Make one logo the first thing people notice, keep secondary copy brief, and build the artwork for the actual bag—not a screen mock-up. Readability and print longevity depend on the fabric, ink or stitch method, placement, and production proof, so confirm those details with the printer before approving a run.
Start with a clear visual hierarchy

Choose one primary logo or mark and give it enough space to read without competing with sponsor names, event details, or decorative elements. Keep secondary copy short
Add only information that belongs on a bag people may use after the event, such as a brief event name or URL. Long sponsor lists and small blocks of text are difficult to scan and can crowd the main mark. There is no universal minimum type size established by the cited guidance, so judge legibility on a full-size proof rather than relying on a screen preview.

Design for the bag’s fabric and color
Fabric texture, density, color, and ink absorption all affect the result. Woven or coarse surfaces can soften edges, obscure fine lines, and make small lettering harder to read; a denser, smoother surface generally gives the printer a better chance of reproducing crisp detail. Confirm the exact material, color, and fabric weight of the bag you plan to order.

Use robust artwork
Favor solid shapes, open letterforms, and clear separation between elements. Bag Printing UK advises keeping lines at least about half a millimetre thick, with heavier lines for coarse canvas or jute. Build the bag color into the palette
For screen printing, a small number of solid colors usually makes the artwork easier to specify. On a light or natural bag, unprinted fabric can serve as part of the design. On a dark bag, ask whether a white or other underbase is needed beneath the colors and include it in the print specification. Do not assume a color shown on a monitor will match ink on fabric.

Choose the print method with the substrate
No method is best for every tote. Match the artwork and bag to the printer’s available process, then confirm the result on the actual material. The European Commission’s promotional-textile guidance identifies serigraphy (screen printing) for cotton and thermal transfer for polyester; a printer should still confirm suitability for its particular bag and process. Place artwork on the flat panel
Keep the essential mark and any critical text within the bag’s flat front or back print area. Seams, gusset folds, handle attachments, and edges can complicate alignment or application. In the production brief, specify which side to print, the intended print width, and the position relative to the bag’s edges. Have the printer confirm its printable area for the exact bag style.

- Send production-ready artwork. Supply a vector file if available, outline fonts, and identify any elements that must not be resized or recolored.
- Specify dimensions and color. State the intended print width, placement, and color references. Ask how the printer will handle underbase ink, fabric showing through, or colors affected by the bag material.
- Check scale at full size. Print the artwork at its intended size and hold it against the bag or an unprinted sample. Check whether the logo and essential text are readable from arm’s length.
- Request a physical sample when accuracy matters. A digital preview cannot fully show how ink and fabric color interact. Review a printed sample or production proof if precise brand color or fine detail is important, and resolve changes before approving the run.
Set durability expectations before ordering
Tell the printer whether the bags are quick event giveaways or intended for repeated use, and discuss likely handling and washing. Intended lifespan can affect method choice, but the cited guidance does not establish a guaranteed number of washes or independently tested lifetime for any process. Ask the vendor what it can support for the specific combination of fabric, artwork, and print method, and base approval on the sample rather than a blanket durability claim.
