How to Check GST Notices and Track Responses on the GST Portal

Use the GST Portal’s Additional Notices/Orders area to find a notice, then follow its specific response route and verify the filing in the case record.

To check notices issued against your GSTIN, sign in to the GST Portal and open Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. Open the relevant case and read the full notice or attachment: the right response route, due date and status depend on the proceeding. After submitting a reply, return to that case record and confirm that the filing appears there.

There is no single reply form, deadline or status label for every GST communication. A scrutiny notice, an audit communication, a recovery intimation, an appeal application and a summons may use different workflows. The safest approach is to identify the form and case first, follow the instructions in that specific communication, and verify the filing in the tracker used for that workflow.

Find the notice or order for your GSTIN

  1. Sign in to the GST Portal using the account associated with the relevant GSTIN. If you handle filings for more than one registration, make sure you are viewing the correct GSTIN and proceeding before acting.
  2. Open Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. Portal materials may label this area “Additional Notices and Orders” or “View Notices and Orders.” Menu wording can vary in portal guidance, so look for the corresponding notices-and-orders area if the wording on screen is not an exact match.
  3. Look for the relevant proceeding, then open its details and any attached notice, order or report. GSTN’s April–June 2024 functionality compilation places DRC-01 summaries and DRC-01D recovery intimations in this area. GSTN’s January–March 2021 compilation also describes audit notices and reports being made available there.
  4. Read the actual document, not only a summary or list entry. Note the form number, reference number, issue date, stated response due date, documents requested and any hearing information.

The portal area is a starting point, not a single universal notice-response screen. A summary entry may help identify a proceeding, but it does not establish that every case has the same details, reply button or next step. Open the case details and attachment so you can tell whether the entry is a notice, an order, a report or an intimation and what action it calls for.

If you are checking whether anything has been issued against your GSTIN, do not stop after seeing one item or one summary. Inspect the relevant case records available in the notices-and-orders area, and use the specific application route when the matter is an appeal or another application rather than a notice reply. The portal guidance describes several separate tracks; it does not identify one screen that tracks every notice, reply and application in the same way.

Identify the correct response route

Use the form and workflow named in the notice. A reply option may be available for one type of proceeding and absent for another. The examples below reflect the specific workflows described in GSTN materials; they should not be treated as interchangeable.

Notice or case type Response route or portal location What to know
Scrutiny notice in ASMT-10 ASMT-11 reply in the scrutiny workflow; the filed reply appears in the case’s Replies tab. The GST Portal tutorial manual dated 23 February 2021 documents this example. The due date is the one stated in the individual notice; the cited manual does not establish a general deadline.
DRC-01 Its electronic summary is available under Additional Notices and Orders. GSTN’s April–June 2024 functionality compilation describes availability of the summary. The summary alone does not show that every proceeding has identical details or response options.
DRC-01D recovery intimation View it under Additional Notices/Orders; the functionality note does not provide a portal reply action. GSTN’s April–June 2024 compilation says the specified amount is payable within seven days of issue. That is an instruction for this form, not a deadline for other GST notices.
Audit notice or report GSTN’s January–March 2021 functionality compilation describes accessing audit notices and reports under Additional Notices and Orders and replying with uploaded documents. Follow the instructions and due date in the particular audit communication.
Appeal application For submitted appeal cases, the GST Portal appeal FAQ directs users to Services > User Services > My Applications. This is an appeal-application tracking route, not a universal notice tracker. Appeal-stage status labels are specific to that workflow.
Notice to summon GSTN’s December 2022 functionality compilation describes a separate enforcement workflow for responding to a notice to summon and requesting an adjournment. Use the route and directions shown for that proceeding; the cited material does not make it a general notice-reply route.

These workflows are best compared on five questions: what type of case or form is involved; whether the portal offers a reply action; what due date applies to that case; where the submitted response will appear; and what status language that workflow uses. A “reply” in one proceeding and an appeal application are not necessarily filed or tracked in the same place.

For example, the ASMT-10 scrutiny workflow has a named ASMT-11 reply and a Replies tab for the filed record. The DRC-01D guidance instead describes a recovery intimation that can be viewed but does not accept a portal reply. In an audit workflow, GSTN’s earlier functionality guidance describes replying with uploaded documents. These differences are why the form number and the full text of the communication matter more than a generic assumption about what a GST portal notice should let you do.

Read the notice before preparing a reply

Before responding, match the notice to the case record and extract the details that determine what to file and when. A short summary can omit procedural instructions or supporting-document requests, so open the full attachment where available. Read the document from beginning to end and keep the attachment with your working copy of the response.

