The current no-code way to create an NFT on OpenSea is OpenSea Studio. For a single artwork or a small collection that you want to own immediately, go to Studio → Create new → Collection or item—also labeled Create Collection in some versions of the interface. OpenSea deploys a collection smart contract and lets you mint an ERC-1155 NFT directly into your wallet.
If you want members of your audience to mint NFTs directly into their own wallets, choose Create Drop instead. Drops use ERC-721 contracts and add public sales, presales, allowlists, bulk uploads, editions, and reveal mechanics.

What creating an NFT on OpenSea actually involves
An NFT is not simply an image uploaded to a marketplace. The complete process has several layers:
- Media: The image, video, audio file, animation, or other digital asset.
- Metadata: The information that describes the item, such as its name, description, media reference, external link, and traits.
- Smart contract: The blockchain program that defines the collection, token standard, supply behavior, and certain creator-earnings rules.
- NFT or token: The on-chain item identified by a token ID and associated with a wallet address.
- Marketplace listing: A separate offer to sell the NFT at a price and for a specified period.
OpenSea describes minting as publishing the NFT to the blockchain. The ownership record and contract activity are on-chain, but the complete media file does not necessarily live on the blockchain. Depending on how the item is created and stored, metadata or media may be fully on-chain, stored through IPFS or Arweave, hosted centrally, or referenced elsewhere. OpenSea explains the possible storage labels in its metadata field guide, while its metadata standards describe fields such as name, description, image, animation_url, attributes, background_color, and external_url.

The practical lifecycle is:
media → metadata → collection contract → mint → wallet ownership → listing → sale
Minting does not automatically list the NFT, guarantee a buyer, transfer copyright, or place the collection in OpenSea’s featured Drops Calendar.
Choose between a Collection or item and a Drop
This is the most important decision before opening Studio. A single NFT still belongs to a collection contract; a collection does not have to be a large generative project. You can create a one-item collection.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

| Let buyers mint directly into their own wallets | Create Drop / scheduled Drop | Community members | ERC-721 | Established audiences, presales, public mints, bulk collections, and reveal projects |
Use Collection or item when you are starting out
Choose the creator-minted route if you want to own the token immediately, are minting one artwork or a manageable number of items, and do not need a public mint page or allowlist. OpenSea says this route does not support bulk uploads and has no reveal process; items become visible after minting.
The creator pays the gas for deploying the contract and minting the item. A supply of one produces one copy, but the token is still ERC-1155—not ERC-721.
Use a Drop only when you need a launch mechanism
Choose a Drop if buyers should pay to mint into their own wallets, you need presale stages or wallet limits, you are preparing a limited or open edition, you want to upload many files and metadata records, or you need a pre-reveal and reveal process. Drops are open access and do not require an application, although creating one does not guarantee placement on OpenSea’s Drops Calendar.
For a first NFT or a small community, the simpler Collection or item route is usually the better choice. A Drop introduces more irreversible settings, more launch preparation, and more ways for metadata, supply, or sale scheduling to go wrong.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What to prepare before you start
1. The media and the right to use it
Prepare the final image, animation, video, audio, or other asset. More importantly, confirm that you made it or have written permission to reproduce, distribute, display, and sell it as an NFT. A popular character, stock image, photograph, music track, logo, or commissioned work may have rights restrictions even if you can upload the file.
2. An OpenSea-compatible wallet
You can connect an existing compatible wallet or create an OpenSea email wallet. OpenSea’s email login uses Privy to create self-custodial EVM and Solana wallets. For Studio NFT creation, you need to use a supported EVM blockchain; the current compatibility page says Solana is supported for token swaps, not NFTs.
An email wallet is convenient for a beginner, but it has trade-offs. The email address is permanently tied to the account, and losing access to that email can mean losing access to the wallet. OpenSea also says the email login cannot currently be used on other websites as a normal wallet login. You may be able to export the wallet’s private key later, but that key must never be shared. Read OpenSea’s email account instructions and wallet guidance before choosing this route.
An existing self-custodial wallet is generally more portable across Web3 applications, but it places the responsibility for seed-phrase and private-key security on you.

