Microsoft says it has been discontinued as of August 18, 2026. Edge shopping tools are being consolidated into Copilot, while automatic coupon-code testing is now best handled by a reputable Edge extension.
Check whether the legacy shopping setting is still available
Some Edge installations may still show an older shopping control documented on Microsoft’s Express Checkout support page. It is worth checking, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed way to restore Coupons.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Enter
edge://settings/privacyin the address bar. - Open Search and connected experiences.
- Look for Save time and money with Shopping in Microsoft Edge.
- If the toggle exists, turn it on and restart Edge.
- Sign in to Edge with a Microsoft account, then test a supported retailer or product page.
Microsoft’s Express Checkout documentation says this setting controls shopping assistance and automatic coupon application where that functionality remains available. However, Microsoft’s newer retirement notice explicitly says the Coupons feature has been discontinued. If no coupon prompt appears after enabling the setting, your browser is probably not broken—the former service may simply no longer be available.
What Edge Coupons used to do
The former Edge shopping experience could detect coupon codes on some supported retail websites and, in some cases, test or apply them during checkout. It was part of a broader set of shopping features that also included price comparison, price history, price tracking, cashback, reviews and buying options.

It never guaranteed a discount on every store. Results depended on the retailer, available codes, region and checkout compatibility. Older guides may refer to a blue shopping-tag icon in the address bar, shopping prompts on product pages or automatic checkout flyouts. Microsoft says that shopping icon is being deprecated as shopping capabilities move into Copilot.
Use Copilot for Microsoft’s current shopping tools
Microsoft’s current direction is to surface shopping capabilities through Copilot in Edge. Availability is rolling out gradually, beginning with the United States, so the feature may not be visible on every account or in every region.
- Update Edge to the latest available version.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if Edge prompts you.
- Open a supported product page.
- Select the Copilot icon in Edge’s sidebar.
- Look for shopping information such as price history, price tracking, comparisons, reviews, retailer alternatives, buying options or cashback eligibility.
Copilot Shopping is not necessarily a one-for-one replacement for automatic coupon application. It is better understood as Microsoft’s newer shopping hub, while coupon-code discovery may require a separate extension.
Why the setting or shopping features may be missing
- The Coupons service was retired: this is the most important explanation for a missing Coupons control.
- You are following an outdated guide: old instructions often describe the blue shopping icon and the former standalone experience.
- Edge is outdated: update the browser before troubleshooting further.
- Copilot Shopping is still rolling out: Microsoft does not make every shopping capability available to every user at once.
- Your account or region is unsupported: personalized shopping features may require sign-in, and Microsoft identifies the United States as an initial rollout market.
- Connected experiences are disabled: check Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Search and connected experiences.
- You are using InPrivate or Guest mode: Microsoft says these sessions are not used for personalization.
- A work or school policy blocks the service: managed Edge installations may restrict connected experiences.
- The retailer is unsupported: shopping assistance is not available on every store or checkout.
- Privacy controls interfere: strict tracking prevention, blocked cookies, restricted site data or another extension can prevent shopping tools from detecting checkout content.
Privacy settings that affect shopping personalization
In Edge, the shopping and connected-experiences control is separate from the personalization setting for browsing activity. Microsoft documents the latter at Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Privacy → Allow Microsoft to save your browsing activity including history, usage, favorites, web content, and other browsing data to personalize Microsoft Edge and Microsoft services like ads, search, shopping and news.

This setting may affect personalized shopping recommendations and advertising, but Microsoft does not establish that it is a universal switch for coupon application. Enable it only if you accept the related data-use trade-off. Microsoft says connected experiences may analyze web pages to provide shopping recommendations and offers; review the details in its connected-experiences documentation.
If automatic coupon codes are your main goal
Use the official Edge Add-ons store rather than downloading an extension from an unknown website. To install one:
- Select Extensions near Edge’s address bar.
- Choose Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge.
- Search for the extension and select Get.
- Review its permissions and privacy disclosures.
- Select Add extension.
Examples include Capital One Shopping, which searches for codes, compares prices and offers credits, and PayPal Honey, which searches for and applies available promotional codes. Rakuten is primarily a cashback service, with coupons and deals as additional features. Microsoft’s shopping-extension collection lists other examples, including Coupert, RetailMeNot, Slickdeals, Cently and Keepa.

Coupon extensions search their own databases and may find no valid code. Before installing one, check whether it can read browsing activity, website content, location or purchase-related information; understand how cashback activation and rewards work; and avoid running several competing coupon extensions at the same time, since they can conflict at checkout.

Troubleshoot a missing coupon prompt
- Use a normal Edge window, not InPrivate or Guest mode.
- Confirm that Edge is updated and that you are signed in if the feature requires it.
- Disable competing shopping extensions temporarily.
- Check whether cookies and site data are blocked for the retailer.
- If you accept the privacy trade-off, test with Balanced tracking prevention instead of Strict.
- Try a different supported retailer or product page.
Microsoft notes that blocked cookies can stop pages from displaying or functioning correctly. Re-enable your preferred privacy settings after testing. Do not change the Windows registry, reinstall Windows or search for undocumented flags to bring back a feature Microsoft has retired.
Do not confuse these shopping features
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Coupon discovery or application | Finds promotional codes and may test or apply them at checkout. |
| Express Checkout | Helps fill shipping and payment details; it is not the same as coupon discovery. |
| Copilot Shopping | Provides shopping insights such as comparisons, price history, tracking, reviews and buying options where available. |
| Cashback | Provides a reward after eligible purchases, usually requiring activation and separate eligibility rules. It is not the same as an instant coupon. |
Bottom line
Windows 11 does not have a separate Coupons switch. Microsoft has retired the standalone Edge Coupons feature, so the old shopping-tag instructions are no longer a dependable solution. Check the legacy shopping toggle if it still appears, use Copilot for Microsoft’s newer shopping tools, and choose a carefully reviewed Edge extension if automatic coupon-code testing is essential.

Can Copilot automatically apply coupon codes?
Microsoft’s current documentation describes Copilot as the new entry point for shopping capabilities, but it does not establish that Copilot is a full replacement for the retired automatic Coupons feature. For code testing, use a reputable extension and review its permissions.

Why did the blue shopping icon disappear?
Microsoft says the shopping icon is being deprecated as shopping capabilities are consolidated into Copilot in Edge. Its disappearance is not necessarily a Windows 11 problem.

Why is Express Checkout missing?
Express Checkout may depend on saved personal and payment information, autofill settings, account status, region and rollout availability. Its absence also does not prove that Coupons can be restored.
Can I use Chrome Web Store extensions in Edge?
Yes. Microsoft says Edge can use Chrome Web Store extensions after you allow extensions from other stores. The official Edge Add-ons store is the safer first choice because its listings provide Edge-specific installation and permission information.
How do I disable a shopping extension?
Open Extensions in Edge, choose Manage extensions, and turn off the extension or select Remove. Disable competing extensions first when diagnosing checkout problems.
