To check a submitted appeal against a GST demand order, sign in to the GST Portal and go to Services > User Services > My Applications. Choose Appeal to Appellate Authority, enter a date range, and select Search. This lookup shows the appeal application and its status; it is not a confirmed standalone screen for checking the live status of the underlying demand.
Check the status of a submitted appeal
- Sign in to the GST Portal using the taxpayer’s authorized credentials.
- Open Services > User Services > My Applications.
- Set Application Type to Appeal to Appellate Authority.
- Enter the relevant dates in the From and To Date fields.
- Select Search, then open or review the matching application record and its displayed status.
The GST Portal FAQ describes this route for submitted appeals against demand orders. If the expected application does not appear, check the date range and confirm that the appeal was submitted under the taxpayer account you are using.

Understand which status you are looking at
An appeal’s progress is represented by its application status, not necessarily by a single overall demand-status label. The GST Portal FAQ lists statuses including:
- Appeal Submitted
- Appeal admitted
- Appeal Rejected
- Appeal Withdrawn
- Hearing Notice Issued
- Reply Submitted
- Adjournment Granted
- Show Cause Notice Issued
- Appeal Order Passed
- Rectification and remand-related statuses
Not every case passes through every listed stage. Some rectification labels in the FAQ also appear out of sequence, so rely on the wording displayed on your case rather than inferring a stage from an assumed order of events.

Check whether the appeal is formally filed
A submitted application is not, by itself, confirmation that the appeal is formally filed. The GST Portal FAQ, “Filing an Appeal against Demand Order (FORM GST APL-01),” says: “The appeal is considered filed only when the final acknowledgment (APL-02) with an appeal number is issued.” Look for that acknowledgment and appeal number when confirming filing.
The FAQ says the taxpayer and Appellate Authority receive an email after filing, and the taxpayer also receives an SMS. When the order is uploaded, the Appellate Authority issues the final APL-02 acknowledgment; the provisional acknowledgment date equals the filing date. If the order is not uploaded, the FAQ says a self-certified copy must be submitted within seven days of filing APL-01. If submitted later, the date of that submission is treated as the filing date.
Do not confuse an appeal record with demand status
The documented My Applications search is for the appeal application. The official materials cited here do not confirm a complete, current menu path for a separate live demand-status screen. Use the appeal search to check the appeal record, and do not assume its result is a definitive status for the underlying demand.

There is a specific manual-entry instruction in the SPL-02 workflow, but it is not a general demand-status lookup. In that workflow, a portal-issued demand order may be selectable from a list; if an offline or manual order is absent, choose Manual entry and enter its reference number. Details for online orders may populate automatically, while details for manual orders may need to be entered.
What an admitted appeal changes
The GST Portal FAQ states: “Yes, if Appeal filed is admitted, the GST Portal flags the balance disputed amount as non-recoverable.” The condition matters: the FAQ describes this flag after admission, not merely after an appeal is submitted.

- For an incorrect or unrecognized order number, check that you entered the number shown on the order received from the Assessment Officer.
- For certain manual demand orders, a system-generated demand order number may be needed to appeal. The GST Portal known-issues guide advises contacting the jurisdictional officer about the number process.
- To find jurisdictional contact details, the troubleshooting guide gives the path Services > User Services > Contacts.
The known-issues guidance and the SPL-02 manual-entry procedure address different tasks: the former discusses order-number issues for appeals, while the latter explains manual order details in that particular form.

Filing deadlines and requirements to verify
The GST Portal FAQ gives general filing guidance, but deadlines and pre-deposit rules are legally consequential and may depend on current law and the facts of a case. The FAQ states that an aggrieved taxpayer or unregistered person may appeal within three months from communication of the decision or order, and that the Appellate Authority may condone delay by up to one additional month where sufficient cause prevented timely filing. It also states that a minimum pre-deposit of 10% of disputed tax is required before filing, while noting that a lower percentage may be declared after approval from competent authorities. Verify the current legal position and the taxpayer’s circumstances before relying on these figures.
