To convert Monero (XMR) to Bitcoin (BTC), use a service or wallet that explicitly supports the XMR-to-BTC direction, provide a Bitcoin receiving address, and send only the exact XMR amount and deposit transaction requested for that order. Confirm the live payout, fees, minimum, quote expiry, and refund terms before sending: a swap is not reversible just because you entered the wrong address or direction.
What you need before starting
- XMR in a wallet you control: You will need to send the amount requested by the swap service.
- A Bitcoin receiving address: Make sure it is an address for BTC on the Bitcoin network, not an address for another coin or network.
- A route that supports the exact direction: Confirm that XMR is the asset you send and BTC is the asset you receive. Availability may depend on the service, app, or your location.
VeriSwap’s guide describes a service-order flow for this conversion. Its stated terms are a 0.5% service fee included in the displayed amount, a 15-minute quote validity, and a $50 minimum. The guide is marked last verified September 8, 2026; these are the provider’s published terms, not independently tested or guaranteed current. How to convert XMR to BTC through a service
- Prepare your Bitcoin address. Copy it from the wallet where you want to receive BTC. Verify the address and network before using it.
- Open an order for XMR to BTC. Select XMR as the deposit currency and BTC as the payout currency. Do not assume that a page offering both currencies supports this direction.
- Enter the trade details and review the quote. Check the BTC amount you will receive after the service fee, the minimum, any network fees, the quote expiration, and the terms for a delayed or failed order.
- Confirm the destination address and deposit instructions. Use the Bitcoin address for the payout and the exact XMR deposit address and amount supplied for that order.
- Send the requested XMR from your wallet. Follow the service’s instructions precisely. Sending a different amount or sending after the quote expires may affect how the order is handled.
- Track the order through payout. Wait for the service to process the deposit and send BTC, then verify the transaction in your receiving wallet or a Bitcoin block explorer.

Check these details before sending
- Direction and pair: Verify the order explicitly says XMR in and BTC out.
- Final payout: Compare the displayed BTC amount with the fees and terms shown for the order. Do not treat a wallet’s market reference rate as a guaranteed swap rate.
- Quote and minimum: Check how long the quote remains valid and whether your trade meets the current minimum.
- Network and address: Use the supplied XMR deposit instructions and a valid Bitcoin receiving address. Never substitute one network’s address for the other.
- Custody and recovery: Understand whether your XMR is sent to a provider or partner, and what the provider says to do if the deposit is late, short, or sent after expiry.
- Availability and disclosures: Confirm the pair is available to you and review the provider’s current terms and privacy information.
Why BTC-to-XMR atomic-swap instructions do not apply
“Atomic swap” describes a method, not a guarantee that software supports both directions. The cited COMIT project and Atomic Monero instructions tell users to deposit BTC and receive XMR. That is the reverse of this conversion, so those steps cannot be used as an XMR-to-BTC guide. The COMIT repository was archived on August 23, 2026, and describes itself as unmaintained.
