Short answer: choose the Samsung phone that fits your use, budget and local support terms—not one chosen from headlines about Samsung’s earnings. For most buyers, the decision is between a conventional Galaxy S26-series phone, a lower-priced A-series model, or a Z-series foldable whose format you genuinely want. Samsung’s mobile business reported pressure in the second quarter of 2026, but its reported revenue growth, rising smartphone share and continuing product launches do not show that Samsung phones are poor purchases or that support is ending.
The lineup and prices below use Samsung’s U.S. catalog and February 2026 launch information as reference points. Samsung sells different model numbers, storage versions, radios, warranties and prices by country. Before paying, verify the exact local model, unlocked or carrier status, bands, eSIM support, stock, return policy, warranty and software-support terms.

What “struggling” means for Samsung phone buyers
Samsung’s financial results show a business under cost and profitability pressure, not a phone division that has stopped making worthwhile devices. In its second-quarter 2026 results, Samsung reported KRW 33.2 trillion in consolidated revenue and a KRW 0.7 trillion operating loss for the combined Mobile eXperience (MX) and Networks businesses. Those figures are not a handset-only income statement. Samsung said revenue grew year over year because of Galaxy S26 sales and strong Galaxy A-series momentum, while earnings declined because component costs were elevated across the industry.

That distinction matters to a buyer. A quarterly loss can lead to tighter spending, price changes or fewer experiments, but it does not establish that a particular Galaxy phone is unreliable, that updates will stop, or that service centers will disappear. Judge the handset on its price, capabilities, support commitment and ownership terms.

Samsung’s first-quarter 2026 interim report, citing TechInsights, put its global smartphone unit share at 21.3% in 1Q 2026, 19.2% in 2025, and 18.3% in 2024. The same report forecast that 2026 smartphone demand could decrease slightly to the 140-million-unit range as higher component costs pushed average selling prices upward. That is Samsung’s forecast, not a final full-year result.
Samsung also said it would emphasize flagship sales around the new Z8 and S26 series and pursue efficiency initiatives to offset rising costs. This is management’s plan, not a guarantee of future prices, stock or model availability.
One October 2026 Android Central report, citing the Korean outlet Money Today, said suppliers had allegedly been asked to reduce fourth-quarter smartphone production by 20–30%, potentially moving output from an earlier expectation of 270 million units toward the 200-million range. Samsung had not confirmed that request in the official material reviewed for this guide. It is therefore not evidence of an impending shortage and not a reason to buy in a panic.

The Samsung phones available in the U.S. catalog snapshot
Samsung’s U.S. catalog accessed in October 2026 listed the following families. The catalog establishes that these products are part of Samsung’s U.S. range, but it does not provide a complete, comparable live price and specification sheet for every model.
| Family or model | Form and intended buyer | Storage or price information established in the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | Standard-size conventional flagship for buyers who want high-end features without the largest chassis | 256GB and 512GB announced; U.S. launch starting price $899.99 |
| Galaxy S26+ | Larger conventional flagship for buyers who value a bigger display and battery class | 256GB and 512GB announced; U.S. launch starting price $1,099.99 |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | Top conventional model for camera and zoom ambitions, maximum storage and premium features | 256GB, 512GB and 1TB announced; U.S. launch starting price $1,299.99 |
| Galaxy S26 FE | Lower-priced S-family candidate; compare its exact local price with discounted flagships | Current catalog listing; comparable launch price and full specification set not stated in the supplied material |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 | Foldable that opens into a larger screen; makes sense for multitasking and folding-screen use | Current catalog listing; price and complete specifications not stated |
| Galaxy Z Flip8 | Compact foldable that prioritizes a small folded footprint and flip format | Current catalog listing; price and complete specifications not stated |
| Galaxy A57 5G, A37 5G, A27 5G and A17 5G | Value-oriented A-series candidates; compare against older discounted S phones | Current catalog listings; model-specific prices and complete specifications not stated |
The S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra were announced on February 25, 2026, with general availability beginning March 11. The prices in the table are historical U.S. launch starting prices, not guaranteed October prices or prices in another country. Associated Press coverage rounded those launch figures to $899, $1,099 and $1,299; Samsung’s announcement gives the exact amounts shown above.
Choose the phone’s shape before comparing specifications
Conventional Galaxy S phones
A slab-style S26, S26+ or S26 Ultra behaves like a conventional smartphone and works with ordinary cases and charging accessories. Start here if you do not have a specific reason to own a folding screen. The standard S26 is the logical size to investigate when one-handed use and a lower flagship entry price matter. The S26+ is the larger-screen step-up. The Ultra is a specialist purchase: its premium only makes sense if its camera and zoom capabilities, larger display, storage options or built-in privacy viewing solve a real problem for you.

Galaxy Z Fold8
Choose a Fold8 only when opening the phone into a larger screen improves your routine—such as reading documents, using two apps side by side or working in a tablet-like layout. A foldable is a format decision first and a processor or camera decision second. Confirm the local warranty, repair process and accidental-damage coverage before purchase, because a more complex hinge and flexible display make service terms especially important.
Galaxy Z Flip8
A Flip8 suits someone who wants a full smartphone experience that folds into a smaller closed shape. It is not automatically a better value than an S-series phone; the benefit is pocketability and the flip interaction. Compare the exact local price and insurance cost with a conventional model of similar performance.
Match each S26 tier to a concrete need
Galaxy S26: the compact flagship starting point
The S26 is the sensible first comparison for a buyer who wants a current flagship but does not need the Ultra’s premium features. Samsung announced 256GB and 512GB versions. Select storage according to how long you keep phones, how much video you record and whether you rely on cloud storage; do not pay for 512GB merely because it is the larger number.
Samsung describes the S26 family as making artificial intelligence work quietly in the background. TM Roh, Samsung’s chief executive, president and head of the Device eXperience Division, said: “With the Galaxy S26 series, we focused on making AI feel effortless, working quietly in the background so people can focus on what matters.” That is a product-design statement from Samsung, not independent evidence that every AI feature will be useful to you. Try the functions you expect to use and check which are available in your language and region.
Galaxy S26+: pay for the larger experience only if you use it
The S26+ occupies the middle of the conventional flagship range. Its announced 256GB and 512GB options and higher launch price are justified only when a larger display, greater physical size or related battery capacity matters to your daily use. If you mostly message, call, browse and take occasional photographs, compare the S26’s actual local price before assuming the larger model is a better deal.
Galaxy S26 Ultra: a specialist flagship, not the default
The Ultra launched with 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options. Samsung identifies a built-in Privacy Display as an S26 Ultra feature, and its UK release highlights Nightography video and a horizontal-lock option in Super Steady. Those are manufacturer-described features. They can be valuable if you regularly view sensitive information in public, shoot in difficult light or need more stable video, but they do not make the Ultra the right choice for every buyer.

Buy the Ultra when you can name the feature that earns the premium: sustained camera and zoom use, the largest screen, 1TB storage or Privacy Display. If your reason is simply that it is the most expensive model, keep the money or apply it to protection, storage or a longer ownership period instead.
Galaxy S26 FE: investigate the trade-offs, not the label
The S26 FE is positioned as a lower-cost member of the S family. Android Central’s review reported that its reviewer saw trade-offs including a display reused from recent FE models and slow charging. Those are one reviewer’s observations, not a test conducted for this article, so check the phone in person or read multiple independent reviews before deciding.
Compare an FE against both the current A-series and an older discounted S-series phone. The FE is not automatically the cheapest or the best value in every country; the decisive evidence is the exact local price, storage, warranty and remaining software support.
When an A-series phone is the better financial choice
The A57 5G, A37 5G, A27 5G and A17 5G are Samsung’s value-tier candidates in the U.S. catalog. Choose among them by identifying the lowest tier that covers your needs for screen quality, camera performance, storage, cellular connectivity and update life. The catalog snapshot does not establish live prices or a complete specification comparison, so avoid assigning a universal “best” label.
Compare an A-series model with a discounted older S phone on equal terms:
- Use the same condition: new, refurbished or used.
- Compare unlocked prices with unlocked prices, and financed carrier offers with equivalent carrier offers.
- Check battery health and return rights on used or refurbished devices.
- Record the remaining Android and security-update period for each exact model and region.
- Include a case, charger, insurance and repair exposure in the total cost.
An older flagship can offer features you value more than a new mid-range phone, but only if its battery, warranty and remaining support justify the lower price. Conversely, a new A-series phone may be the safer purchase when a long support window and a fresh battery matter more than flagship cameras.

