You can request changes to a direct Steam Packet booking through the registered online account, or contact Reservations; if an agent or ticket aggregator made the booking, ask that company to make the change. To cancel, notify Steam Packet Reservations in writing as soon as possible and include the unused ticket or web confirmation. The fare you bought, how you booked, how close departure is and whether the booking is for the TT period determine what fees or refund rules apply.
How to change a Steam Packet booking
- Check how you booked. For a booking made directly online, sign in to the registered account and use the booking tools to request an amendment. You can also call Reservations for assistance. If an agent or aggregator booked the trip, contact it: Steam Packet says it will amend an agent booking only on the agent’s instruction. The agent may add its own fee. See the booking FAQ.
- Check the fare conditions. Your ticket’s fare type determines whether an amendment is permitted and what it costs. Special Offer conditions can add restrictions or rule out changes altogether.
- Confirm the new sailing and any amount due before proceeding. A fare increase may apply when the replacement sailing costs more; a change fee may also apply for a Special Offer booking.
Change fees by fare or request
| Booking or change | What the operator says |
|---|---|
| Standard Flexi fare | The FAQ says there is no amendment fee. You may need to pay a fare difference if the new sailing costs more. |
| Special Offer fare | Changes depend on availability and the offer’s rules. The FAQ lists an amendment fee of £5/€6 per person for registered users online, or £10/€12 per person offline, plus any fare increase. The current visitor terms list £5/€7 online and £10/€14 offline instead. Because the official pages conflict on the euro amounts, check the conditions attached to your booking or confirm the applicable fee with Reservations before changing it. No refund or credit is given for the amendment. |
| Vehicle registration only | The FAQ says there is no charge if the replacement vehicle remains within the dimensions originally booked. If it is larger, a fare difference applies. |
Check the FAQ and visitor booking terms against your booking; the offer-specific conditions may differ.
How to cancel and request a refund
If you cannot travel, tell the Reservations Office in writing as soon as possible and include your unused ticket or web confirmation. The visitor booking terms list the following voluntary-cancellation charges. The charge is a percentage subject to the stated minimum.
Ordinary bookings
| Notice before departure | Cancellation charge | Minimum charge |
|---|---|---|
| More than 20 days | 10% | £10 / €14 |
| More than 10 days | 20% | £20 / €25 |
| Less than 10 days | 30% | £30 / €38 |
Bookings in the TT period
The terms define the TT period as Wednesday before Practice Week through Wednesday after Senior Race Day. They publish a separate schedule:

What the fare type means for a refund
- Flexi: The FAQ describes Flexi fares as refundable subject to cancellation fees. Send the refund application to Reservations; a full refund is not guaranteed.
- Special Offer: The terms say unused portions are non-refundable and non-transferable. Some offers may allow amendments under their specific conditions, but that does not make the unused portion refundable.
The terms say refunds are at the company’s discretion except where passenger-rights provisions apply. These cancellation charges concern a passenger choosing not to travel; they do not determine your rights if Steam Packet cancels a sailing. In its Conditions of Carriage, clause 42, the company states: “The Company will only allow cancellation or amendment of bookings upon payment of such charge as may from time to time be set out in the Company’s notices and publications.”

This guidance and the cancellation schedules above cover a passenger cancelling their own booking. If Steam Packet cancels the sailing, different passenger-rights rules and re-routing or refund provisions may apply; do not use the voluntary-cancellation schedule to calculate what you are owed. The operator’s booking terms set out the relevant conditions.