OpenSea’s current compatibility page lists Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Zora, Base, Blast, Sei, B3, Berachain, Flow, ApeChain, Soneium, Shape, Unichain, Ronin, Abstract, GUNZ, HyperEVM, Somnia, Monad, and other networks. The list is subject to change, so check OpenSea’s current blockchain page immediately before deployment.
Do not choose a chain solely because a tutorial calls it the cheapest or best. Compare:
- Where your intended buyers already hold funds.
- The native gas token and likely transaction cost.
- Wallet compatibility and the availability of a reliable blockchain explorer.
- Marketplace liquidity and discoverability.
- Whether the chain supports the creator-earnings behavior and sales venues you need.
- Whether the route can be changed later. Treat deployment as a permanent chain decision; OpenSea explicitly says a Drop’s chain cannot be updated after deployment.
You need enough of the chain’s native gas asset for deployment, minting, and possibly later approvals or listings. An email-login wallet may be able to pay fees with supported stablecoins through account abstraction on some chains, but this is not universal. The feature applies to email-login wallets, not MetaMask or WalletConnect wallets, and a one-time delegation may be required per chain. See OpenSea’s native-token gas explanation.
4. Final contract and collection decisions
Before deploying, decide on the collection’s contract name, token symbol, logo, display name, item supply, description, and creator-earnings settings. The contract name and token symbol are deployment values visible on-chain and cannot be changed afterward. The logo can be changed later. NFTs also cannot later be moved between collections, so do not deploy a collection casually and plan to reorganize it later.

How to create and mint an NFT directly to your wallet
The following is the current creator-minted Studio route. OpenSea’s labels may vary slightly as the interface is updated, but select the option for minting directly to your wallet—not the Drop option.
Step 1: Connect your wallet and open Studio
- Go to OpenSea and connect your compatible wallet or log in with email.
- Select Studio from the left-hand sidebar.
- Click Create new.
- Select Collection or item. Some accounts may show Create Collection.
This route creates the contract and then mints items into the creator’s connected wallet. OpenSea’s current creation instructions are in How do I create an NFT?.
Step 2: Deploy the collection smart contract
Studio asks for basic contract information:
- Logo image: The collection’s visual identifier. It can be changed after deployment.
- Contract name: The on-chain collection name. Proofread it because it cannot be changed after deployment.
- Token symbol: A short identifier, typically four to seven characters. It is also immutable after deployment.
- EVM blockchain: The network where this collection will exist.
Click Publish Contract only after checking the chain, contract name, symbol, and connected wallet. Your wallet will show a transaction-signature request and a gas estimate. Approving it deploys the collection contract; it is not just saving a draft on OpenSea.
Step 3: Edit the OpenSea-facing collection details
After deployment, you can update the marketplace-facing information, including:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Display name and description.
- Category.
- OpenSea URL or slug where available.
- Explicit or sensitive-content setting.
- Whether trait-based collection offers are enabled.
- A collection collaborator.
- The collection overview page.
The OpenSea display name can differ from the immutable contract name. A collaborator may change important collection settings, but OpenSea says collaborators cannot add new items or change creator-earnings recipient addresses and percentages. Review the collection-editing instructions before giving anyone collaborator access.
Step 4: Set creator earnings
Open the Creator Earnings section, add the payout address, choose a percentage, and select whether to enforce earnings when the contract and venue support enforcement. You will need to approve a wallet signature.
OpenSea currently caps creator earnings at 10%. Collections created in OpenSea Studio after April 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time are eligible for enforcement through OpenSea’s supported mechanism. This does not mean that every marketplace must honor the percentage.
Optional earnings are paid only when a seller elects to include them. Enforced earnings can improve collection-level enforcement on supported venues, but may reduce compatibility with other secondary marketplaces. OpenSea says its enforcement works on OpenSea and marketplaces powered by LimitBreak’s Payment Processor, currently including Magic Eden; other venues need their own enforcement method. Read the current creator-earnings help page and technical enforcement documentation.
Step 5: Upload the media
Open the Media & Metadata or Upload area. OpenSea’s current Creator FAQ lists these direct single-item upload formats for the Collection or item route:
- JPG
- PNG
- GIF
- SVG
- MP4
The direct-upload maximum is currently 50 MB, and all items in one Studio collection must use the same file type. Do not assume that every format OpenSea can display is accepted by the basic Studio uploader.
