Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo find out whether your laptop’s RAM or storage can be upgraded, identify the exact model and check its manufacturer specifications, parts lookup, and service manual. Verify memory and storage separately: a laptop may have replaceable storage but soldered RAM, or a mix of soldered memory and an available slot.
Start with the exact laptop model
A family name alone is not enough. Different generations and configurations within one product line can use different motherboards, memory layouts, or drives. Find the complete model identifier, including any generation, machine-type, product-number, or regional suffix, from the laptop’s label, system information, or the manufacturer’s support page.

Use that identifier when you open the manufacturer’s product specifications, parts lookup, user guide, and hardware maintenance or service manual. Lenovo’s guidance, last modified January 8, 2026, recommends checking its user guide and hardware maintenance manual, product specifications, and parts lookup for memory information: Lenovo’s RAM-upgrade guidance.
Check RAM upgradeability
Look for soldered memory and sockets
In the specifications, search for terms such as “onboard,” “soldered,” “memory,” “maximum supported RAM,” and “memory slots.” Onboard or soldered RAM is attached to the motherboard rather than installed as a replaceable module. Some laptops combine soldered memory with one socket, so a soldered-memory listing does not necessarily mean there is no upgrade option.
#1 Best Overall
- Boosts System Performance: 32GB DDR5 RAM laptop memory kit (2x16GB) that operates at 5600MHz, 5200MHz, or 4800MHz to improve multitasking and system responsiveness for smoother performance
- Accelerated gaming performance: Every millisecond gained in fast-paced gameplay counts—power through heavy workloads and benefit from versatile downclocking and higher frame rates
- Optimized DDR5 compatibility: Best for 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors — Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO also supported on the same RAM module
- Trusted Micron Quality: Backed by 42 years of memory expertise, this DDR5 RAM is rigorously tested at both component and module levels, ensuring top performance and reliability
- ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 262-Pin, PC Speed = PC5-44800, Voltage = 1.1V, Rank And Configuration = 1Rx8
Then search the service manual for instructions to remove or replace a memory module. A documented replacement procedure is useful evidence that at least one module can be changed. If no procedure appears, investigate further; the missing instructions alone do not prove that memory is soldered or impossible to upgrade.
Record the details that determine compatibility
Before choosing a module, confirm all of the following from model-specific manufacturer documentation or compatible-parts data:

- A-Tech 32GB RAM Kit (2 x 16GB Modules), DDR4 SO-DIMM 260-Pin, 2666MHz / 2667MHz PC4-21300 (PC4-2666V)
- Non-ECC Unbuffered, JEDEC DDR4 Standard 1.2V Operating Voltage
- Compatible with select DDR4 SODIMM capable Laptop, Notebook, Mini PC, and All-in-One (AIO) computer systems. Please verify your system's memory type, form factor, and maximum supported capacity before purchasing
- Not compatible with desktop (DIMM), DDR2, DDR3, DDR5, ECC Registered (RDIMM), ECC Load Reduced (LRDIMM), or ECC Unbuffered (ECC UDIMM) memory types
- Increases available memory capacity to enhance system responsiveness, application performance, and multitasking capabilities.
- Whether memory is soldered, socketed, or a combination.
- How many sockets are present and how many are occupied.
- The supported memory type and form factor.
- The maximum supported capacity for the exact model and configuration.
An operating system’s reported slot count is only a clue. It may not tell you whether memory is soldered alongside a socket, which module type is supported, or the laptop’s capacity limit. Lenovo also recommends checking specifications, manuals, and parts lookup rather than relying on slot count alone: Lenovo’s RAM-upgrade guidance.
Check storage separately
Look up the exact model’s storage specifications and search its manual and parts list for the drive, SSD, or storage-device replacement procedure. Confirm whether the installed drive is removable and whether the laptop has an additional bay or slot. If a drive can be replaced, verify its supported physical format, interface, and capacity against the manufacturer’s documentation. Do not assume that every M.2-shaped connector supports every kind of drive.

Lenovo’s parts documentation describes memory modules and storage drives as possible replaceable parts, but it does not establish the configuration of any particular laptop: Lenovo’s replaceable-parts information. The exact product specifications, parts lookup, and manual are what establish whether a specific model has a removable drive or another storage position.
Use the parts lookup before ordering
Search the manufacturer’s parts lookup using the model identifier and, where requested, the serial number, service tag, or machine type. Compare compatible-parts listings with the parts already installed: a listed option may be compatible without being included in your configuration. Match the candidate part’s specifications to the laptop’s documented memory or storage requirements, and keep the full model identifier with your selection.
Rank #4

- Specs – PCB Color (Green or Black) and Rank (1Rx8 or 2Rx8) may vary depending on production batch. Performance and quality remain consistent across all Timetec products.
- Compatibility – Designed for selected DDR4 Laptop, Notebook, Mini PCs, and All-In-One systems(AIO) that support 260-Pin SODIMM memory. NOT compatible with Desktop DIMM slots.
- Installation – Plug-and-Play Upgrade, Quick and Easy to Install, no expertise required (please refer to your system's manual for guidelines).
- Warranty – All Timetec products are high-quality and rigorously tested to meet stringent standards. Backed by Timetec Limited Lifetime Warranty and professional technical support based in the United States.
Manufacturer replacement information may distinguish self-service parts from optional-service parts. A component being replaceable does not automatically mean the work is simple: optional-service parts may require particular tools or technical skill. Read the exact removal procedure and safety instructions before opening the computer. Lenovo explains this distinction in its replaceable-parts guidance.

- Upgrade is supported: the exact model’s documentation identifies a compatible replaceable module or drive, and the parts lookup confirms the appropriate part.
- Upgrade is limited: some memory is soldered, but documentation confirms a separate socket or a replaceable drive.
- Still uncertain: the model identifier is incomplete, the specifications do not describe the configuration, or the parts listing does not confirm compatibility. Check the manufacturer’s model-specific support page rather than relying on a broad product-family name or a generic slot count.
An HP Support Community example for the HP ENVY x360 13-ay0045au illustrates how product specifications and a service manual can help determine whether memory is onboard; it applies to that model, not to HP laptops generally: HP’s model-specific discussion.