  • Form and proceeding: Identify the form number and what kind of matter it concerns. Do not assume that a similar-looking notice uses the same response workflow. The form can help distinguish a scrutiny notice, an audit communication, a recovery intimation, an appeal-related item or a summons route.
  • Reference and dates: Record the reference number, issue date and the response due date printed for that case. The issue date and due date serve different purposes; do not calculate a deadline from a generic online rule when the actual communication states a case-specific date.
  • Questions and documents: List each issue raised and each record or explanation requested. Prepare the reply against those specific points. Where the workflow allows document uploads, identify the requested supporting material and check that the files you intend to submit correspond to the points in the communication.
  • Hearing details: Check whether the communication gives a hearing date or other appearance instructions, and keep those separate from the filing deadline. A hearing detail is not a substitute for checking the reply due date.
  • Available action: Once the case is identified, determine whether the portal provides a reply action, document upload, payment instruction, application route or another next step. Do not treat a missing reply action as proof that the portal is malfunctioning until you have checked whether that particular communication accepts a portal reply.

Make a short case checklist before starting the portal filing: GSTIN and case reference; form number; issue and due dates; each question or issue raised; requested records; hearing details; and the action called for. This is a practical way to avoid mixing up multiple notices or carrying the response instructions from one case into another. Keep the checklist tied to the specific proceeding rather than using it as a substitute for the notice.

Submit a reply when the case workflow allows it

The exact screens and fields depend on the notice type. For example, the tutorial manual dated 23 February 2021 describes filing ASMT-11 in response to an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice. That example is not a set of instructions for other forms. The GSTN January–March 2021 functionality compilation describes audit responses that use uploaded documents, while the April–June 2024 guidance says that DRC-01D does not provide a reply action.

  1. Open the notice’s case record and use the response action that corresponds to the form and proceeding, if one is available. Confirm that the case reference and form match the communication you are answering.
  2. Complete the applicable reply form and attach the documents requested by that notice. For audit matters, GSTN’s January–March 2021 functionality compilation describes a reply process using uploaded documents. Use the actual case workflow and its listed instructions rather than assuming every reply is completed through the same form.
  3. Address the issues raised in the communication and check the response and attachments against the notice before filing. Make sure the documents relate to the case and that you have not omitted a requested record or explanation.
  4. Submit through the portal action provided for that workflow. Keep a copy of the response and the portal acknowledgement or submission details with the case documents. Retaining those details gives you a record of what was sent and when.
  5. After filing, return to the relevant case record and check the Replies tab or the workflow’s own application-status screen for the submitted entry. Confirm the entry is associated with the intended case, not merely that you reached a final-looking screen during filing.

Do not look for a reply button as the default next step for every communication. GSTN’s April–June 2024 functionality compilation says of DRC-01D: “The taxpayers are not allowed to submit a reply as it is an intimation for initiating recovery proceedings.” For that form, follow the payment instruction in the intimation rather than treating the lack of a reply action as a portal fault. GSTN’s functionality note says the specified amount is payable within seven days of issue; this is specific to DRC-01D and should not be carried over to other notices.

If you cannot tell whether an action is a reply, an application or a payment step, compare it with the type of communication and directions in the document. The portal’s existence of an electronic summary does not, by itself, establish that the summary is the full notice or that a reply can be filed there. For DRC-01, the cited GSTN material confirms availability of an electronic summary under Additional Notices and Orders, but it does not establish that all DRC-01 proceedings share identical response options.

Check whether your reply was submitted

Verify the response in the record for the same proceeding, rather than relying only on having completed an on-screen filing action. In the ASMT-11 example, the GST Portal manual says the filed reply appears in the case’s Replies tab. It gives the example status “Reply furnished, pending for order by tax officer.” That label describes the cited scrutiny workflow; it is not a status guaranteed for all GST replies.

For other applications, use their own tracking pages. The GST Portal appeal FAQ directs users to Services > User Services > My Applications for submitted appeal cases and lists appeal-stage statuses. Those labels should not be read as a universal vocabulary for notices or replies. A status tells you where a case sits in a particular workflow; it does not automatically mean that another form or proceeding has the same next step.

  • Confirm that the relevant case record shows the reply or submitted application.
  • Check the displayed status in the context of that particular workflow; a filed reply may still be awaiting an officer’s order or another step.
  • Retain the filed response, acknowledgement or submission details, and supporting documents together so you can establish what was sent and when.
  • When tracking an appeal, use My Applications as directed in the appeal FAQ instead of assuming that an appeal-stage status will appear in a notice’s Replies tab.

Use a simple verification sequence after filing: reopen the same proceeding, locate the submitted-reply record, check the displayed status, and save the acknowledgement or submission details alongside the response copy. If the status indicates that the reply is pending for an order, that is a post-submission case status in the ASMT-11 example—not evidence that the reply was never filed. Conversely, do not infer successful submission solely from having prepared a response or uploaded documents; check the record for the filed entry.

