You can request a copy of your Facebook or Instagram information through Meta’s Accounts Center. Choose the account, select all available information or specific categories, set a date range, and create the export. Download the completed file promptly; if you plan to delete Facebook, retrieve anything you want to keep before starting deletion.
Where to find the download controls
Meta’s Accounts Center is its shared settings area for connected accounts, including Facebook and Instagram. The information download tools may be reached from profile settings or from Your information and permissions in Accounts Center. Labels and options can differ by app, language, region, and rollout, so use the export controls currently shown in your account rather than expecting identical screens everywhere.
Request a copy of your Facebook or Instagram information
- Open Facebook or Instagram settings and go to Accounts Center.
- Open Your information and permissions and choose the download or export option shown there.
- Select the Facebook account or Instagram profile you want to export.
- Choose all available information or select categories, such as photos or videos, if the flow offers that choice. Set a date range if you want to limit the export.
- Choose a download to your device or a transfer destination if one is offered. Select a file format and media quality if those options appear; follow Meta’s on-screen descriptions because availability and behavior can vary.
- Create the export. Check Meta’s notification and the export or download area for a ready notice, then retrieve the file.
Facebook’s help information describes choosing categories and date ranges when requesting a copy. The exact Instagram categories and all available options are not guaranteed to be the same; rely on the controls shown for the specific account you selected. Choose export options for your purpose

How long the export takes and when to download it
The Associated Press reports that an Instagram export may take up to 30 days to prepare and that a completed file is available to download for four days. These are reported limits, not a guaranteed completion schedule; check the ready notice and the current export screen because timing and availability can change. Download before deleting Facebook
If you are deleting Facebook, request and retrieve the information you want to retain first. Meta says that after account deletion you cannot retrieve content you added. An export request is not proof that every record Meta may hold, including information that is deleted, restricted, or associated with other people, will be included.