OpenSea’s broader metadata documentation separately discusses formats including GLB, GLTF, WEBM, MP4, M4V, OGV, OGG, MP3, WAV, and OGA for metadata-based media attachments. Audio, 3D models, HTML, or unusual video formats may require externally hosted or decentralized metadata and a custom contract or another creation workflow rather than a basic Studio upload. The Creator FAQ and metadata standards are more reliable than a general statement that OpenSea accepts every media type.
OpenSea’s developer documentation recommends a minimum image size of 3,000 × 3,000 pixels. That is a recommendation, not the same thing as a Studio upload requirement.
Step 6: Add the item information
Enter the item’s:
- Name.
- Supply.
- Description, if useful for explaining the work or its license.
- External link, such as your portfolio or project website.
- Traits, if attributes help buyers understand or filter the item.
A supply of 1 creates one copy. A supply above 1 creates multiple copies of the same ERC-1155 item. OpenSea says a Collection or item collection can contain up to 10,000 individual ERC-1155 NFTs, and an ERC-1155 item can have up to 20,000 copies. A one-copy ERC-1155 item is unique in practical ownership terms, but it does not become an ERC-721.
Step 7: Mint the item
- Click Mint.
- Review the wallet transaction, network, destination, and gas estimate.
- Approve the transaction in your wallet.
- Wait for blockchain confirmation.
Successful minting writes the token to the selected blockchain and sends it to the creator’s wallet. A failed or reverted transaction can still consume gas; gas is paid to the blockchain network, not refunded by OpenSea.
The old OpenSea lazy-minting tool is not available for creating new items. OpenSea’s historical notice gave October 3, 2023 as the effective date, so older tutorials promising free lazy minting are stale.

How to create an OpenSea Drop
A Drop is a launch system, not merely a larger version of the single-item mint. The buyer’s NFT generally does not exist in that buyer’s wallet until the buyer completes a mint.
Drop setup sequence
- Open Studio → Create new → Create Drop.
- Add the logo image, contract name, and token symbol.
- Select an EVM blockchain.
- Choose a proxy or standard contract where OpenSea offers the choice.
- Deploy the smart contract and approve the wallet transaction.
- Edit the collection details.
- Set creator earnings and the payout wallet.
- Upload the media and metadata.
- Choose a limited or open edition.
- Set the supply, public-sale start date, price, duration, and wallet mint limit.
- Add presale stages and allowlists if needed.
- Build the landing or overview page.
- Review every setting and publish the Drop.
OpenSea’s detailed Studio comparison is in its Studio guide. The Drops documentation should be checked for current interface requirements.
Limited edition versus open edition
- Limited edition: The total supply is fixed.
- Open edition: There is no fixed mint cap during the mint window. The final collection size equals the number of NFTs minted before the window closes.
Every Drop must include a public-sale stage. The public stage must be the final stage, cannot be deleted, and can last no longer than 365 days. Presales and allowlists should be arranged before that mandatory public stage.

Do not change supply casually
Supply is one of the most consequential Drop settings. During an active mint, reducing supply is permanent, and OpenSea Studio cannot increase the total supply after minting begins. Increasing supply directly through the contract can lead to delisting for violating OpenSea’s terms. Treat the supply, wallet limit, price, and schedule as final launch decisions.
Prepare bulk media and metadata carefully
Drops support bulk media and metadata uploads. OpenSea currently documents support for up to 10,000 media files, with JPG, PNG, SVG, or GIF files, plus a metadata file mapping files to token IDs and traits. The current Studio CSV workflow supports string traits, not numeric traits.
Before uploading, create a local validation checklist:
- Every intended token ID has exactly one matching media record.
- File names and token IDs map consistently.
- Traits use the expected spelling and capitalization.
- No sensitive or copyrighted material was included accidentally.
- Pre-reveal and final media are clearly separated.
- The collection has been tested with a small sample before a full launch, where the workflow permits it.
Understand reveal mechanics
Before reveal, buyers generally see a pre-reveal image or sample gallery rather than the final individual NFT media. Metadata can be reviewed and edited before reveal.
After reveal, OpenSea says Drop settings and item metadata can no longer be changed. The reveal uploads items to IPFS and requires a wallet signature to complete. For an instant-reveal or randomized collection, a separate metadata server may be needed; uploading a batch of final files is not the same as creating a random reveal system.