How to handle due dates and unclear instructions

Use the due date shown on the specific notice and the applicable procedure for that proceeding. GST notices do not share one reply deadline: do not assume that 7, 15 or 30 days applies across forms. The seven-day instruction in GSTN’s April–June 2024 compilation is specifically for the amount stated in a DRC-01D recovery intimation. It is not a general response deadline and should not be applied to an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice, an audit communication, an appeal or a summons.

When reading a notice, distinguish its issue date, reply due date, hearing date and any payment instruction. Each may call for a different action. Record the dates as printed and make the response plan from the individual communication, rather than counting from an assumed standard period. The cited portal materials do not establish a single deadline that applies to every GST notice.

If the date is unclear, the communication appears incomplete, or the deadline is near, seek qualified tax advice promptly. Do not let uncertainty about a portal status or missing reply button cause you to overlook a date or instruction in the underlying notice. Case-specific interpretation may require a tax professional, particularly where the communication’s form, procedure or requested action is unclear.

If you cannot find a reply action or status

  • Recheck the form and case: Make sure you opened the correct proceeding and its full attachment, not only a summary. Confirm the reference and form number against the document you are answering.
  • Distinguish viewing from replying: Some communications are available to view without offering a reply action. DRC-01D is one such example in GSTN’s functionality guidance. The absence of a reply button for that intimation is consistent with the stated workflow.
  • Use the workflow-specific tracker: A notice response may appear within its case record, while an appeal is tracked through My Applications. One screen should not be presumed to cover every case type.
  • Check the requested next step: The document may call for a reply, uploaded records, payment, an application or a hearing-related action. Follow the instruction for that proceeding rather than trying to force it into a generic reply process.
  • Preserve filing evidence: If you submitted a response, keep its acknowledgement and submission details and check the relevant record again to verify the entry.
  • Act on the notice’s instructions: If the portal route remains unclear, take advice based on the form, proceeding and dates in the actual communication rather than relying on a generic deadline or status label.

Also distinguish an online notice-and-orders listing from an application tracker. GSTN materials place certain notices, summaries, recovery intimations, audit notices and reports in Additional Notices and Orders. The appeal FAQ uses My Applications for submitted appeal cases. These are useful examples of the portal’s separate workflows, not evidence that one route replaces the other.

How do I check GST notices on the GST portal?

Sign in and go to Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders. Find the relevant case and open its details and attachment. Where can I see notices and orders issued against my GSTIN?

The Additional Notices/Orders area is a primary place to look. GSTN functionality guidance describes DRC-01 summaries and DRC-01D recovery intimations there, and earlier GSTN guidance describes audit notices and reports in that area. The exact item and next action depend on the proceeding.

How do I check whether my GST notice reply was submitted?

Reopen the case record for the same proceeding and check its submitted-reply record. In the ASMT-11 scrutiny example, the filed reply appears in the Replies tab. Keep the acknowledgement or submission details with your copy of the reply so you can verify what was filed and when.

Use the tracker for the workflow involved. Status labels differ by workflow, so there is no single status list that covers every GST notice and application.

What is the reply deadline for a GST notice?

Check the date stated in the individual notice and the procedure applicable to that case. The portal materials cited here do not establish one universal GST notice reply deadline. GSTN’s seven-day instruction applies specifically to the amount in a DRC-01D recovery intimation, not to all notices.

Can I reply to a DRC-01D recovery intimation on the portal?

GSTN’s April–June 2024 functionality compilation says taxpayers are not allowed to submit a reply because DRC-01D is an intimation for initiating recovery proceedings. It states that the specified amount is payable within seven days of issue. Follow the instruction in the intimation; do not treat the missing reply action as a portal problem or generalize its seven-day period to another notice.

Is DRC-01 itself the full notice?

The cited GSTN guidance describes the electronic availability of a DRC-01 summary under Additional Notices and Orders. Open the relevant case details and documents to read the actual communication and determine the response route. The existence of a summary does not establish that all case details or reply options are identical.

Are ASMT-11, audit replies and appeal tracking the same process?

No. The ASMT-11 example concerns a reply to an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice and shows the filed reply in the Replies tab. GSTN’s earlier audit functionality guidance describes replies with uploaded documents. Appeal cases are tracked through My Applications according to the appeal FAQ. Use the form and instructions for the specific proceeding.

The Bottom Line

Use Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders to locate a notice or order, then open the full case document and identify its form, due date and required action. Reply only through the workflow for that proceeding, and verify the filed response in the relevant case record or application tracker. Deadlines and status labels are case-specific; the seven-day instruction applies to DRC-01D, not to GST notices generally.
