How to Change Your UPI PIN, Linked Bank Account, and Daily Payment Limits

Change a known UPI PIN in Google Pay settings, reset a forgotten PIN with bank verification, and check your bank’s current payment limits before assuming a declined transaction can be fixed in the app.

You can change a UPI PIN you know in your payment app’s settings for the relevant bank account. If you’ve forgotten it, use the app’s reset flow and complete the verification your bank requires. Changing the account linked to an app is a separate process, and your daily payment ceiling is generally governed by your bank and the type of transaction—not a single limit you can freely edit.

The steps below cover Google Pay, with a separate PhonePe account-linking note. Other apps and banks may use different menus or verification rules.

How do I change my UPI PIN?

In Google Pay, changing a known PIN requires you to enter the current PIN first. The PIN is associated with the bank account, and Google Pay says an existing PIN for that account can be used in the app. Its help page describes UPI PINs as 4 or 6 digits.

  1. Open Google Pay and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Bank account, then select the account whose PIN you want to change.
  3. Tap More > Change UPI PIN.
  4. Enter the current PIN, enter the new PIN, enter it again to confirm, and finish.

These are Google Pay’s published steps; menu names and flows can differ in other UPI apps. Google Pay Help: Reset or change UPI PIN; Google Pay Help: Set up a UPI PIN.

How do I reset my UPI PIN if I forgot it?

Use the reset option for the specific bank account rather than the change option. In Google Pay, go to Profile picture > Bank account > [account] > Forgot UPI PIN, then follow the app’s verification prompts. Google Pay says a reset requires debit-card or Aadhaar details. Aadhaar verification is available only if the bank supports it; do not assume every account can use that method.

For debit-card verification, use details from the card linked to that bank account. If the app or bank cannot verify you, check the on-screen instructions or contact the bank; a reset cannot be completed without the required verification. Follow the exact prompt shown in your app, since restrictions may depend on the app or bank. Google Pay Help: Reset or change UPI PIN.

How do I change the bank account linked to Google Pay?

Google Pay’s instructions are to remove the bank account and add it again. Before removing it, unlink any active autopay or UPI Lite associations attached to that account.

  1. Open Google Pay and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Bank account, then select the account you want to replace or relink.
  3. Tap More > Remove account.
  4. To link an account again, choose Add bank account, select a supported bank and account, and complete the verification option offered.

Account discovery and verification depend on your bank and registered phone number. The account should be associated with the number used in the app, and the registered SIM must be able to send outgoing SMS. Google Pay documents debit-card verification and Aadhaar verification only where the bank supports it; Aadhaar must be linked to the same registered mobile number.

PhonePe has its own account-linking flow: its published instructions use bank selection, card details, and an OTP sent to the registered number. That is a PhonePe-specific process, not a universal UPI procedure. Google Pay Help: Add or remove a bank account; PhonePe Help.

What is my UPI daily limit?

There is no single daily ceiling that applies to every bank, user, and payment type, and you should not assume you can raise it in the app. Google Pay’s help page, accessed October 4, 2026, lists these standard peer-to-peer (P2P) limits:

  • Up to ₹1 lakh from one bank account in the last 24 hours.
  • Up to 20 successful P2P payments in the last 24 hours.
  • Up to 150 successful P2P payments in the last 30 days.

Google Pay says banks set the amount limits across UPI apps, and a bank can set a lower ceiling. Its guidance also allows higher caps for specified verified merchant categories, so the standard P2P figures are not a guarantee for every transaction. Limits can change; confirm the current rules with your bank and in the app. Google Pay Help: Standard UPI transaction limits.

Google Pay’s issuing-bank table, also accessed October 4, 2026, displays the following examples. These are provider-published figures, not a promise that your account will have those limits; check your bank for the current account-specific ceiling.

Bank shown in Google Pay’s table Displayed transaction limit Displayed daily limit
State Bank of India ₹100,000 ₹100,000
India Post Payment Bank ₹25,000 ₹50,000

Google Pay Help: UPI issuing bank wise limits.

Why might a UPI payment be declined?

Use the app’s displayed reason as a starting point. Then check the factors that can affect whether a payment goes through:

  • Your bank’s amount limit and account status.
  • Your successful transaction count over the relevant time period.
  • Whether the payment is P2P or to an eligible verified merchant, since limits may differ.
  • Whether you have entered the correct PIN and triggered a temporary restriction after repeated wrong attempts.

A different linked account may have a different bank limit, but switching accounts is not guaranteed to resolve a decline. For an account-specific limit or restriction, contact your bank.
