You can earn Delta SkyMiles on eligible flights operated or marketed by Delta’s airline partners by adding the traveler’s SkyMiles number to the reservation and meeting the partner’s current fare and flight rules. The exact mileage depends on the airline, fare class, ticketing and marketing details, and the distance Delta uses for the calculation—so check the specific partner chart before you buy.
How to credit a partner flight to SkyMiles
- Identify the flight details. Note the airline marketing the flight, the ticketing carrier where relevant, the operating carrier, and the fare class shown on your ticket receipt or booking details.
- Check Delta’s partner chart. Start at Delta’s airline-partner earning page, select the airline, and confirm that the itinerary and purchased fare class qualify. Read any operating-carrier conditions, ticketing requirements, exclusions, and effective dates.
- Add the traveler’s SkyMiles number. Enter it during booking or add it later in Delta’s My Trips. The person who flies receives the credit, even if someone else paid for the ticket.
- Keep the ticket receipt and boarding pass. They provide the fare and flight details needed if credit does not post. Delta’s partner page says a mileage request may be submitted up to nine months after the flight; confirm the current limit and instructions on that page.
Delta describes earning opportunities with 20+ partner airlines, but the number of partners does not mean every flight or fare on those airlines earns miles.
How Delta calculates miles on partner flights
For partner-marketed flights, Delta’s general rule is to calculate miles from the distance flown and the fare class’s earning percentage, subject to exceptions such as certain Delta-ticketed tickets. The partner-specific chart determines the applicable percentage and whether the fare qualifies. Delta says its calculated distance between the origin and destination is used for mileage calculations, regardless of the actual distance traveled on an individual flight.
Ticketing and marketing details can affect the calculation. Some partner rules use both the marketing carrier—the airline whose code appears on the flight—and the ticketing carrier. On a partner-ticketed itinerary containing both partner-marketed and Delta-marketed segments, Delta says the partner segments follow partner distance-and-fare-class rules, while Delta-marketed segments use a prorated share of the eligible ticket price. Do not assume every segment on one itinerary earns by the same method.

Rates are not universal or permanent. Delta’s SkyMiles Program Rules state: “The amount of mileage earned with airline partners varies from partner to partner and is subject to change, and the mileage rates in place on the date of travel will apply.” Check the chart for your travel date rather than relying on an old rate or a general estimate.
What to verify before buying
- Fare class: Confirm the exact booking class, not just the cabin name. Some classes are excluded, and unlisted classes may earn nothing.
- Marketing, ticketing, and operating carriers: Check each one when the partner chart distinguishes among them. A flight operated by one airline may be marketed or ticketed by another.
- Fare and ticket eligibility: Delta’s rules exclude some tickets and circumstances, including Delta Main Basic tickets, refunded or unused tickets, and free or award tickets for mileage accrual. Partner-specific exclusions also apply.
- One-program-only credit: A flight can be credited to only one loyalty program. If it is recorded in another program, Delta’s rules do not allow that credit to be transferred to SkyMiles afterward.
- Miles versus status treatment: Do not assume a partner fare earns the same redeemable miles or Medallion Qualification Dollar treatment as another partner’s fare. Check the relevant chart and current rules for each.
Example: why the fare-class chart matters
Delta’s Aeromexico partner chart illustrates how much earning can vary by fare class: it shows a J business-class example at 200% total miles, while also stating that unlisted classes do not earn miles. The page displays more than one effective-date table, so that figure is not a universal Aeromexico rate. Check the applicable date, ticketing conditions, and live Aeromexico chart for the specific ticket.

If partner-flight miles do not appear
First check that the traveler’s SkyMiles number is on the reservation and that the fare and flight meet the partner chart’s requirements. Allow for processing time, then use Delta’s mileage request process from its partner earning page if eligible credit is still missing. Keep the boarding pass and ticket receipt available; they help confirm the flown itinerary and purchased fare.
