How to Check Your AppleCare Coverage and Buy AppleCare

Check your AppleCare status in device settings or Apple’s coverage checker, then review the plan, eligibility window, service fees, and purchase options before enrolling.

To check AppleCare on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, open Settings (or System Settings) > General > AppleCare & Warranty and select the device. If that option is missing, use Apple’s coverage checker with the device’s serial number. You can buy a plan only if Apple currently offers one for that device and region; enrollment windows and inspection requirements vary.

Check AppleCare on your device

Apple’s device settings show coverage and any available plan options for eligible devices associated with your Apple Account. Labels can vary by operating-system version, device, and region.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General, then AppleCare & Warranty.
  3. Select the device and review its coverage status, plan information, expiration or renewal details, and available service options.

Apple’s instructions for checking coverage and adding a plan are at AppleCare and warranty information.

Mac

  1. Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
  2. Select General, then AppleCare & Warranty.
  3. Select the Mac or other listed device to review its details.

The wording and location may differ on older macOS versions, so follow the labels shown on your Mac.

  • BEST VALUE: Protect all your eligible Amazon purchases including: tech, tools, appliances, furniture and more. All for one low monthly price.
  • PAST AND FUTURE PROTECTION: Covers malfunctions and failures, plus drops or spills for eligible portable items. Protection begins immediately for eligible purchases from the past 90 days, plus all eligible future purchases (products used commercially are excluded).
  • TRUSTED CYBERSECURITY: Digital security with scam detection for emails and texts.
  • EASY CLAIMS: File in minutes at www.asurion.com/amazon for fast repair or reimbursement - up to the purchase price.
  • NO HIDDEN FEES. CANCEL ANYTIME: Up to $5,000 in total claims per 12-month period. Your plan renews monthly until canceled (coupons applied at checkout don’t renew monthly).

Apple Watch, AirPods, and other devices

Apple Watch and other eligible products may appear in the AppleCare & Warranty area of a supported Apple device when associated with your account. If the product does not appear, check it by serial number instead. AppleCare One device-management features require iOS 18.5 or later, iPadOS 18.5 or later, macOS 15.5 or later, or visionOS 2.5 or later, depending on the device; those requirements apply to that management flow, not every way to check coverage. See AppleCare One eligibility and management.

Check coverage online with a serial number

Apple’s coverage checker is useful if you cannot access the device, it is not linked to your Apple Account, or you are checking a used product.

  1. Find the serial number. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > About. On Mac, use Apple menu > About This Mac or System Settings > General > About. For Apple Watch, check the paired iPhone’s Watch app or the watch’s Settings > General > About. For AirPods, open Bluetooth settings and tap the information button beside them; the serial number may also be on the case. The Apple serial-number guide covers more products.
  2. Enter the serial number at Apple’s coverage-check site and complete the CAPTCHA.
  3. Select Submit and review the coverage and available options.

Enter a serial number only on an Apple domain, and do not post it publicly. A coverage result is not a guarantee that a particular repair or claim will be approved; plan terms, exclusions, inspection, and service fees still apply.

  • Product Eligibility: Plan must be purchased with a product or within 30 days of the product purchase. Pre-existing conditions are not covered.
  • Terms & Details: More information about this protection plan is available within the “Product guides and documents” section. Simply click “User Guide” for more info. Understand what the coverage result means

“Warranty” and “AppleCare” are not interchangeable. The plan name and its terms determine what is covered.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Apple Limited Warranty: Apple’s manufacturer warranty covers qualifying defects under its terms. It is not general accidental-damage, loss, or theft protection. See the U.S. limited-warranty terms.
  • AppleCare+: Optional coverage that can extend service and provide accidental-damage coverage, subject to applicable fees, exclusions, claim limits, and plan terms. Battery service depends on the relevant terms and battery condition.
  • AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss: Adds theft-and-loss benefits for eligible iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch products. It is conditional coverage, not an automatic free replacement: claim requirements can include Find My, Lost Mode, and documentation requirements in the applicable U.S. plan disclosures.
  • AppleCare One: A subscription for multiple eligible Apple devices. A new plan starts with up to three devices; eligible additional devices can be added. Apple says iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch receive Theft and Loss coverage under the plan. Check Apple’s current plan details and eligibility rules.
  • Expired coverage: The device can still work normally, but service may be chargeable and the usual enrollment period may have closed. Apple may offer some customers new recurring coverage within 45 days after a plan expires; it is a conditional offer, not a guaranteed grace period. See Apple’s post-expiration guidance.

Check the plan agreement for contractual details such as exclusions, geographic limits, and claim requirements. Apple’s repair and service page can help identify service options.

Buy AppleCare through Apple

From Settings

  1. Open Settings or System Settings.
  2. Go to General > AppleCare & Warranty.
  3. Select the device, then choose an available plan.
  4. Review the price, coverage, term, renewal details, and service fees before paying.
  5. Complete Apple’s enrollment steps and save the confirmation and plan agreement.

An offer displayed for a device is a useful indication that a plan is available through that route. No offer can mean the deadline passed, the device is already covered or too old, the plan is unavailable in that region, or Apple requires an eligibility check or inspection.

Online

  1. Open Apple’s AppleCare page or the coverage checker.
  2. Sign in with your Apple Account or enter the device serial number.
  3. Select the device and review the plans Apple offers.
  4. Complete any required diagnostic or eligibility check, then use Apple’s checkout.
  5. Keep the confirmation email and agreement.

Available plans and checkout steps can differ by product, purchase route, and region.

