They are different share classes on different exchanges, not alternate formats for the same listing. CCB also reports a separate domestic preference share, code 360030. Before investing, confirm the share class, exchange and order currency in your broker’s order preview.
Which CCB share codes refer to ordinary shares?
China Construction Bank’s investor-relations FAQ identifies its Hong Kong H-shares by ticker 939 and its Shanghai A-shares by ticker 601939. Some issuer materials format the Hong Kong code as 00939. CCB’s FAQ states: “H-shares of CCB are traded on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited under the ticker symbol “939”. A-shares are traded on Shanghai Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “601939”.” (China Construction Bank investor-relations FAQ)
CCB’s 2025 half-year report separately identifies a domestic preference share listed in Shanghai under code 360030. It is not another code for the ordinary A-share. Check the instrument type as well as the company name and ticker. (CCB 2025 half-year report)
How do the Shanghai and Hong Kong lines differ?
| Instrument | Exchange | Code | Usual trading currency | CCB-published board lot |

For market-level currency context, HKEX investor guidance describes SSE securities as traded and settled in RMB in the Stock Connect context and SEHK securities as quoted in HKD in the stated mainland-investor context. Your broker’s order ticket and the route used for your account determine the currency and settlement details you actually see. (HKEX Stock Connect investor FAQ)
How to verify the right instrument before placing an order
- Search the instrument directory. Look up China Construction Bank Corporation, then identify whether the result is the Shanghai A-share, 601939, or the Hong Kong H-share, 939/00939.
- Confirm the exchange and share class. Read the full instrument label in the security details or order preview. Do not rely on the company name alone, especially because CCB also reports preference share 360030.
- Check the order currency. Confirm whether the ticket shows RMB or HKD, and whether you need to convert funds. Ask the broker how funding, conversion charges and settlement work for your account and route.
- Review order size and costs. CCB lists board lots of 100 A-shares and 1,000 H-shares. Check your broker’s order options, fees and any other applicable charges before submitting.
- Check access and eligibility. Availability depends on the broker, account, investor location, share class and trading route. The listing information alone does not establish that a particular investor can trade either line.
Does the dividend currency tell you the trading currency?
No. A dividend payment option is separate from the currency in which a share is traded. CCB’s 2025 annual report says H-shareholders were offered the option to receive the 2025 interim dividend in RMB for the first time. That is a dividend-payment choice, not a change to the H-share’s listing or usual trading currency. (CCB 2025 annual report)

What to compare if your broker offers both ordinary lines
Checking the identifiers tells you which security you are ordering; it does not determine which one is suitable. If both lines are available to you, compare the details that apply to your account:
