Choose a NEAR wallet by starting with the trading route you plan to use: a NEAR-native dApp, a cross-chain swap, or perpetual trading. Then compare wallet connectivity, supported devices, custody and recovery, and transaction signing. There is no single best wallet for every route, and support can change, so confirm the wallet’s current compatibility with your intended assets and application before moving funds.
Start with the kind of trading you want to do
“Onchain trading” can mean different things. A wallet that connects to a NEAR dApp is not automatically suitable for every cross-chain swap or derivatives product. Decide which route you need before choosing a wallet.
- NEAR-native dApps: Look for a wallet that the specific application supports for connecting and signing transactions.
- Cross-chain swaps: Check both the wallet’s supported assets and the swap route. NEAR Intents describes itself as a liquidity protocol for cross-chain swaps, unified liquidity, and universal execution; that does not establish that every wallet supports every Intents route. See NEAR Intents.
- Perpetual contracts: Treat this as a separate product requirement. near.com’s perps service describes a dedicated account for trading perpetuals on Hyperliquid, with wallet or passkey sign-in. It is not a general feature of all NEAR wallets.
For any route, verify current wallet and application support for the exact asset, chain, and transaction you intend to use. A wallet listing or protocol description is not a guarantee that a particular combination works.
Compare wallet options by device and advertised use
The NEAR ecosystem’s wallet directory lists several options, including NEAR Mobile, Meteor, HOT, Intear, Nightly, Sweat, and Ethereum wallets. The descriptions below are those presented by the ecosystem directory, not independent feature or security tests. Check the listing and the wallet’s own current documentation before relying on a capability.

| Meteor Wallet | Described as offering zero-fee swaps and cross-chain bridging, with web, extension, and mobile availability. | Check which networks, assets, applications, and fee conditions apply to your intended transaction. |
| HOT, Intear, Nightly, Sweat, and Ethereum wallets | Listed in the NEAR ecosystem wallet directory; further comparable platform or trading details are not stated in the directory summary. | Confirm platform availability, custody and recovery setup, and support for your specific NEAR dApp or trade route. |
Review the current NEAR ecosystem wallet directory rather than assuming a listed wallet supports every use case. Features, integrations, and availability may change.
Account for the legacy wallet transition
The former wallet.near.org web wallet has transitioned into a gateway to the broader NEAR wallet ecosystem. The current page directs prior users to import their account into a new wallet; it says email or text-message recovery defaults to app.mynearwallet.com. Follow the current migration guidance on the official page instead of expecting the former interface to remain the destination.

The NEAR wallet repository describes the historical browser wallet implementation as storing account keys in localStorage and cautions against using it as the only signer for high-value accounts, recommending hardware for substantial balances. That warning is about the historical implementation; it is not a current security audit of wallets now listed by the ecosystem. See the NEAR wallet repository.
Choose a custody and signing setup you can manage
Wallet choice also determines how you control access and approve transactions. Before funding an account, understand the wallet’s custody model, account recovery process, and how it presents transaction details for signing. Keep recovery information private and make sure you can access it without relying on a single device or account.

For an offline-signing option, Ledger says its hardware wallets store private keys and sign transactions offline, and markets support for NEAR. This can add a separate signing device to a setup, but it does not remove risks from phishing, recovery mistakes, malicious transactions, or smart contracts. Ledger also notes that buy, send/receive, swap, stake, and other services are provided by third parties and may vary by territory. Confirm that the exact Ledger model works with the wallet and NEAR applications you plan to use before buying; the general support claim does not establish compatibility with every model or wallet. Details are on Ledger’s NEAR Protocol wallet page.

If you want perpetual contracts rather than spot swaps, evaluate the specific trading service independently of your general-purpose wallet. near.com describes a route that creates a dedicated Hyperliquid account, accepts wallet or passkey sign-in, and signs transactions on the user’s device for onchain settlement through NEAR Intents. Its description is specific to that service, not proof that any NEAR wallet offers perps. Check product availability and jurisdictional access at near.com before relying on the route.