At an Apple Store or through Apple Support

An in-person visit can help if the device needs inspection, the purchase date or serial-number record is wrong, or you want help comparing plans. Apple Support can also investigate account or purchase-record problems. Contact Apple through Apple Support. A store visit does not override eligibility, regional rules, inspection results, or plan terms.

How long do you have to buy AppleCare?

There is no single deadline for every Apple product. Apple’s current U.S. support material describes different windows, including 30-day and 60-day options for some products and purchase paths, and up to 12 months for applicable AppleCare Protection Plan products. AppleCare One is generally available with a new device or within 60 days of purchase where eligible. These are not interchangeable guarantees; use the live offer for your device and location.

Situation What to expect
New device or some AppleCare+ purchase paths Apple currently shows 30-day or 60-day options for some products and purchase arrangements; eligibility varies. Apple’s current guidance.
Applicable AppleCare Protection Plan Some products may have a purchase window of up to 12 months after purchase. Check the offer and terms for the product. Apple’s current guidance.
AppleCare One for a new device Apple generally describes starting with a new device or within 60 days of purchase for eligible devices. AppleCare One rules.
AppleCare plan has expired Some customers may be offered new recurring coverage within 45 days after expiration. This is conditional, not a guaranteed extension. Apple’s post-expiration guidance.

Apple may require a diagnostic, photos, or physical inspection. Do not rely on a general deadline if the offer shown for your device says otherwise.

Choose a plan based on the risk you want covered

Option May suit you if Check before choosing
AppleCare+ You want service and accidental-damage coverage for one eligible device. Plan price, service fees, exclusions, and whether the device is still eligible.
AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss You carry an eligible iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch often and want the additional benefit. Deductibles and claim conditions, including Find My and Lost Mode requirements.
AppleCare One You have several eligible devices and prefer managing them under one subscription. Current regional price, device eligibility, and what happens to any existing individual plan.
No additional plan You can absorb repair or replacement costs, or have relevant protection elsewhere. Compare actual accidental-damage and theft coverage, deductibles, claim limits, repair network, travel coverage, and cancellation terms in any other policy.

There is no universal “worth it” answer. Compare the plan cost plus likely service fee against the device’s repair or replacement cost, your exposure to damage or loss, and your ability to pay out of pocket. Credit-card benefits, homeowners or renters coverage, carrier plans, retailer plans, or setting money aside are comparison categories—not automatically equivalent substitutes.

Separate the plan price from repair fees

The enrollment price is what you pay to obtain coverage; it may be fixed-term or recurring. A service fee or deductible is a separate amount due for a covered service or claim. Taxes, payment schedule, device generation, region, and plan terms affect total cost. Use Apple’s live checkout for the plan price rather than relying on a price from another device or market.

For context, Apple’s current U.S. fee page lists examples such as $29 for iPhone screen or back-glass damage, $99 for other iPhone accidental damage, and $149 for iPhone theft or loss. Other listed U.S. examples include $69 for Apple Watch accidental damage, $79 for Apple Watch Ultra or Hermès accidental damage, $119 for Apple Watch theft or loss, $29 for screen damage on newer eligible iPads, and $129 for iPad theft or loss. Mac examples are $99 for screen or enclosure damage and $299 for other accidental damage; MacBook Neo examples are $49 and $149 respectively. These are service fees or deductibles, not plan prices, and may vary by plan and product. See Apple’s U.S. service-fee schedule and U.S. disclosures.

Troubleshoot missing coverage or a missing purchase offer

AppleCare & Warranty does not appear

  • Restart the device and install an available operating-system update.
  • Confirm you are signed in to the Apple Account associated with the product.
  • Check the serial number with Apple’s online coverage checker.
  • Compare the result with the original receipt; contact Apple if the purchase date or ownership record is wrong.

The coverage date looks wrong

Apple’s estimated purchase date can be inaccurate if a device came from a reseller, was gifted or imported, or sales data was incomplete. Keep the receipt and ask Apple to correct the date using its purchase-date correction process.

There is no AppleCare purchase option

  • Check whether the relevant enrollment window has passed or the product is too old.
  • See whether another plan already covers the device.
  • Confirm the device and Apple Account region and intended plan are supported.
  • Ask whether Apple requires a diagnostic check, photos, or inspection.
  • Resolve any active service, damage, Lost Mode, or account-association issue before assuming the device is permanently ineligible.

AppleCare One eligibility can also be affected by device age, a failed device check, purchase region, active service, Lost Mode, a different Apple Account, or existing AppleCare coverage. Damage that occurred before enrollment is not retroactively covered; Apple may require inspection before accepting a plan. See AppleCare One eligibility guidance.

What used-device buyers should verify

  1. Check the serial number directly with Apple to confirm the displayed coverage.
  2. Make sure the device is not Activation Locked and can be set up under your Apple Account.
  3. Ask for the original receipt when possible, especially if the displayed purchase date seems wrong.
  4. Ask whether the plan is transferable and whether it is tied to the seller’s Apple Account.

Apple says some plans may transfer to a new owner, but the process can require the agreement number, serial number, proof of coverage, receipt, and the new owner’s contact details. The original owner should contact Apple Support. Monthly or annual plans linked to an Apple Account generally cannot be transferred. See Apple’s plan-transfer instructions.

Changes, cancellations, and replacement devices

Before moving a device from individual AppleCare+ to AppleCare One, review the effective date and any refund information: adding a device already covered by AppleCare+ can cancel that prior plan. Removing a device from AppleCare One ends its coverage immediately; removing all devices does not necessarily end the subscription at once, which may remain active through the billing cycle. If Apple replaces a covered device, Apple says the plan transfers to the replacement where possible. Verify the replacement serial number and coverage afterward. See AppleCare enrollment information and AppleCare One management rules.
