To enter a project in a UK digital industry awards programme, choose a category the project genuinely fits, check its eligibility and current deadline, then build a tailored entry that answers the category’s judging criteria with clear evidence. The exact form, word limits, attachments, fees and submission route vary by programme, so use the organiser’s current official guidance—not another award’s rules.
1. Choose a programme and category that fit the project
Start with the official category description and eligibility rules. Check that the project, organisation and relevant dates qualify, and that the category recognises the kind of work you are entering. If you want to showcase an implemented project, look for a category that judges delivery and outcomes rather than simply a product or technology.
If you are considering several awards or categories, compare them on the points that affect both fit and effort:
- How closely the project matches the category’s actual criteria.
- Eligibility dates and any UK connection requirement.
- Whether you have evidence for the outcomes the category asks about.
- Word limits, required questions and permitted attachment formats.
- Entry fees and any separate cost of attending if shortlisted.
- Deadline, judging stages and whether a presentation or interview is required.
Do not assume two programmes use the same definition of a project award, eligibility window or submission rules. Confirm each detail on the relevant organiser’s live page.

2. Turn the criteria into an evidence-led outline
Read the chosen category’s criteria in full and make a draft outline that answers each point directly. The UK IT Industry Awards advises entrants to address the core components of the criteria, tailor entries to each category and support claims with facts and figures (official entry guidance). Treat that as advice from this programme, not a universal set of judging rules.
A practical planning table can help you assemble evidence before writing. It is a drafting aid, not a claim that every awards programme uses these criteria; follow the target category form wherever it differs.

| What to explain | Evidence to assemble | How to make the claim clear |
|---|---|---|
| Need and intended outcome | Baseline, user or business need, project objective | Say who was affected and what needed to change. |
| Delivery and project management | Milestones, scope, team roles and delivery choices | Explain the approach and the constraints that shaped it. |
| Innovation or technical approach | Design decisions, methods and alternatives considered | Connect each choice to the problem it addressed. |
| Results and benefits | Before-and-after measures, adoption, service or business outcomes | Give the baseline, period, units and evidence source. |
| Customer or user value | Feedback, usage or service measures; testimonials if allowed | Make clear whose experience the evidence represents. |
| Learning and wider relevance | Lessons and evidence of repeatability or transfer | Distinguish demonstrated results from future potential. |
Where you quote a result, include enough context for a judge to interpret it: what was measured, the comparison point, the time period and where the evidence came from. Separate measured outcomes from estimates, anecdotes and benefits that are still expected.
3. Write for the chosen category, not for every award at once
Use the category’s language and order, and respond to each question in the form. Do not paste in an unchanged generic entry: a project may qualify for more than one category, but the emphasis and relevant proof can differ. Remove claims that do not answer a criterion, and replace unsupported superlatives with specific evidence.

For a project entry, explain the problem or opportunity, the intended goals, what the team did, how delivery was managed, what changed and how you know. Make the team’s contribution visible. A list of product features is not a substitute for showing what changed for users or the organisation.
For example, the UK IT Industry Awards’ 2026 Digital Transformation Project guidance says its determination is based on project outcomes rather than the technology itself (2026 category guidance). That is specific to the named category and cycle, but it illustrates why an entry should connect technology choices to delivery and impact.

4. Follow the form, limits and attachment rules exactly
Use the current form’s questions and instructions as the final authority. Check word limits, required fields, file types, attachment rules and whether supporting material is optional. The UK IT Industry Awards’ 2026 project-category guidance specified an 80-word project overview, up to 500 words for each of four criteria, and a summary of up to 250 words. It also allowed video material of up to three minutes in relevant project criteria and said supporting material should be brief and additive (2026 category guidance). These are examples for that programme and cycle, not limits to reuse for another award.
Before submitting, check that any attachment is permitted, concise and useful to the criteria. Do not rely on judges opening a large pile of material to find the point: make the case in the entry itself and use supporting evidence to reinforce it.
