A passbook shows account entries; it does not by itself confirm the progress of a pending claim.
Check your EPF passbook online
- Open EPFO’s Member Passbook portal, titled “EPF Passbook & Claim Status.”
- Sign in with your UAN and password, then complete the captcha displayed on the page.
- View your passbook entries after signing in. Keep your login details private and use the official EPFO domain.
Check an EPFO claim’s status
EPFO’s help instructions describe a status lookup that asks you to select the EPFO office where the account is maintained and enter the PF account number. If your account has no extension, leave the extension field blank. EPFO’s employee-services directory also lists “Know Your Claim Status”.
Do not use a passbook balance as a substitute for the claim-status lookup: the passbook and claim tracking serve related but distinct purposes.
Use UMANG for EPFO services
EPFO’s information booklet lists “View Passbook” and claim tracking among the services available through UMANG. EPFO also says existing UANs can be activated or generated through UMANG. Use the official UMANG app and follow its current EPFO service options; interface labels may change. EPFO’s information booklet and member portal provide these details.

If your passbook is not available
EPFO says members of an exempted establishment may not see a passbook in the UAN portal. In that case, contact your establishment for a PF statement.
Protect your EPFO account and personal details
Use official EPFO websites or the official UMANG app. EPFO warns members not to share Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, OTPs, or account credentials with callers, and says it does not ask members to deposit money. Do not give your UAN or password to anyone offering to check or release a claim. EPFO’s Member Passbook page states: “Please never respond to any call for sharing any personal details like Aadhaar, PAN, Bank details, OTP or request for any payment.”

What to know about claim updates
EPFO’s reviewed service information does not establish a general claim-processing deadline or explain every status label that may appear in a live lookup. Do not treat an estimated timeline or an unfamiliar label as official guidance; check current EPFO information for your case.