If a minted Drop still shows the pre-reveal image, check the project’s reveal schedule and refresh metadata after the reveal. Do not promise buyers that a reveal is complete until the final metadata is visible.
Proxy versus standard Drop contract
OpenSea documents two contract choices:
- A proxy contract costs approximately 10% of the gas cost of deploying a standard contract, according to OpenSea’s estimate, but adds overhead to minting, sales, and transfers.
- A standard contract may become more economical above approximately 1,500 transactions, again according to OpenSea’s estimate.
These are OpenSea estimates, not universal measurements for every chain or gas market. If you expect a high-volume launch, compare the projected deployment, mint, sale, and transfer activity rather than choosing solely on the initial deployment price. Once a Drop is deployed, its chain cannot be updated.
How much does it cost to create and sell an NFT?
There is no honest universal dollar price because gas changes by blockchain, network congestion, transaction complexity, and wallet type. Budget by category instead of believing that OpenSea creation is completely free.
| Cost | When it applies | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|
| Contract deployment gas | When you deploy a Collection or item contract or a Drop contract | Blockchain validators or network participants |
| Mint gas | When a creator mints a Collection or item NFT; buyers generally pay the mint transaction for a Drop | The blockchain network |
| OpenSea creation fee | Creating a Collection or item | Currently 0%, according to OpenSea’s fee page |
| OpenSea secondary-sale fee | When an NFT is sold through OpenSea’s marketplace | Currently 1% of the sale, according to the current Help Center page |
| OpenSea primary Drop fee | When buyers mint NFTs in a primary Drop | Typically 10% of the primary mint sale price |
| Creator earnings | When configured and included or enforced according to the contract and venue | The designated creator-earnings payout address |
| Other provider fees | Some swaps, payment methods, or wallet services | The relevant third-party provider |
OpenSea’s current fee page states a 1% NFT selling fee, a 10% fee for NFTs minted in a primary Drop, and no OpenSea fee for Create a Collection, although gas still applies. OpenSea fees can change. Older developer documentation still contains examples using a 2.5% marketplace fee, but OpenSea’s changelog records the change to 1% on September 15, 2025. Use the current Help Center fee page and fee update, not the outdated example.
Gas may also apply to collection approvals, buying, transferring, accepting offers, canceling listings, editing Studio items, and token approvals. A failed transaction can still consume gas, and OpenSea cannot refund blockchain gas. See What are gas fees? and Who pays gas fees?.

For a primary Drop, OpenSea says it typically retains 10% of the primary mint sale price and the payout wallet receives the remaining 90%, with earnings paid in real time as users mint. For example, on a hypothetical 0.1-unit mint price, a 10% platform fee would be 0.01 units and the remaining 0.09 units would go to the payout wallet before considering other applicable costs. That example is illustrative; confirm the current fee and payout screen before launch.
How to list the minted NFT for sale
Minting puts the NFT in your wallet. It does not create a sale listing. To offer it for sale, use one of these paths:
- From your profile, hover over the NFT and choose List item.
- From the item page, switch to Sell mode and choose List for sale.
- From the collection page, select owned items and choose List item.
The listing form can include:
- A fixed price.
- A listing duration.
- A private or reserved buyer wallet address.
- The estimated net proceeds after fees.
- Creator earnings, where available.
- The quantity for a multi-copy ERC-1155 item.
OpenSea currently documents a minimum listing duration of 15 minutes and a maximum duration of six months. Check the final net-proceeds figure before signing.
The first listing in a collection may require a collection-approval transaction and gas. After approval, later fixed-price listings may be gas-free, depending on the transaction and marketplace conditions. Buyers generally pay gas for fixed-price purchases; sellers pay gas when accepting offers. A sale occurs only when a buyer fills the listing or you accept an offer.
If an NFT returns to your wallet, an old inactive listing may still be fillable if its original conditions remain valid. Review your profile’s Inactive listings and cancel unwanted orders. Cancellation can require a blockchain transaction and gas; OpenSea’s listing-cancellation guide explains the process.
Can you edit an NFT after minting?