A step-by-step way to choose your Samsung phone
- Set a total-price ceiling. Decide the maximum amount after trade-in, taxes, activation fees, financing charges and insurance. Compare the total paid, not just a monthly carrier figure.
- Choose slab or foldable. If you do not specifically want a folding screen for multitasking or compactness, begin with the S26 or A-series rather than paying a format premium.
- Write down two must-have features. Examples include compact size, a larger display, advanced camera and zoom, Privacy Display, 1TB storage or a long support period. Reject a tier whose premium does not deliver one of those features.
- Shortlist one current model and one alternative. For example, compare an S26 with an S26 FE, or an A57 5G with a discounted prior S phone. This exposes whether the premium buys something you will notice.
- Check the exact regional model number. Confirm cellular bands, 5G support, eSIM, dual-SIM behavior, storage, processor variant where relevant and compatibility with your carrier.
- Read the product-specific support page. Record the stated Android-version and security-update terms for the exact country and model, rather than relying on a family-wide claim.
- Price the ownership risks. Check repair deductibles, accidental-damage and theft coverage, screen replacement terms, charger requirements and the return window.
- Recheck the deal on purchase day. Confirm that the listing matches the model number, storage, color, unlocked or carrier status, seller, warranty and return policy. Promotions and stock can change after launch.
Software support: why regional wording matters
Samsung’s U.S. S26 announcement says the S26 series receives seven years of security updates. A Samsung UK S-series buyer guide accessed during the same period states three years of Android updates and four years of security updates for the listed S generations. Those statements may describe different products, regions or terms; they should not be flattened into one universal policy.
Before buying, open Samsung’s support page for your country and exact model number. Look for the end dates or duration of both Android-version updates and security updates. Keep a copy of the terms with your receipt. A phone that costs less but leaves you with a short support period may be more expensive over its useful life than a model with a higher purchase price and longer coverage.
Ownership protection and service checks
Samsung’s UK newsroom says Samsung Care+ is available in 17 European markets and describes accidental-damage coverage, unlimited repairs, walk-in service, extended warranty and theft/loss protection. Availability, deductibles, covered incidents and eligibility vary by country and plan. Treat it as an ownership-cost option, not a universal benefit, and read the local terms before adding it to your budget.
For any model, especially a foldable, identify an authorized repair route near you, the expected turnaround, data-backup requirements and whether a screen or hinge repair has a separate fee. A low purchase price is less attractive if a common repair requires shipping the phone across the country or voids coverage under local conditions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you buy now or wait?
Do not delay a necessary purchase solely because Samsung’s quarterly operating result was negative. The evidence shows continued S26 and A-series sales, a 21.3% first-quarter 2026 global unit share and an active product strategy. It also shows component-cost pressure and uncertainty about future pricing.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing company earnings with handset quality: the KRW 0.7 trillion operating loss covers combined MX and Networks businesses and does not rate an individual phone.
- Treating launch price as today’s price: the S26-family figures are U.S. starting prices from February 2026, not October street prices or international prices.
- Buying the Ultra by default: its premium is rational only when Privacy Display, camera and zoom capability, storage or screen size has concrete value.
- Assuming an A-series phone always wins on value: an older discounted flagship may be preferable, but only after checking condition, battery, warranty and support.
- Ignoring regional variants: model numbers can differ in bands, eSIM, storage, processor, warranty and update terms.
- Using a carrier payment as the price: include the required plan, activation, trade-in conditions and remaining installments.
- Reading one review as a laboratory result: the S26 FE display and charging comments are attributed observations from one independent review, not a comprehensive test.

FAQ
Is Samsung failing as a smartphone company?
The available figures do not support that conclusion. Samsung reported a combined MX-and-Networks operating loss in Q2 2026, but also reported year-over-year revenue growth in that business, strong A-series momentum and a higher global smartphone unit share in 1Q 2026 than in the prior two reported periods. Profit pressure and a viable product business can exist at the same time.
Which Samsung phone should I buy if I do not want to spend $1,000?
Use the S26’s $899.99 U.S. launch starting price only as a historical reference, then check the current local price of the S26, S26 FE, A-series models and discounted older S phones. The right choice depends on your market, support term and must-have features; no universal under-$1,000 winner is established by the available evidence.
Does seven years of security support apply to every Samsung phone?
No universal claim is safe here. Samsung states seven years for the S26 series in its U.S. announcement, while a Samsung UK guide uses different wording for listed S generations. Read the product-specific support terms for your region and model.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Should I rush to buy before a shortage?
No. The alleged 20–30% supplier production reduction was reported by Money Today through Android Central and was not confirmed in Samsung’s official sources reviewed for this guide. Purchase because the phone and verified deal meet your needs, not because of an unconfirmed production rumor.
Is a foldable automatically better than an S26 or A-series phone?
No. Fold8 and Flip8 solve specific format problems: a larger opened workspace or a compact folded footprint. If you do not value that behavior, a conventional phone usually gives you a simpler comparison of price, support and repair exposure.
