2 FY2027, which NVIDIA attributed primarily to higher compute-infrastructure and compensation costs. Track whether those costs rise more slowly or more quickly than revenue over time, and whether margin changes accompany shifts in product mix, pricing, or inventory provisions. The annual results also show that fast sales growth coincided with substantial operating income and net income growth, but they do not remove the need to assess the durability of those economics.
How should you evaluate NVIDIA’s valuation?
A business can be growing rapidly and still be a poor investment at a price that assumes too much. The available operating results do not supply an October 2026 share price, analyst-consensus estimates, or comparable-company market data, so they cannot establish a current P/E, price-to-sales ratio, fair value, or whether the shares are cheap or expensive. Build a dated calculation from market data and state exactly which earnings or cash-flow period it uses.

Use consistent inputs before calculating a multiple
- Record the market date and share price. Use a quoted price for a specified date, and identify the share count and share class used if deriving market capitalization. Market capitalization is equity value; enterprise value adjusts for cash, debt, and other relevant claims. Do not treat them as interchangeable.
- Label the denominator. A trailing P/E uses actual earnings for a stated historical period; a forward P/E uses an estimate. Name the estimate provider and date, and identify the fiscal period it covers. Forward multiples depend on estimates that can change.
- Cross-check rather than substitute. Price-to-sales can help when earnings are distorted, but it ignores profitability. Enterprise value to operating cash flow incorporates cash generation but depends on a clearly defined cash-flow period and can be affected by working-capital movements and investment needs.
- Compare like with like. If using semiconductor or AI-infrastructure peers, identify the peer group, market-data date, fiscal periods, and accounting basis. Compare business mix, growth, margins, customer concentration, and geographic exposure as well as headline multiples; do not infer that a lower multiple automatically means better value.
Make the assumptions visible in scenarios
Build at least a base case and alternatives that vary the factors most relevant to NVIDIA’s economics: Data Center growth, gross margin, operating-expense growth, customer spending and financing, and the pace at which customers bring new capacity online. Estimate the resulting earnings or cash flow, then compare that outcome with a price and multiple calculated on the same date and basis. A premium multiple may reflect expected growth, but it also makes the valuation more sensitive to a shortfall in those expectations. The scenarios are analytical tools, not forecasts or guarantees.
What could make AI-related growth harder to sustain?
NVIDIA’s revenue depends on more than demand for chips. Customers and partners need financing, power, land, buildings, data-center capacity, and the ability to deploy systems. Supply must also expand on time and at the expected quality and cost. The company’s Q2 FY2027 filing identifies these as potential constraints on future revenue and financial performance.

Customer concentration and ability to fund deployments
In Q2 FY2027, one direct customer accounted for 16% of NVIDIA’s total revenue. In the first half of FY2027, three direct customers accounted for 16%, 15%, and 13% of revenue, respectively, according to the company’s Q2 FY2027 Form 10-Q. These disclosures concern direct customers; they do not identify every ultimate end customer. NVIDIA says it estimates revenue from indirect customers using purchase orders, product specifications, internal sales data, and other information, and notes that some indirect customers may individually account for 10% or more of revenue.
The same filing says some AI cloud providers and model developers lack long-term infrastructure contracts and investment-grade financing capacity. If funding or deployment plans fall short, customers may delay or reduce orders. NVIDIA also describes commitments to selected AI cloud partners to buy cloud services, with possible revenue sharing if specified criteria are met; it warns that changes in market conditions could adversely affect results. These arrangements make it useful to examine not only who places orders, but also who ultimately funds and uses the capacity.

Power, data centers, and supply execution
NVIDIA says the availability of land, power, data-center shells, and capital is important to customers’ and partners’ ability to build data centers, and that shortages could affect its revenue and financial performance. Expanding infrastructure can take multiple years and involve regulatory, construction, and technical challenges. The company also reported $279 billion of supply and capacity commitments as of July 26, 2026, up from $119 billion the prior quarter. It says these commitments help secure inventory and capacity for anticipated demand; they also expose the business to forecast error. If demand changes or production encounters delays, quality issues, yield challenges, or other constraints, the company warns it could face supply-demand imbalances, inventory provisions, higher costs, warranty costs, and revenue volatility.
Export controls and China exposure
NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 filing describes changing U.S. export-license requirements and restrictions, Chinese government actions, and limits on sales of particular data-center products. The filing reports a $4.5 billion charge related to H20 restrictions in FY2026 and says later H200 licensing did not mean every licensed product could be sold. As of July 26, 2026, NVIDIA said it was effectively foreclosed from competing in China’s data-center compute market. These are period-specific disclosures: regulatory and government decisions can change the products the company may sell and the markets it can serve.

Product transitions and margin variability
Moving from one generation of data-center systems to another can affect costs, product mix, inventories, and reported margin. NVIDIA linked FY2026’s gross-margin decline to its transition from Hopper HGX to full-scale Blackwell systems and the H20 charge; it linked Q2 FY2027’s year-over-year margin improvement to Blackwell Ultra mix. When assessing future profitability, separate recurring product economics from transition effects and inventory-related charges instead of projecting either a difficult year or a strong quarter unchanged.

Use each new filing to test whether the assumptions behind your valuation remain plausible. A practical review can focus on these signals:
- Demand and mix: Data Center revenue growth, Blackwell-related shipment commentary, and the company’s stated drivers of demand.
- Profitability: gross-margin direction, operating-expense growth, inventory provisions, and the company’s explanation of major changes.
- Customer resilience: direct-customer concentration, disclosed financing or deployment constraints, and the timing of customer capacity buildouts.
- Capacity and commitments: supply and capacity commitments, production execution, and the risk that planned demand differs from actual orders.
- Market access: export restrictions, licensing decisions, and the company’s ability to sell products in important regions.
- Price versus expectations: the dated share price and updated earnings or cash-flow assumptions used in your valuation.
For comparisons with other semiconductor or AI-infrastructure companies, keep the analysis on consistent axes: AI data-center exposure versus other markets; growth and its customer or product concentration; gross margins, expense growth, and cash generation; supply dependencies and infrastructure needs; software ecosystem and switching costs where supported by comparable evidence; geographic exposure and export restrictions; and valuation multiples calculated on the same market-data date and earnings basis. Without comparable evidence, those axes guide questions rather than support a ranking.