For Collection or item NFTs, Studio items can be edited after minting with a blockchain signature and gas, subject to the fields and workflow OpenSea currently permits. Editing marketplace-facing collection information is different from changing immutable contract values: the contract name and token symbol cannot be changed, and editing an OpenSea display name does not rewrite the deployed contract.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Copyright, ownership, and buyer rights
Minting an NFT does not automatically transfer copyright. The token, the associated media file, and copyright are separate things.
A buyer may own the token recorded at a particular contract address without owning the copyright in the artwork, the original file, the right to reproduce it, or the right to use it commercially. Those rights depend on a written assignment or license and applicable law. The U.S. Copyright Office explains that copyright ownership is distinct from ownership of the physical or digital object embodying the work in 17 U.S.C. §§ 201–204. The joint USPTO and U.S. Copyright Office NFT report also distinguishes the token from its associated digital file and intellectual-property rights.
Before minting, confirm that you have permission to use every element. Before selling, state what the buyer receives: token ownership only, a personal-use license, commercial rights, copyright ownership, or another defined license. This is general legal information, not individualized legal advice.

Troubleshooting common OpenSea problems
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The mint button or wallet transaction fails | Insufficient funds, wrong network, or a wallet or contract failure | Confirm the selected chain and wallet balance, inspect the transaction in the relevant blockchain explorer, and retry only after identifying the cause. Use OpenSea’s transaction-failure guide. |
| Gas was charged but the mint failed | The transaction reverted, the Drop sold out, or another buyer took the final supply during confirmation | Refresh the Drop page and check whether supply remains. Failed blockchain gas is generally not refundable. See Why did my mint fail?. |
| The image or traits do not appear | Metadata has not refreshed or contains an error | Use Refresh metadata on the item page. If it remains unavailable, inspect the metadata and contact official OpenSea support. Do not mint a replacement until you know whether the original token exists. |
| A Drop still shows the pre-reveal image | The reveal has not occurred or metadata indexing is pending | Check the project’s reveal schedule and refresh metadata after the reveal. OpenSea’s Drop guide explains the lifecycle. |
| The new collection cannot be found in search | Search indexing and ranking are not immediate | Use the direct collection URL, allow time for indexing, and do not assume that lack of search visibility means the contract failed. |
| You cannot change the contract name or symbol | Those values were written during deployment | They are immutable. If the error is unacceptable, a new collection may be necessary. The OpenSea display-name edit does not change the contract. |
| You cannot add another media type later | Studio requires a consistent file type within a direct-upload collection | Start a separate collection or use a workflow appropriate for externally hosted or custom metadata. |
| A buyer asks you to pay a validation, digitizing, or gas fee | Almost certainly a scam | Stop communicating. A legitimate buyer can purchase a listed NFT without asking the creator to send extra funds. |
| The NFT or collection is delisted | Possible intellectual-property infringement, misleadingly similar collection name, sensitive content, or another Terms violation | Delisting removes or restricts OpenSea display; it does not remove the token from the blockchain. Review OpenSea’s delisting policy and contact official support if the action is mistaken. |
Security checklist before signing anything
Never pay someone who claims to be an OpenSea buyer or support agent in order to complete a sale.
- Use only opensea.io and OpenSea’s official Help Center channels.
- Never share a seed phrase, private key, password, or wallet authentication code.
- OpenSea will not initiate a social-media direct message asking for funds.
- OpenSea will not ask a creator to send money to complete a sale.
- Do not sign a transaction reached through a suspicious email, advertisement, or direct message.
- Check the website domain, transaction origin, network, recipient, and requested permissions in the wallet prompt.
- Use a hardware wallet for significant assets.
- Review and revoke unnecessary smart-contract approvals through a trusted wallet-security tool.
- Assume blockchain transfers and many approvals are difficult or impossible to undo. Verify before signing rather than relying on a later reversal.
OpenSea’s safety guide contains additional warnings. Treat any unexpected request to “verify,” “unlock,” “digitize,” or “validate” an NFT by sending cryptocurrency as a scam signal.
Common outdated advice to ignore
- Free lazy minting: OpenSea’s old lazy-minting creation tool is no longer available for new items.
- OpenSea always charges 2.5%: The current consumer Help Center fee is 1% for NFT sales; older developer examples are outdated.
- Every OpenSea-supported chain supports NFTs: The current compatibility page says Solana is supported for swaps, not NFTs, and Studio creation requires an EVM chain.
- One NFT does not need a collection: Even a one-item project uses a collection smart contract.
- Minting equals selling: Minting creates ownership in a wallet; listing creates an offer, and a sale requires a buyer or accepted offer.
- Royalties are always guaranteed: OpenSea calls them creator earnings, and they may be optional or enforced with narrower marketplace compatibility.
- Creating a Drop guarantees promotion: Drop creation does not guarantee OpenSea Calendar placement or sales.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create one NFT without creating a collection?
No. OpenSea requires an NFT to belong to a collection smart contract, but that collection can contain only one item. Use Studio → Create new → Collection or item and set the supply to 1.
Is it free to create an NFT on OpenSea?
OpenSea currently charges no creation fee for the Collection or item route, but you still need to pay blockchain gas for contract deployment and minting. A primary Drop also has a current 10% OpenSea fee, and secondary NFT sales currently have a 1% OpenSea fee. Fees can change.
Do I need cryptocurrency to create an NFT?
You need a wallet and a way to pay blockchain transaction costs. Email onboarding can create a self-custodial wallet, and supported email wallets may pay gas with stablecoins on some chains. This does not apply universally and does not remove the underlying transaction cost.

Can I use email instead of MetaMask?
Yes. OpenSea can create an email wallet through Privy. The email is permanently tied to the account, and the wallet has less interoperability than a conventional wallet login. Protect access to the email account and never share the wallet’s private key.
What is the difference between minting and listing?
Minting publishes the token to the blockchain and places it in a wallet. Listing creates a marketplace offer to sell it. You can mint without listing, and listing does not guarantee that anyone will buy.
Can I change the collection name after deployment?
You can generally edit the OpenSea-facing display name, but the contract name and token symbol written during deployment cannot be changed. The display name does not rewrite the blockchain contract.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Can I move an NFT to another OpenSea collection later?
No. OpenSea’s creation documentation says NFTs cannot later be moved between collections. Choose the contract and collection carefully before minting.
Can I bulk-upload NFTs through Create Collection?
No. The Collection or item route does not support bulk uploads. Drops support bulk media and metadata uploads, currently documented for up to 10,000 media files.
Can I add audio or 3D files?
The basic Collection or item uploader currently lists JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, and MP4, with a 50 MB maximum for direct single-item uploads. OpenSea’s broader metadata standards support additional media references, but audio, 3D, HTML, and other formats may require external metadata or a custom workflow.
What happens if my mint fails?
The transaction may revert or a Drop may sell out while your transaction is pending. Gas can still be consumed even when minting fails. Check the wallet transaction and remaining supply before retrying, and do not assume that a charged gas fee means the NFT was created.
Do NFT buyers receive copyright in the artwork?
Not automatically. The token, media file, and copyright are separate. Buyer rights depend on a written transfer or license and applicable law. State the rights clearly in your project terms.
Are OpenSea creator earnings guaranteed?
No blanket guarantee applies. Optional earnings are paid when a seller includes them. Enforced earnings may work on OpenSea and supported venues but can reduce compatibility with other marketplaces.
Can I edit the NFT after minting?
Collection or item NFTs may be editable through Studio with a wallet signature and gas, subject to the available workflow. Drop metadata and settings become uneditable after reveal, so check everything before revealing.
Why is my collection not visible in OpenSea search?
New collections may take time to index and may not rank prominently. Use the direct collection URL and allow time for indexing. Search visibility does not determine whether the contract or token exists on-chain.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow do I cancel a stale OpenSea listing?
Review your profile’s inactive listings and cancel unwanted orders. A stale listing may remain fillable if its original conditions are still met, and cancellation may require a blockchain transaction and gas.
The Bottom Line
For a first NFT, use OpenSea Studio → Create new → Collection or item, deploy the contract on a supported EVM chain, mint the item into your wallet, verify its contract and token ID, and list it separately if you want to sell it. Choose a Drop only when buyers need to mint directly, or when you need presales, allowlists, bulk uploads, editions, and a reveal.
Budget for gas, proofread immutable contract details, distinguish creator earnings from guaranteed royalties, confirm your copyright and licensing rights, and never send money or wallet credentials to a supposed buyer or support agent.
